PRK @ 54 - Recovery & Patience...

Hello. I am 54, just had PRK - both eyes - about 2 weeks ago. The day OF my surgery, I saw PERFECTLY. It was amazing... however, that was short lived. The first few days were rough. Got through them, and at my one week post-op, I was seeing 20/20 left eye, and 20/40 right eye. However, it was CHALLENGING to see things clearly during the visit. The doctor tried the first largest line, and I saw those very clearly, and he kept challenging me to see the next smaller line. Eventually, I could make out the smallest lines on the screen. I am now 2 weeks out - and my vision fluctuates pretty frequently throughout the day. I'm an accountant by trade, so depend heavily upon my eyes to work. I sit behind a computer screen for 8 hours a day, and look at numbers all day. A few days this past week, I was having a REALLY hard time seeing my computer screen. I had vision correction for distance only - tried the monovision glasses for a bit to see if I could get used to them, but just felt too weird to me. I was told that, if I did distance only correction, readers would be necessary for close up reading, and I'm fine with that. However, even with readers, it's challenging some days. I am using artificial tears every 15 minutes, as directed by my doctor. During my visit today, he said my eyes are healing well, but my corneas are not yet healed completely. Said it usually takes between 4-8 weeks for everything to heal. So here I sit, trying to be patient, and trying to stay positive. I just hope I've not screwed up my eyes making this decision. But if I DO get to 20/20 vision, it will be worth it in the long run.
