46 Yo Female, Developing Jowels and Turkey Neck - Raleigh, NC

I turned 46 not too long ago, and for the last several months started noticing the beginnings of jowels. Recent photos show bulging under my chin, so much so that I felt I looked years older. I'm very active with young children and not ready to submit! So, I first looked into a neck lift. Doc said no way but did suggest Ultherapy. I had heard some negative things about it, but he assured me it was safe, and he had had it done himself, which made me feel more confident. So, I decided to give it a try. It's been about three days so I'm still pretty swollen but this seems to be normal. It did hurt though! Doc prescribed Xanax and Tylenol/codeine but I had to do breathing and other exercises to get through it. I had this wierd reaction to the pain where my teeth started chattering. Finally, we developed a rhythm and I'd do a butt lift with each zap - it helped, and I got a good butt workout! LOL The nurse at Skin Raleigh, Mary, who did the procedure was great and we even had a good laugh. Will update as I progress.

I am curious to hear about your progress, I am contemplating this on my neck, but I have been hesitant because of the mixed reviews. Looking forward to your next post! Did you have it just done on your neck or your face and neck?
August 23, 2015
Hi. I had it done on my lower face, along the jawline, and neck. The rationale for including lower face is that as that area tightens, it will help pull up the jowels, which makes sense to me!

But will it destroy the fat underneath. I'm thinking of having it done but an thin and if the Ulthera destroy the fat I'll look gaunt.

I go to a clinic with a reputable nurse and she told me they have "different" filters not sure if that is the correct terminology but depending on your face depends on the type they use. A 50 something office worker there has had it done twice and so has the plastic surgeons' wife...both look amazing and do not look gaunt to me. Bottom line is get referrals and try to go somewhere that has experience administering it has always been my opinion.

I really don't understand why anyone would have Ultherapy after reading the tons of negative comments about it on this site. I mean TONS. I sincerely hope it works out for you but a neck lift certainly would have been the way to go (in a few years). I speak from experience on that.

Because most don't appear to be credible. Thats why. Gullible people will believe anything.

I think there is some strange conspirancy against Ultherpy and it's providers. I have had Ultherapy twice at six month intervals. I am a man at 52 and the results have been spectacular, no fat loss, no drooping, changing eye color or other BS. I went to Dr. Matthew White in NYC, where I live. I paid $5,000 for full face and neck each time. Yes, it's a lot of money, but that's what it costs in NYC to get someone with his reputation, and I wouldnt risk it with someone without a very high level of experience. I am not saying he is the only one qualified but he was written up in Vogue and featured in many on air newscasts explaining the process. He has never had a single lawsuit or complaint other than the high cost. I have seen many, many, many pictures of his patients before and afters and there were not signs of any of the problems that are mentioned here. I think there is some hidden agenda here or ppl are not going to the right doctors but he is a TOP plastic surgeon with incredible reviews, he was part of the development and I asked him about these questions and he said it is simply not the case that there is any fat loss. It does not heat the fat layer it goes above and below it. I dont have before and afters b/c I know the results and didnt obsess over them, but I may get them just to stem this tide of ridiculousness.

He would never risk his reputation or spend years upon years of research on something that would cause the kind of disfigurement that is alleged here. Nor would he risk lawsuits or loosing his license for lying or unethical practices. He has a very healthy client base for actual plastic surgery. I just caution ppl to read all these negative reviews - it's very suspect in my opinion.

Thanks for providing a positive perspective. I've had a similar reaction to some of the negative comments. It's one thing to be dissatisfied with how a procedure worked out for you, or with a provider, but it's quite another to insult someone for making a decision that came after significant research and discussion with a reputable doctor.
August 24, 2015
Absolutely agree with you, I wrote to you because I hate this fear mongering and I dont want you to obsess and worry and I dont like someone atacking your personal decision. What gives them the right to question or attack you, and cause you needless anxiety. All these procedures already cause enough anxiety. Remember this is the internet. If you are worried talk to Matthew White he is a very nice man and I am sure will talk to you. If this would be of comfort to you you can let me know I can you pm you with my email so he can speak with you, you can say I told you to call or email. I have nothing to gain or any affliation with him in any way, I just dont like people to create uneccessary anxiety or attack people, its not right. Do your research and check him out on youtube or other providers. I think you will feel more at ease. God Bless and all the best to you.

I do have a thin face, and my doc explained to my satisfaction why the procedure wouldn't melt my facial fat. Time will tell for me to find out how this works for me, but I agree that it would never be in a reputable doctor's best interest to push a treatment that has such ill and unintended effects.

Oh one quick thing. My friend took this supplement Health Logics BioCell Collagen Joint and Skin Care 120 Capsules
Sold by: Health Logics (cut and paste from amazon) and swears it has helped alot in rebuilding collagen. It is not a perfect science but there are many positive reviews on amazon and I was told unofficially by my dr that it may help but he cant officially make a recommendation. He also really loves Skin Medica TNS recovery serum. Lots of science behind this and both have worked amazing for me. The dr cant believe the results. Skin Medica is $270 a month but you can find it on ebay for half the price. It was also featured on the Doctors on TV and they endorsed it. If your budget allow you may want to give them a whirl. People, honestly, believe I am early 30's...strangers, so I am willing to get spending, to me its worth it, b/c I work in a business which is very aegist unfortunately. Wish it wasnt the case but it is, so for me it is money will spent.

I take the supplements and use the serum. I dont smoke or drink and eat very healthy and drink 8 glasses of water every day along with various supplements.
August 24, 2015
And I am not thin or fat. I was a model for many many years so I know my face very well. No fat loss of any sort.

If you still have swelling, read about manual lymph drainage removing swelling fast. I've worked on lots of people after surgery and seen the results. Www.vodderschool.com and click on "find a therapist".

The jawline is definitely more defined. It will probably continue to improve as collagen builds. Looking good.

Crazy how fast it can work!
