Tray 9, IPR and some good news!

I feel like I’ve had an eventful couple of days with many steps forward.

First of all I had my first session of IPR to make some space in my crowded mouth and WHAT A RELIEF. I was rather anxious about this but it was absolutely fine! Here are a few short points on my experience:

• No pain but very mild sensitivity on 2 teeth lasting 0.00001 second
• 5 teeth took about 15 mins
• Used mix of electric and hand files
• Gaps are not big at all and no one else would notice if trays were off
• The teeth were filed with straight and natural edges, no sharp edges

All in all a good experience for what it was and ill happily go back for my other 2 sessions without the worry ?

Now…before my treatment started I was told it was going to take 18 months by the Treatment Coordinator. When I got my trays I could see they were a set of 18 and that didn’t make sense to me so I questioned it last time I went to the Orthodontist and the Treatment Coordinator confirmed that it was indeed an 18 month treatment plan with the last 6 months focussing on reducing my overbite.

I asked AGAIN this time I went but instead I asked my actual Orthodontist who told me that the Treatment Coordinator was in fact WRONG and that my course was 36 weeks, 9 MONTHS….which makes total sense give the number of trays and how far I’m progressing so needless to say I was over the moon…and officially HALF WAY THROUGH!!!!

Now….tray 9…..OUCH. For the very first time this tray is comparable to the dreadful tray 1! Have not been able to eat so far today as I cannot touch them to remove them, and my jaw is hanging down in pain….with some occasional drool…BUT….im halfway through….IPR done….and in my eyes…..pain means MOVEMENT!! :D

Stick with it guys……seems there is suddenly a corner you turn and it all becomes worth it!

Ill post IPR pics tomorrow when I home but for now here is a before and halfway through comparison....and yes....i know im not great at making these types of pics but you get the jist :P

Tray 8 – 1st regualr dentist check-up

he move to tray 8 was smooth and easy, so far I’m yet to experience a tray anywhere near the pain and discomfort I got from tray 1, thankfully!!

I had my first regular dentist check-up last week since starting Invisalign and although she said my teeth were doing great, clean and well maintained there was decay on my wisdom tooth which would require a filling. I was SOOOO disappointed, after brushing and flossing 5-6 times a day religiously how could this have happened!?!

She looked at my x-ray from before the Invisalign treatment and nothing was showing 4 months back to that tooth then she asked to look at my trays, she could see that on my left lower side the tray did not cover all of the wisdom tooth in question and she said that’s the reason why, its more exposed than any of my other teeth and given the style of treatment, there isn’t much else I can do to avoid it other than continue the hard work I’m already doing.

I will be having the filling on Thursday 24th April 2015 then back at my Orthodontist the following Monday for my 1st of 3 sessions of IPR tooth reduction to make more room in my crowded little mouth.

So far I can definitely see larger gaps appearing between my teeth although the pictures don’t show them up as well as they are in person but really, that’s all I can notice still. Tray 8 and 16 weeks treatment and nothing much has changed with the alignment of my teeth other than the gaps…I REALLY hope I start to see more of a difference in movements after the 1st IPR session!!

Will update on my IPR experience and moving to tray 9 next week….wish me luck!! ?
