Chin Implant to Create More Masculine Profile

I'm going to have a silicone implant in about a week. I just want better balance to my profile. I have a strong nose, but I don't mind it. I'd rather just bring my chin forward so it create a stronger, more masculine profile. I'm not sure of the brand of implant my surgeon uses. He showed me four sizes and we are trying to determine if a 2 or a 3 is best. I assume that 2 in medium and 3 is large. He said me might try both sizes when I'm under and I told him he can choose what looks most aesthetically balanced on me. I think the 3 adds about 7-8 mm. Curious what others think about what might be best for me. I'm having surgery on a Thursday and will likely stay home the entire week after (working from home). I'm worried about how much swelling I'll have (it will be done from under the chin) and that it will be very noticeable. Fortunately, I've always have a beard and I'll just grow that back while I'm healing. We'll see if people will notice since I've been working with them daily for more than 10 yrs! Stay tuned for my updates and photos!

Thanks for posting your journey. To be honest, I think you already have a great chin. It's a chin most people desire for their "after photos". However, I also understand its not how others view it, but you. Best of luck!

Thanks for your feedback! I think my chin is "ok" but a little weak. I don't think people look at me and say I'm unbalanced. But I have been told that a beard better "balances" my face and I tend to look a bit softer/feminine because I have a small face and larger eyes. Your comment helps because it tells me I should not go for anything very big. Maybe the size 2 is better, offering a smaller enhancement.

You do not need chin implant! That's killer chin you have trust! I had medium silcion extended placed! I'm still 3 weeks post up it looks great consideringn my receding chin! But I wish I had normal to start off with to avoid this whole process! My advice to you bro is save your money and time you have good chin ask anyone!

Thank you for starting your story here on RealSelf! Are you nervous right now or feeling pretty cool? I think your current chin is great, but with a few more millimeters you will be turning even more heads, I'm sure. You should check out this list of pre- and post-op chin implant tips. Day of Surgery

Had my surgery about 3 hrs ago. Feeling really good so far. I did not have any nausea and I'm basically feel like myself. Ready to eat! A little soreness under the chin so I took a Percoset. I managed to eat some rice and a protein shake but chewing was a little uncomfortable. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything all day so I'm pretty hungry! The doctor ended up using a #3 implant, which he said was about 9mm. I get my bandages off in 2-3 days so I can't wait to see the change! I was really nervous going in but now that it's over, I'm glad I did it. I'm working at home all week next week, so that will give me a chance to grow my beard back. Part of me wants to not grow the beard, but it will easier to avoid the questions ;-). Happy to answer any questions others might have.

What kind of anesthesia did the doctor use?
December 14, 2014
He put me under a general anesthetic. I don't remember a thing. I woke up easily and was out of bed within 10 min. I had no nausea and recovered very quickly.

This morning I pulled the bandage off. Overall, I'm pleased. At first I thought I looked a little bit Frankenstein, but the I realized that I still have a lot of swelling that is making my chin wider, more prominent, and longer. I can understand why people reviewing this procedure freak out a few days after the implant because of the swelling. Honestly, I don’t think anyone who doesn’t know me would think I looked strange. It’s just a noticeable change for me at this point. You can see that I have some bruising around the incision and that’s where I have most of the swelling, causing my face to look longer. I’m surprised at how good the incision looks! I can see it healing rather easily.

My doctor told me to do gentle soft tissue massage to move the fluids out of the skin. Basically, I stroke up the jaw away from the chin to move the swelling out. I’m also taking Arnica for the bruising. I only took a few of the Percosets for pain but really, I didn’t need them. The pain was minimal. I just feel tightness and I can’t quite smile normally. Eating was a bit difficult with the bandage because it was hard to open my mouth. I have been icing some, but probably not as much as I should, only 3-4 times a day at most.

I took some pics and am rather shocked at the amount of change. I know it’s partly because of the swelling but overall I do like the improvement. From the front I have a little bit of asymmetry but it’s because of the swelling. I’ve started to grow my beard back so I imagine that within 5 days I’ll look pretty much like I did before. I get the sutures out in four more days. So far so good!

I will be getting an implant soon. Are you still satisfied with your results?
December 17, 2014
So far, yes. It still looks a bit swollen now but I know that in two months I will probably love it.
