PRP with Dr. Wise

After researching PRP for hair loss on and off for 1.5 years, I decided it was time for me to give it a try. I have androgenic alopexia. And I tried all the noninvasive options into the past - minoxidil, vivascal, spironolactone, massage, biotin, iron infusions (my iron was low for a short while)...but the shedding continued. I had the most luck with minoxidil- but no matter how carefully I placed it on my head, my hairline dropped to warewolf lows on my forehead and my sideburns came in HEAVY like mutton chops. I stopped using it and my hair fell out quite terribly for 4-6 months. Anyway, I went to Dr. Wise for the PRP consult and procedure- he is a total doll by the way! Very funny and patient with questions and the interview process...The staff was professional and kind as well. My procedure was last Friday. I received a call today from the office staff asking me how I was doing 3 days later, which was nice. My scalp is still tender, but I’m otherwise ok. I washed my hair today and had the same amount of shedding as I did before, but I’m sure this will take time to have it’s effect. I have another appointment in 5 weeks, so I will update then with any progress ??

Hi, I am also thinking of pursuing this procedure with Dr. Wise. Would you be willing to speak with me through email? I would like to understand if you have noticed any hair growth till now? I have almost the same hair loss like yours, frontal scalp and sides. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Update!

EmmeEmme
Hello all. Second treatment was received June 27, 2018. I’ve included pics from right before and pics after 1 month. I *thought* I saw improvement this time (around the hairline). I was excited because I saw no improvement after the first treatment, but my hair is shedding again and I believe any improvement has been lost. I have one more treatment this month and I’m trying to remain optimistic that this will help.

Before and after 3rd (final) treatment.

The third treatment took place August 15th. I’ve included before pics of my hair the day of. As I mentioned in my previous post any gains made with the second treatment was lost (see photos). This third treatment didn’t go as smoothly as the other two. My head wasn’t numb enough and the injections of the PRP hurt. Dr. Wise gives laughing gas during the procedure so that helped take the edge off of the pain, but ultimately the depth on the microneedling (not sure if that’s what it is called) device had to be reduced and certain areas of my head couldn’t be rolled at all bc of the pain. Dr. Wise was very apologetic about my pain and explained anymore lidocaine and my head would become very swollen. I am unsure if this affected my results at all, or the treatment just didn’t work. I am very disappointed and have a follow up scheduled to see where I am at. After viewing my before photos and my photos taken last night, my hair loss looks slightly worse. Photos from today will be attached. It’s been about 2 months since my last treatment of the series. If you opt for this procedure, I truly hope it works for you.

Thanks for the update, I think you're hair looks indeed worse than before treatment, I had 2 prp sessions 5 weeks apart in my hairline is also getting thinner, I think there is something wrong with this treatment lot off people complain about this, and I think its has something to do with the testosteron or DHT in the prp, I hope you hairs get better for you

Hi EmmeEmme, I am unsure who you are specifically since you are using an alias, but I understand you are a patient of ours and I want to respond to your concerns. Patients can expect to see results from PRP treatments around 6 months after the first treatment. It is not surprising that you have not seen a difference in your hair or any positive result so far. Increased shedding during the treatments is also possible as the PRP treatments can speed up the hair growth cycle. Any hair follicles that were going to fall out, may shed faster with the PRP treatments. Those hairs should be growing back. We look forward to seeing you at your 6 month follow-up appointment and taking your progress photos in our photo studio. Please call us if you still have concerns or any questions at all, we are always happy to help you. Our office line is 973-305-1400.

Hello Dr. Wise. Thanks for the reply. I used an alias because I am embarrassed about my hair loss. Lol. The first treatment was the beginning of May 2018, so I expected to see some improvement by now. I’ve had the follow up in your office and you offered a series of steroid injections to help me:) I greatly appreciate the help and I am looking forward to at least getting the shedding under control since I don’t seem to be responding to the treatment.

Thank you SO much for posting. I live in Montclair and I was going to call Dr. Wise to tomorrow or the following day. I just happened on your review-so strange. I just made a general search on google & up you popped in NJ and Dr Wise! I've been trying to get up the courage to call him for a year. In the last two weeks, I've lost so much hair on my right side I don't know what to do. It's also really bad in the back. ALL my life I had almost TOO much hair. Very think and wavy. I thought I'd have it always-like my father. I took a selfie on Thanksgiving (I'm 54 and I've done it about 3 times- lol) and I saw how bad my hair looked. I was shocked, it was FAR worse than I thought. The camera is very straight forward! I've been loosing it steadily for two years now-a combo of stress from divorce, menopause and medication.I understand the longer I wait the less my chances are at success. I'm beating myself up that I didn't go last year. EVERYONE including my doctor said, "It's from stress it will go away" but I knew in my gut it wasn't true and that something was wrong. I'm shocked by the cost - I've read $2100-2500. Even $2500 in the city. I see he charged you $3000 --that seems an awful lot. I realize he's considered one of the top surgeons in the area but still.. There is a very good doctor in Fort Lee but his office (staff etc) doesn't have the same great reviews as Dr Wise's office.
I'm rambling about myself- I'm sorry you're not happy with the results-- so far- I'm sure it's especially scary to loose more hair. I read a lot about skin care and I know that most products/procedures take time-a minimum of two months for skincare for example. It can often take months to take hold and work or as Dr Wise commented-6 months. I'm an impatient person so it would be a long wait for me. I imagine is scary and frustrating waiting. I wish you the best of luck. Thank you again for being so thoughtful and posting multiple times about your experience to help people like me. It was a huge help. Hang in there. Kind Regards, Christina

Hello emme! Your hair loss is pretty similar to mine, however it is a bit extend in an ophiasis pattern to be just androgenetic alopecia. This is what the doctors told you?

Hello. Yes, this is what multiple (plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and one endocrinologist) doctors have told me.
