I have disliked my nose for the past 6 years or so, as I had a bump and a tip that went downwards when I smiled. It wasn't the worst nose, but it was enough to make me unhappy and unconfident. So, I first consulted a surgeon out of New Brunswick. His numbers were too high, so he recommended we contact Dr. Nicole Schrader. We did as he advised, and I had my first consultation promptly afterwards. During the consultation I described what I didn't like about my nose, and Dr. Schrader immediately understood and said what she would do to improve my nose. I felt she understood what I wanted, as while I wanted a nose job, I of course wanted my nose to appear natural and not look like I had had any work done. We then had a second consultation, and during this appointment Dr. Schrader discussed the risks involved and I signed a lot of paperwork. During this appointment I also saw both before and after images of other patients and 3-D imaging of what my nose would like after the surgery. I was pleased with both of the provided images and officially decided to have the surgery. We scheduled it that day. I was also given pre and post-op instructions during this consultation. As far as the surgery itself goes, Dr. Schrader doesn't pack so I didn't have immense breathing issues once I stopped draining and the gauze under my nose was removed. I didn't have a lot of bruising either, I just felt uncomfortable during the first week because of the pressure the cast created and the tape where the incision near my tip occurred. 2 days after the surgery I went back to Dr. Schrader's office for a cleaning, and during this follow up Dr. Schrader consoled me with the fact day 3 is often the worse, and things would most likely get better soon. She was right, and by day 6 I was back at her office itching (literally and figuratively to get my cast off). The process took a bit of time as I have a low pain tolerance and had a lot of dried blood that was somewhat painful to remove, but eventually the cast and the tape was off. The difference was obvious and I was immediately ecstatic with the results despite the swelling that still remained. There was a small, small bump where my large one once had been because of the swelling, and just three days later that has already gone down considerably. Additionally, my tip has improved drastically, and overall the look of my nose exceeded all of my expectations. Both Dr. Schrader and her staff made me feel extremely comfortable at the office during all of my appointments, and I have since called with questions regarding my nose and they have been quick to respond. So, while plastic surgery is a dramatic step towards improving your appearance, I would recommend both it and Dr. Schrader to anyone who thinks that they want to undergo rhinoplasty. I had a great experience (minus the uncomfortable recovery week), and I am so much happier with my appearance than I was before the surgery.
