PRK UPDATE

This is an update at my 3 months mark. I love it just went for my last check up. I knew my left eye vision had improved perfectly. I just want to say that you really have to be patient with PRK. I was very impatient being that my job relies on my eyes. I would do it again.
I have 20/20 in both eyes. I love it. I hope this helps someone else.

Hello. I am 54, just had PRK - both eyes - about 2 weeks ago. The day OF my surgery, I saw PERFECTLY. It was amazing... however, that was short lived. The first few days were rough. Got through them, and at my one week post-op, I was seeing 20/20 left eye, and 20/40 right eye. However, it was CHALLENGING to see things clearly during the visit. The doctor tried the first largest line, and I saw those very clearly, and he kept challenging me to see the next smaller line. Eventually, I could make out the smallest lines on the screen. I am now 2 weeks out - and my vision fluctuates pretty frequently throughout the day. I'm an accountant by trade, so depend heavily upon my eyes to work. I sit behind a computer screen for 8 hours a day, and look at numbers all day. A few days this past week, I was having a REALLY hard time seeing my computer screen. I had vision correction for distance only - tried the monovision glasses for a bit to see if I could get used to them, but just felt too weird to me. I was told that, if I did distance only correction, readers would be necessary for close up reading, and I'm fine with that. However, even with readers, it's challenging some days. I am using artificial tears every 15 minutes, as directed by my doctor. During my visit today, he said my eyes are healing well, but my corneas are not yet healed completely. Said it usually takes between 4-8 weeks for everything to heal. So here I sit, trying to be patient, and trying to stay positive. I just hope I've not screwed up my eyes making this decision. But if I DO get to 20/20 vision, it will be worth it in the long run.
Hi,

Thank you for your post. I’m 52 and an accountant as well. I’m just now starting my research and booking consultations with different doctors. Not sure which surgery they’ll recommend. I can so relate to the computer screen being in that tricky zone of not being close and yet not far enough away. Please keep posting your progress. I truly hope your vision improves.
I felt exactly how you did then. You question yourself and second guess everything about the surgery. But don’t miss any follow up appointments and until you see that 20/20 vision in one or both. They should continue to make monthly appointments with until that happens. My right eye healed at a month my left eye took up to 2 1/2 months. They suggested readers until my eyes healed but it didn’t help so I just waited and let nature take its course. But I will tell you that He told me to by this eye ointment which helps to speed up the healing process which is used for swollen tissue on the eye and the gel drops are better than the artificial tears it hydrates your eyes longer. If I can help you through your journey or concerns, I will gladly help. I truly understand.

PRK

I received PRK on Feb. 7. Have not yet to see clear past 50 feet was told to use freshtote for a month. It’s clear at times but for the most part it’s still not clear all day for a month an a half ago. I’m really frustrated the doctor keeps telling me that it will get better. I am worried because when I squint my vision is clear without the the ghostly objects, blurriness, not clear. Answers please it seems like it’s taking too long

I am now 3 weeks post-surgery and my vision is still not 100% either. It fluctuates day to day but is getting better. Since I only had to do 1 eye, it doesn't bother me at all as the other eye compensates for all these ghosts/fluctuations. I am now convinced that PRK is better done 1 eye at a time.
