Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty at Forme Clinic Prague

I have written a review because I am grateful to the Forme team but also because reading other peoples experiences of Blepharoplasty has been helpful to me. A number of factors led me to access treatment abroad and not just the difference in cost which is significant. Having had two consultations in UK I felt that there was a reluctance to treat me because I have graves disease – which I did not find encouraging. Around the time I was first considering Blepharoplasty I can remember stepping into a mirrored lift on the way to a meeting and feeling shocked by my appearance. In the space of a couple of years my eyes aged at least 10. How much the graves disease contributed to the eyebags I don’t know but I looked beaten up and like I had a permanent black eye.

I delayed access treatment for another year to ensure there were no developments with my eyes and now I am very pleased with my decision to choose Forme Clinic. If I was to complete a cost benefit analysis I would say that the excuse to travel alone to Prague was a huge bonus. It is the most amazing place and I didn’t experience any anxiety up until just before the surgery because I was positively distracted by the environment.

The clinic is very efficient, providing for me a unique medical experience with no delay or faffing around. The staff gave me half a tablet prior to the surgery which did concern me because I realised that I would be fully aware throughout the procedure. Dr Vasek said that sedation was unnecessary and on reflection I would agree with him. When the local anaesthetic was injected I felt my eyes become numb and heavy as they closed. They stayed closed throughout the procedure. I could only see the bright light through my eye lids and feelings of pressure but no pain. It felt as though someone was tugging on my eyelashes. I can remember being surprised by how quickly the first lid was done and not feeling worried about the other three because it was OK. All four lids took less than an hour. After the treatment I was glad that I had not been sedated as I was alert enough to go out and see more of Prague.

The whole experience was entirely positive. Dr Vasek is a confident and skilled surgeon and the clinic staff ensure that it runs efficiently. There was no need to take any painkillers at all afterwards and I would say the worst thing was the itching between days 2-5. This did torment me to the point I was making fists with my toes and I was worried about scratching my eyes during the night. I did not expect to heal so quickly and have had no problems at all with my eyes / lids and have been able to read, use computers etc. I look more alert, less annoyed and have no eye bags. I expected some improvement to my eyes but did not expect symmetry because my eyes were different to start with. I noticed after the surgery that the incisions around my eyes had been made differently and now my eyes look the same. Dr Vasek must have factored in the eye difference - I think that he is amazing. I have hypertrophic scars elsewhere on my body but my eyes have healed well as Dr Vasek said they would. I am not planning any more treatments but would not hesitate to recommend the clinic to friends. People think that accessing treatment abroad will be of a lower standard because it is cheaper but this has not been my experience.

Thank you for such helpful insight, I am on verge of booking for upper & lower eyes with Dr Vasek. Before I book flights & op date, would I feel physically able to just stay the one night after op, then fly back short haul?
Sorry I did not see this comment earlier - I hope your blep. I only stayed one night in Prague after the op. I was glad to get home so I could lose the sungalsses
Hi there,

I’ve just returned from Prague whereby I’ve just undergone upper blephraplasty treatment with Dr. Vasek. It’s day 5 post op and I wasn’t prepared for how badly bruised I am and how long I’m taking to heal. Having seen and read so many positive comments about Dr. Vasek and the Forme clinic, I was very confident about it being a straight forward procedure. Sadly for me, I have bruised under my eyes like I’ve been hit with a baseball bat. Both eyes still swollen and uneven, which I did expect to a degree, but my eyes feel tight and not my own anymore. I have no feeling in my eyelids as they are numb. The insides of my eyes look rather wonky and I wonder if when I take the stitches out, it may even them up. However, as it stands, they’re not looking great, they’re asymmetrical and look horrendous. I know I must be patient, but nobody seems to be mentioneing anything like my experience and wanted to be reassured that they will settle. I had only booked two weeks off work, but I cannot see me being able to go back in to work a week today as the bruising will not have gone. Also, they’re so obviously different sizes at the moment, I’m embarrassed to be seen. I’m orating that it’s just me being impatient, but I cant see past what they look like now and it’s making me feel heat regret for having it done. Did you experience any of these feelings? Everyone seemed to have no obvious signs of having he surgery after a week - there is no way I could even step out without glasses for at least another 10 days.
How are your eyes now?
I am happy with my eyes. One is slightly bigger and was before the surgery because of the Graves’ disease but there is a massive improvement. Don’t miss my eye bags x
Hi Marshamads. I wish I had taken some photographs of my eye lids at their worst because I was very swollen. For 10 days after the op I felt like things were crawling around on my eyelids. I had only booked 2 weeks off work and so I too was worried about my return. 5 days post op is too soon to worry but I do understand. I used to box and so I am accustomed to swollen black eyes but even I was shocked by my appearance for a week after the op. I spent a lot of time with frozen peas on my face (mostly to reduce itching) but found this did reduce the swelling a lot. I think the problem is that professional people are under pressure to emerge without visible signs within a short window. My swelling reduced considerably after a week but because I had had significant blood pooling under both eyes I still had (purple but flat) moon shaped bruises under both eyes (above upper cheek bones) when I returned to work after 2 weeks. I was able to cover it with camouflage makeup but it must have been visible because people asked whether I had been fighting again. I also noticed that a few weeks after the op my eyes were a bit crepe and wrinkly underneath. I don't know whether this was due to the stretching during the op or the swelling afterwards but it has improved since. I would try not to worry about what other people might think but then I am more used to people thinking that I am a DV victim. I have never regretted having my eyes done because they were so bad - I looked like I hadn't slept for 6 months. I do understand how you feel but would try and stay away from mirrors whilst they are not your friend. Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it. Just had stitches out today and the lump on the inside of my eye seems to be accentuated even more :(. I am praying I just need to be more patient and isn’t a permanent fixture on my eye....
How do you like your result now?
Thanks to you both for your comments and well done on your surgeries. It's a brave step!
