I decided to try a profound to help tighten the area under my chin. I was intrigued by the fact that you may only need to do it every 1-4 years. I have a hard time keeping up on monthly appointments so this seemed like a much better fit.
I saw a special for 50% off at a med spa I’ve gone to in the past (coming out of quarantine, I think they were trying to get people in), so it seemed like a good time to try it out. I tried to schedule the procedure a week after the consultation but they rescheduled to make sure I stayed out of the sun for at least 2 full weeks before. I wish I had realized how strict the procedure is about not being in the sun. I am really good about wearing sunscreen everyday and hats if I’ll be outside for a while but they were strict on avoiding sun altogether as much as possible. Definitely more of a late fall/winter procedure, not June.
When I went in they put a numbing cream on my face. Then injected me with lidocaine shots and started the procedure immediately after injecting the lidocaine. The shots were the most painful part, but not bad because I was already mostly numb. I was 98% numb for the procedure. Occasionally I’d feel a little something, but it wasn’t bad at all. My provider gave me arnica Montana 30x hpus, a prescription to prevent cold sores (I’ve never had any but they said the procedure could trigger it) and an Alastin kit as part of the cost. I don’t know if they decreased the number of treatment injections because of the special it seemed like I had really good coverage. They did 172 on each of the three areas (left side of face, right side and neck). I only noted the number because the assistant was so surprised they all were equal.
Side note: another med spa I go to more regularly found out I was getting Profound done and encouraged me to purchase the Alastin skin nectar for post procedure (at $200) from them. I didn’t realize Aesthetica was including it with the cleanser, sunscreen, recovery balm and moisturizer with the procedure. I have not used Alastin before. I was planning on using the skin medica TNS recovery complex but both recommended Alastin. I am really liking the kit they provided.

Let us know how your skin looks. My skin and texture is similar to yours so I am very curious.

Definitely keep us posted with your results. How much pain did you feel the days following?

Honestly I did not experience any pain after, just heat later that evening (when my face went bright red). It was minorly uncomfortable to have so much swelling, but no pain for me. That said, I am also a slow metabolizer of medications so it's possible the lidocaine numbed me much longer than it would someone who metabolizes quickly. I realized I was a slow metabolizer last year after I had 16 stitches and my hand was still numb the next day from the shots.

So even though I haven't felt pain in day to day life, 10 days after the procedure my face is still somewhat tender to the touch almost everywhere I was treated.

Everyone is different, I appreciate the information. I'd like to get a similar procedure. I'm looking forward to hearing about the results. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm excited to see your skin too. Best wishes for healing.

Day 3

The swelling is bad in the mornings, but by evening it is much better. Bruises are still quite noticeable. Thank goodness people are still wearing masks so I could leave the house if I wanted to. I still can’t use sunscreen (until day 7) so I can’t leave very often.

Day 10 Swelling is mostly gone, still some bruising

I now understand why they said I would need two weeks off. I’ve gone into work a couple of times and people always ask me what happened. The bruising has mostly faded, but my face/neck is still tender to the touch (almost everywhere they treated) as though the whole thing is bruised. I did not have pain when not touching treated areas.
Thank you for sharing your experience so far! I hope you'll keep us updated on any future treatments :)
