Does Profound Really Work? I'm Going to Figure It Out.

I was told that Profound would give me profound results, that no surgery was needed - no lower face lift or neck lift - but that this new Profound treatment would tighten up all that. Let's dig in to this. I feel like men and women around the country, possibly the world, are being promised results that we're not experiencing. I think there are several things that contribute to the Profound sales pitch to make it work: first, it's expensive. And if it's expensive then it can't be bunk, right? Also, it promises fantastic results. The promotional pics look great, don't they? I've yet to see a single image of a real person who's had this done that looks even remotely improved, though. It's "new technology." That seems promising somehow, doesn't it? And you have to wait 6 months to start seeing results so I think we get it done and figure that eventually, our results will start to happen. I have a sinking sensation that we've all been taken for a ride, but nothing would make me happier than to be wrong.
To sort it out one way or another, I'm going to post my very real before and after pics here, and we can all judge together.
I've had a few other surgical procedures done - I have small Mentor gel breast implants and tummy lipo, and those things are great. It's this Profound treatment that is unproven that I feel needs more reviews on Real Self.

Profound procedure was done 2/14/19, I'm slowly adding more after pics. Also, highly recommend my doctor.

I don't think I can edit the wording on my initial review post. I would change some things if I could. I'm not in any way implying that my doctor did or would sell me on any procedure as a "cash grab." It's quite the opposite feeling, actually. It was because he referred the procedure for me, and I intuitively trusted his expertise (and still do), that I did it without much research into it, though.
It was only later as I was healing, and learning more about Profound, that I started to think that there aren't many, if any, proven results from this pricey RF treatment. I've yet to see something from a real person that looks anything like the Before and After pics of the promotional materials. I've yet to see any post from a real person that had ANY noticeable tightening from Profound. This is what's giving me pause. What a time to research, after I've gone and done it, haha. But I don't regret it because I will give my unflinching review and help others. Plus, maybe it does actually work and I'll have a noticeably tightened jaw line in 5 months! I would be so thrilled.
Anyway, Dr. Iteld is great and I highly recommend him. I think that, if anything, that the manufacturer of Profound may have overpromised their product and padded their results in some way. I don't blame individual doctors for wanting to offer new and exciting treatments, of course not. My suspicion is raised about Profound, though, because their promotional materials promise, among other things, "100% response rate for facial wrinkles," and while I'm not even sure what that means, technically and scientifically speaking, it takes only a few minutes to check out real reviews on realself where many Profound receivers say they didn't get any results, much less noticeable ones. Semantics aside, that's obviously not 100% for anything.
These pics are from 24-48 hours post procedure.

The pictures I've seen of "real people" who have noticeable results look altered to me. When you have skin 3-4 shades lighter, your makeup is fully done, you're obviously holding your head in a different position... these are altered pics in my book. I don't see anything that looks candid, to my eyes, that gives any indication that Profound works nearly as well as the manufacturer is claiming it does.

When that ^^ dawned on me, I thought I had to do my own review, as much as I'd rather not be putting these pics online. lol

From the Syneron Candela (manufacturer) website on Profound: "Yields 100% response* for total patient satisfaction." Clearly this simply isn't true and it would take some scientific word salad conditions/terms to make it not an outright lie.
I'm going to keep digging into this as my time allows. I know this: my skin under my chin is looser at one-month post Profound than it was before I did the procedure. At this point, after reading some people's experiences with this treatment, I'm honestly just hoping that at least I return to pre-procedure skin laxity in the area that was treated.

It would be much more useful to see "Before" images together with the "After " images so that a legitimate comparison can be made.

Absolutely agree. I'm going to add some ASAP. I didn't take any Before pics that were specifically for the purpose of comparing different neck/jowl laxity from different angles, and this is the issue. I didn't document for the purpose of this review because I never planned to write this review. However, my doctor has pictures of Before, and I've requested copies for myself. When I have them I will add here.

Yes, I agree - that would be helpful. Also, can you share the name of your doctor? Thanks.

Hi KateMa, I'll post the Before pics when I get them, but in meantime I'm still posting my After pics, just posted the 60 day post-procedure pics. I went to Dr. Iteld. I believe that info is linked to this review. I see you're in Chicago as well? I loved my experience with Dr. Iteld. He's a sharp guy and his staff is very kind. I'd go to him again in a second. My issue with the Profound isn't a reflection on Dr. Iteld, but rather taking issue with the over-promising done by the manufacturer of the device and the misleading promotional materials I've seen.

Correct current 30 day post procedure pics

I'm not sure if I'll be able to go back and edit the dates of my post/updates so far. My Profound was done on 2/14/19, today is 3/15/19. I took these pics just now, in case I can't figure out how to correct the previous entries, so at least I can post accurate pics from today on. The results are all that really matter here, imo, anyway. There are other users pics from immediately following the procedure but there aren't a lot of monthly timeline post procedure pics. At one month in, I'm still waiting to return to pre-Profound skin laxity under my chin, the area that was treated. Fingers crossed. :-)

I can see an improvement from the pics you posted on the day of the treatment, but we have no 'before' pics to really compare your results to.
March 17, 2019
Yes, and this is part of the problem of this post, that I didn't start with accurate and detailed Before pics. I may redo the post at some point for ease of readability. For now, I am more concerned with documenting my progress at 1 month post op. I'm very close to my Before here at 1-month post. I wish I had been much more careful with photo documentation here, sorry about that.

Had this done a year ago. It may have had a minimal effect but no way was worth the money as negligible if any results. I just wanted to tighten the jawline and that didn't happen so going to try threadlifts .Wish I'd saved my money
March 21, 2019
I believe you, botoxchin, and thanks for commenting... as much as I don't want this to be the case and I'm sorry for your experience. I wish I had dug into the reviews on realself prior to agreeing to the treatment, and picked them apart for authenticity and accuracy. I also wish I'd saved my money. Profound simply isn't a proven treatment in the least.

I didn’t have the Profound RF done but I did have a similar treatment with ThermiTight RF treatment 22 days ago.. I have had significant swelling and still am swollen and tender taking my lower face and under my jawline.. I look more jowly IMo then I did before treatment.. I’m giving it more time beife I update my review as I do really hope I get some tightening effects and no increased laxity in my skin.. I will update my review next week with 1 month post op pics.. I wish you well with your treatment results.
March 23, 2019
@ Jenny ~ Thanks for the good wishes and back at ya. I also have the "more jowly" thing happening at 40 days post-treatment but it's subtle and I'm hoping like heck it will tighten some in the coming months.

The procedure is only as good as the person behind the equipment. Settings and experience make a difference for each individual. I saw my PS just this week inquiring about Infini and Profiund. He said that a mini lift would give me better results than either and be less down time and pain. However the cost is double but if I am going to waste $4500 on Profound, why not spend double and know for certain I will have great results. Also results from RF depend on your bodies ability to make collagen and age plays into that as well. If you have lax muscle the RF isn’t going to treat a lax muscle, that’s surgery. Skin may appear to be lax because the muscle is laxing not necessarily the skin. I don’t have enough skin to be removed but the muscle is my issue. I hope you see results soon.

Informative comment, thank you. I should have put the 4k towards surgery. I'll still end up getting something like a lower facelift within the next few years, I think, to get the results I was seeking.
March 22, 2019
Not sure I see a difference at this point.
March 23, 2019
@ac ~ There's no difference to the treated area yet. If anything, I notice more "squishiness" in the treated area because I'm looking at it every day, waiting for the swelling to be completely gone. I'll post another set of pics at 45 days post procedure, so in another week. I've also requested the set of Before pics that my doc took, to add here for better comparison.
