Ear Fold Surgery - My POSITIVE Experience

I just wanted to share my positive experience of the Ear fold surgery, as I'm aware of how uncommon it is.
For me, I have always hated one of my ears, it was a lot more prominent than the other, but unfortunately constrained by money and not being able to take time off work, I assumed id never be able to sort it; that was until I came across the Ear fold procedure at Spire hospital in Portsmouth.
It seemed pretty perfect, quick healing time, easy to hide, not too expensive and instant results. My only issue was that I couldn't find much about it online; but I decided to take a leap of faith and go ahead with it.
The consultation was fine, £100 and lasted about 30 mins. Mr Pringle showed me what it would probably look like after the procedure with the clips and ensured I was aware that I could look slightly different, but both of us agreed it was an improvement to what I already had.
So 3 weeks later I went and got the op done, all i could think about throughout was "oh god what I'm I doing".. it took about an hour to do one ear which was a lot more than I expected, pain free but felt very odd.
Immediately after I wasn't very satisfied with the result as my ear now looked so flat in comparison to the other, but as it has healed this has improved massively.
Healing was super painful, lots of throbbing and awful bruising, however after about a month all of the bruising was gone and now after 3 months I can comfortably sleep on my ear without any pain or worries.
After 3 months, I feel so much more confident, I used to wear my hair up for work all the time regardless as I had to, but strangely no-one even noticed when I finally wore my hair up again about a month after healing! I just feel so much happier in myself.
I can honestly say the Ear fold procedure has changed my life and I am so glad I went through with it, it was worth the £1600 that I paid.
There's only a few negatives which take it down to 4 stars for me;
-since healing there has been a pointy bit at the back of my ear, it's only minor and not visible but I worry that one day when I'm elderly the skin will thin and the Ear fold implant will break through. (Although this could all be in my head)
-you can see the implant under the skin slightly (only when you're looking for it though)

Both ears

Here are both ears together, I'm happy with the symetry as it's much better than before! These are the pics of both ears at the trial fitting with the stick on implants, but they look the exact same after the procedure (just not as red! Haha)

Hi how long did it take for your ear to come out more from your head feel like mine is to close to my head and don’t look the same as my other ear was it after the stitches had gone? And when could you lay on your ear

Hi it didn't come out more from my head, I think that it stays in the same place and this is why you trial it with the temporary implants before. Unless it's really noticibly different from your other ear I wouldn't worry about it too much, from my point of view (as one of mine is slightly flatter) I'd much rather have it like this than how it was before!
I could lay on my ear after about 8 weeks comfortably.

Hello Jessica, i will have the procedure in January. I also do not have asymmetric ears and was told that the Ear Fold cannot be "personalized" since the clips are the same for everyone. Which makes sense to me. One question about the post op please: would you say you cannot sleep for a whole month? If so , how did you make it "better"? Any suggestion? :) Thank you

Hi there,
That is right that the clips themselves cannot be personalised, but the reason for the trial clips is that you can personalise where they are placed, and the different placements create a different effect e.g. flatter against head or more folded.
Personally as I only had the procedure done on my more prominent ear, sleeping was not an issue. I sleep on my side normally so I just slept on my other ear. It took about a week of me sleeping with a pillow behind my back to stop me from rolling over onto my ear fold ear in the night, but after that I had no issue.
Are you having the procedure on both ears? If so you'll have to sleep on your back, you could probably use a travel pillow for your neck to make it more comfortable.

yes, both ears. I will buy that one for sure even if it does touch the ears a little anyway. I am more scared i will not sleep for a month than the surgery (i am not a very pleasant person when i do not sleep, ahhaha)

Haha I'm sure it'll be fine! You'll think about it in the night and be really careful for the first week or so but then you should get used to it and the pain should ease off. It'll be worth it! Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions :)
