I am a 33 years old mother of four who has wanted breast augmentation since my first child 16 years ago completely deflated my breasts. I am finally done with babies/breastfeeding and actually doing it!

I have pretty much known I wanted Dr DeMars since day one. Well, today I had my consult and now I'm super nervous because he said I need a donut lift in addition to the implants. I came home and began researching and WOW... Donut lifts have a really bad reputation! lol

I've read that Donut Lifts increase risk for capsular contracture by 34%, have potential for severe scarring, and generally unreliable and unpredictable outcomes. Talk about freaking out!

I'd love to hear from some other people on here who've had Donut lifts combined with larger implants. I'm going to contact my PS tomorrow and ask some questions that I didn't know to ask until after I researched the donut lift.

Anyway, super excited about new boobs, super nervous about the whole lifting thing. lol And again, if anyone has had the Donut lift and wants to share their experience with me, I'd be grateful. Also open to hearing from anyone who was told they needed one and DIDN'T do it and how you liked the outcome without the Donut lift.

Thanks for starting up a journal. I have not had a donut lift but like you I researched the subject prior to getting a full anchor lift. From what I’ve seen on these message boards I believe your concerns about donut lifts are accurate. Although they may look great early on I’ve observed that over time the areola does stretch and flatten... and often times to an undesirable result. And even if they don’t cause excessive stretching and scarring... it’s very questionable as to how much of a lift they really offer, imo. There are some PS in the doctors Q&A here that believe calling it a “lift” is a misnomer. If you want to successful lift my suggestion would be to find a board-certified PS that specializes in breast lift surgery and has numerous samples (before/after) as well as real reviews online that you like. That’s what I did. I can’t stress enough how important it is find the right PS for BL/BA surgery which is the one of the most complicated surgeries out there. Good luck with your decision. :-)

Interestingly I was just discussing this very same topic with another member that had a donut lift. See the 11 May 2018 update in the linked review below:

Thank you for that link. Yikes! The amount of people unhappy with that lift is outrageous! I thought I had decided on this doctor 100% but to be honest, I think I'm going to do some consult with a few others, perhaps PS with the 3D imaging software or something that can show me what I would look like without a lift vs with and which lift is best for me. I went to see my surgeon yesterday and he made me feel better, but then I come on here and freak out again. lol I don't know if you saw my question in the QA section but most of the doctors here said DON'T DO IT, you're right to be terrified, etc...

Yes I saw your question there. I agree with the PS that say don’t do it. Btw if you’re looking for a great PS that specializes in BL/BA surgery I recommend my own (Steven Vath, MD). I found him through this website. At the very least you may want a free online consultation with him. And of course I realize the thought of traveling for surgery may seem a little overwhelming. That was my original thought also. I actually had a deposit with a local PS before I decided to cancel and travel from my surgery. I just figured it would be less of a risk to travel for a great PS than to go with someone locally I wasn’t sure about. To mention all the disasters I’ve seen on these treatment boards. My PS also has an out-of-town patient page with a seamless travel plan. Feel free to check out my review or send me a private message if you want more details. Good luck. :-)

Btw I wouldn’t just focus on PS that just offer 3-D imaging and other gimmicks like that. Look for Bd certified PS that has many photo samples to show in addition to numerous great reviews (with before/after pics) online. I would avoid ones that have more than a couple bad reviews. In fact the reason I went to my PS is because he has no bad reviews at all. Also given that this surgery has a very high revision rate (often times to no fault of the PS) be sure to ask about their revision policy. Good luck. :-)

Great idea!! I actually hadn't thought to ask about his revision policy. I asked how long he has performed this exact procedure, and what his rate of revision on it was, and if he had encountered any of the complications I was concerned about after the procedure and his answers were: 20+ years performing this exact type of surgery with 10 MORE years of other types of surgeries before Benelli was a thing, No revision or complications for this particular surgery, and that he is quite comfortable with it and hasn't experienced the complications that some surgeons seem to have. He said "It makes sense that surgeons who've had poor outcomes wouldn't use the technique or recommend it, but that hasn't been my experience. I've performed it for 20 years with positive outcomes."

I am going to call and inquire about his revision policy. I didn't see anything about revision in my pre op packet.

He does have EXCELLENT reviews. He is one of the best known and most reputable Board Certified PS in the PNW. I just have to be really sure, ya know. This is a HUGE deal to me and a big commitment.

Steven Vath... I'll look him up. I have had some people on another board recommend travel as well. Dr. Revis was recommended more than once. But that's a LONG trip! lol I'm not totally closed off to the idea of travel though. We'll see.

Yes you should look him (Steven Vath, MD) up and check out his real reviews here; one good thing about him is he does not charge for revision work not even for anesthesia or operating room fees. I was told the reason he can afford to do that is because he has so few revisions. I personally would avoid Dr. Revis or any of the low-budget PS in south Florida. Revis has a lot of mixed reviews many of which are not good. Btw one of the reasons the prices are so low in Florida is because the MD’s are allowed to practice “bare” (i.e. without malpractice or liability insurance). The state is also not really good at following up with medical complaints. I actually live in Florida and I flew out of state to get my surgery. LOL. Talk later.

