Day 6 After my Procedure.

I had Coolsculpting done on my abs 6 days ago. 2 applicators on the upper abs, 2 on the lower. While I’d done my research prior to my appointment, I was not truly prepared for the amount of pain I was about to experience.

The application/freezing process itself went fine. However, I am a bit claustrophobic and prone to asthma attacks when anxious – and I felt like I could neither sit upwards enough nor flat enough in order to breathe. It was all I could do, to keep telling myself to breathe. When all I can do is take shallow breaths, that makes it so much worse for me, even though logically I know I’m okay. That part of the process was incredibly uncomfortable, but not painful. However, I had one problem spot, just under my breast on my ribcage. That spot never went numb. During the entire 35 minutes, I felt like that muscle was being pulled away from my rib (the best way I can think to describe it?) – Extremely painful! Thankfully, that feeling only occurred on the one side.

The true pain kicked in with the removal of the applicators. It was like white-hot lightning all over my gut when enduring the after-massage. Kudos to the tech for being incredibly patient with me, and for doing it well, even though I was in quite a lot of pain. She also was gracious between applications, as my body was overwhelmed and didn’t know what to do with itself so my blood sugar dropped to the point of feeling like I was going to pass out. I desperately needed a snack, and she helped me out with a power bar and some water. Just the ticket! My body and nerves recovered within a few minutes and I was able to go through the second application process with much less pain and being much better prepared for what I was going to experience.

Within the first 3 days after, there was nothing too significant to mention. I did wake with a large bruise on my lower abdomen, but it wasn’t too deep, only slightly discolored. The spot on my ribcage that I mentioned earlier was still quite painful to the touch and wearing a bra was/is quite painful.
It’s now day 6, and there’s still nothing significant to report. Most of the numbness is completely gone; my entire abdomen just feels like a giant bruise. The spot on my ribcage is still incredibly painful (so is wearing a bra), and I’ve experienced some minor itching below the surface of my skin, but no significant nerve pain or other issues from the procedure. I have been taking Tylenol as necessary, but not too often. I am still definitely swollen; I’ve gained about 4 pounds since undergoing the initial procedure. Most of that I think is water weight, as I find that I simply can’t drink enough (I am constantly hydrating!). That’s expected, though. My clothes still fit, although I’ve been wearing spanx under my pants to help with the friction/discomfort of the waist band.

I’ve seen plenty of people report sleep disturbances, and I’m happy to say I’ve been fortunate enough to not experience that. So far, my experience has gone over well and I can’t wait to see the results. I’ve been too sore to go to the gym over the last week, but I look forward to going back once my belly doesn’t feel like a floppy bruise (I wasn’t that jiggly prior to the event, but I am now! Or at least, it feels like it.).

I am going back in soon to have my flanks/love handles done. I hear that this usually goes better for folks than the abs, and I have a much better idea of what to expect now than I did prior to getting my abs done. We'll see!