Oh my goodness. This is one of the best jobs I have ever seen. Magnificent. I had mine done years ago but they never looked that food to begin with and look even worse now. I went to supposedly one of the most renowned surgeons in NYC. Booo! You look so good!

Thank you so much! Although, I'm really sorry to hear you were never really happy with yours. That's a huge bummer. If you ever want yours redone, my doctor; Dr. DeMars is absolutely amazing. His portfolio of before/afters is absolutely flawless. He is worth traveling if necessary.

Thank you! I will look into him. It is definitely worth the investment as you have shown. Enjoy!

Feeling Better About the Benelli

User Avatar
lennev

I went back to Dr. DeMars to discuss my fears and apprehension about potential complications with Donut lift. He assured me that he has a excellent personal track record with this procedure and has encountered none of the notorious aforementioned complications. They showed me some before and afters of his Benelli/implant combos and he does really fantastic work. He didn't have a ton of examples because he said this procedure isn't something that works for everyone or a lift that the majority of BA patients need. But what he did have was flawless. I feel so much better about it. I'm finally accepting that this needs to happen.

I am now focusing on preparing my body for the upcoming surgery and healing process. I am Taking collagen supplements (though I'll have to stop those 2 weeks before surgery), using Tamanu oil on my breasts, eating better, no smoking, etc... Doctor didn't suggest this stuff to be clear, but common sense tells me that a important factor of any successful healing process is optimal health.

Anyway, that's where I'm at today. I'm going to keep up on updating my process from well before to well after my procedure so others can see the emotional and physical realities of this process. I know it has helped me to hear from others.

Dr. Demars did this exact same procedure to me five years ago. Even now my lift and augmentation look amazing. Dr. Demars is truly an artist!

Kristenaa,

That is really awesome to hear! I am overjoyed with my results right now but I have wondered how well it will hold up over time. I do know MANY friends who've gone to DeMars for Breast Augmentations and they're great some of them even 20 years later! but none also had lifts. It's good to hear you're still satisfied. He really is the best in the northwest in my opinion.

Surgery scheduled w/ Dr. DeMars

User Avatar

Hey everyone!
I haven't updated in a while but I've made a lot of "progress" emotionally and financially towards surgery since ya'll last heard from me. I paid my non refundable scheduling and facility fees and set "THE DATE." 7/11/2018 I will drift off to dreamland under anesthesia with my deflated, "mom boobs" in tow, and awaken with a new set of larger, fuller, prettier girls! I mean, that's the plan anyways! lol
I'm finally on board mentally 100%. I'm more excited than I am nervous for a change. I'm still struggling to quit smoking. I've smoked 3 times today. But I'm not smoking whole cigarettes, I take a couple drags, scold myself, & put it out. By this time next week I'm gonna be DONE. I do not want nipple necrosis and neither do you, trust me... so if you're a smoker preparing for your own surgery, knock that [RS bleep] off. lol
I've been eating better. Cut out refined sugars, upped my Protein and veggies to promote optimal healing. Drinking tons of water and bone broth which is AMAZING for facilitating the healing of scars and just healthy skin and tissue in general. If you don't know, I encourage you to google "Bone Broth Benefits" It promotes skin elasticity and collagen production. I lived on it during my recovery from Spinal surgery and I healed very quickly and you can hardly see my scar. I'm trying to be as healthy as I can when I go in. I also got Acetyl L Carnitine to take post surgery for nerve regeneration just in case I lose sensation. It's been clinically proven to reverse nerve damage when taken post operatively. Got my Arnica ready to go too! I'm telling you, I'm set! I'm even deep cleaning my house and starting to practice limited arm movement and move things to a lower level that I can comfortably reach after surgery.
I'm going to contact Dr. DeMars office tomorrow and find out if there's anything else I should be doing, buying, or whatever to prepare. I know some places ask you to buy special bras and creams and whatnot ahead of time. He is a really low key doctor though and not into hype or up-selling you all the fancy, unnecessary things. So I doubt he will want me to buy much.
Yeah... so that's where I'm at. I feel like I'm nesting. lol Ya know when you're pregnant and preparing for the baby like a total psychopath. I am doing that except this time it's TWINS. lol See what I did there?
I'll get my Husband to take some before photos this week. I want to really document this for you guys because it's been really hard for me to find good information and before/afters of this procedure and I know there will be others in the future who will benefit from my photos and experience.

I'm totally saving these supplement tips! I've tried bone broth in the past and found it to be pretty disgusting tasting.... maybe it was a mental thing, like the idea of jelly like bone marrow totally creeps me out. Lol Is there a brand you recommend I try?
User Avatar

Well, I'm probably totally going to gross you out more lol... but I usually make my own out of Ox Tail Bones and veggies. However, when I do buy it I usually buy Kettle & Fire Brand.

I have a friend who can't stand bone broth and she bought some powdered bone broth collagen & protein shake mix that was flavored like chocolate?!? I don't know, I'll ask her what it is called.

Yep totally creeps me out, but I know that has to be so good for you! And yes please let me know if you can about the chocolate thing, that sounds much more palatable lol lol
