Oh my. How did you find this out, Silverheart? Maybe you could get them out very soon, allow for healing and then go forward from there... These are tough decisions, I know, but without your health, life is even more tough.
My right implant had started leaking last year. I became very ill and ended up in the ER twice. All kinds of weird symptoms. I had noticed my breast seemed somewhat smaller but did not really pay attention, until one day it was really noticeable. I felt bad for almost all of 2014 and the first few months of this year. I think the implant leaking, saline with a silicone shell, made me sick. Check out what Dr Kolb and Dr Melmed in Texas say.
Here is a list of chemicals in Breast Implants. CHEMICALS FOUND IN BREAST IMPLANTS - THE COMPLETE LIST 1. Methyl Ethyl Ketone 2. Cyclohexanone 3. Isopropyl alcohol 4. Denatured Alcohol 5. Acetone 6. Urethane 7. Polyvinyl Chloride (Liquid vinyl) This ingredient was used in all medical devices made at Edwards Lab, from tubing to gel. 8. Lacquer Thinner 9. Ethyl Acetate 10. Epoxy Resin 11. Epoxy Hardener - both 10 & 11 are chemically known as glycosides Ether of Bisphenol A. 12. Amine 13. Printing Ink 14. Toluene 15. Dichloromethan (Methylene Chloride) This breaks down in the body so blood cannot carry oxygen: Metabolizes carbon monoxide poisoning. Causes CSN depression. 16. Freon 17. Silicone 18. Flux 19. Solder 20. Metal cleaning Acid 21. Lofol (Formaldehyde) 22. Talcum Powder 23. Color Pigments as Release Agents 24. Oakite (Cleaning Solvent) 25. Eastman 910 glue (Cyanoacyrylates) 26. Ethylene Oxide (ETO) 27. Carbon Black 28. Xylene 29. Hexone 30. Hexanone2 31. Thixon-OSN-2 32. Antioxidant (Rubber) 33. Acid stearic 34. Zinc Oxide 35. Naptha (Rubber Solvent) 36. Phenol 37. Benzene - Known Carcinogen!!!!! KNOWN TO CAUSE IMMUNE DISEASE!!!!!! - See more at: http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/Women/BreastImplants.aspx#chems
Oh my God in Heaven, please help us all.
I have come across a very interesting website regarding silicone poisoning which you might be interested to look into. It is called Doctor Myhill dot com (it is a UK based private practice from what I can see. Maybe the services won't be available to you but it is very interesting to read) Ps. I can see similarities between your photo and myself. I notice your left breast (in photo) is lower than your right. This is like my right breast. It hangs much heavier than the left one and feels very firm from the capsular contracture. Did you say both of yours have ruptured?xx

Now they aren't upside down - but ey were earlier
Hi again, I think once there is encapsulation with an implant it's bound to happen again. If you get them replaced, you'll be advised to exchange them again 10 years later. That thought is daunting. I don't want to be in my late 60's and 70's getting unnecessary breast surgery. That scares me a lot. I wish you the best in making this decision. Blessings to you.
Good advice. Explant first, wait and see. I had a lift at the same time and waiting to see if I need fat transfer. At this poin, I am now 7 weeks post and they will continue to settle/change - maybe - over the next couple months. If they were to stay like they are now, I don't think I'll need a fat transfer. I am currently 5'5, 155 lbs, 57 yrs. old. I didn't have much to start with 31 years ago but I am comfortably wearing 36C soft cup bras. I think the old implant pockets made my breast width wider, or maybe it's just post menopause, who knows. But I would say, DO NOT replace. You may be happily surprised with what you end up with and if not satisfied with the size, get a fat transfer!
I agree with Dove and Saavy. I'm ex planting on 5-28 without revision or a lift. I'll wait six months to see what my body looks like before taking any further surgical action.
When I read on another website about 'foggy thinking' I identified with this straight away. I also feel my memory & concentration has deteriorated, I've always put it down to 'getting older' but I'm only 41!! I wasn't sure if you were thinking along these lines or something else when you say 'neurological issues'.
I had numbness and tingling in hands, feet, and arms. Sometimes my thighs.
Bise

Hi Silverheart, I've had my silicone implants for 27 years, under the muscle. I don't know if they are ruptured but they bother me, one is very, very hard and hurts, and they look ridiculous in clothes at this point in my life. They've gotten bigger since menopause. Youck. So they are coming out on May 20th. I can't wait! I am scared they will look bad but I must do it anyway. I didn't know they had a 10 year shelf life! When you and I got them in we were told they'd last forever. Sure. So, this wonderful site has helped me very much. It took me a while but I got up the courage to have a few consultations with plastic surgeons. No lift for me at this point, but maybe in the future. If I were you and I was sure they were ruptured, I would definitely get them out. Please think seriously about this. Take care and stay in touch.
Silverheart, one good option is to remove them.... wait 6 months and maybe see about a fat transfer.
if you do not like the results . But you might be thrilled!
Hi silverheart, I'm 49 & with implants for 30 years. I've had many issues with them including rupture. I would ask that you seriously consider explant instead of replacing them. If your implants have contractures, chances are greater that it will happen again. I agree with explanting & waiting 6+ months before deciding on a lift. I have seen wonderful results with explant only. Best wishes on your decision ❤
Thank you - this is awful ordeal - I am going to look up dr johns Currently consulting with dr Wooten - she said I would Prob be happy With breasts if no replqcements but I think she was thinkng of leaving capsules in if I didn't want replacement - but I'm thinking of everythi g out to heal and wait - if I'm am just an a cup I will be happy was only aa thirty years ago - but maybe body changed
My first consult was with Dr. Johns. I liked him, but I'm not sure as to how many explants he has performed. When I mentioned "enbloc" to him, he didn't realize what I was talking about at first. He wasn't sure if he could remove my implants that way. I'm not trying to take anything away from him (I'm sure he's a very good PS), but my guess is he's not overly experienced in removing implants enbloc. With ruptured implants, I especially think it's important to have them removed by that method. Plus the ultrasound I recently had revealed several silicone containing lymph nodes. Dr. Feng said she can remove them during explant, which is a relief.
Silverheart, I too am having Dr. Feng in Cleveland perform my surgery. i apologize if I've already told you this!
I've just come across your review and will be following you:) In terms of deciding whether or not to replace or just explant, only you can decide that and I think it depends on your reasons. For me the main reasons for explanting are 1- the pain and discomfort of the capsular contracture, 2- lots of random symptoms which seem to be unconnected with each other but collectively make me look like a hypochondriac and feel like I'm falling apart!!! I will only know if it is silicone poisoning if I have them removed and see a change in my symptoms, 3- I constantly fear growing a lump and it going undetected because my implant has hidden it. I have lots of lumps & bumps anyway so I wouldn't notice an extra one!! My family and children are more important to me than my boobs and the thought of anything happening to me for vanity reasons makes me worry a lot. I'm not going into this lightly, I'm not happy about having them removed and can't be certain that I won't live to regret it but I've decided to take the chance xx
So well said, wishingwell. The process we probably all go through in deciding to explant...it takes some time. This site helps so many of us to get through that process without so much anxiety and loneliness.
Agree, well said. Making the decision is the hardest and the more prepared you are with the process really helps make it easier. I told my doctor I could help him with the surgery, I knew so much about it lol! After 9 weeks post explant, I am still somewhat euphoric and happy I made the decision and its OVER WITH!
Your reasons are great and totally valid! I had the same fears and feelings. I made the decision beforehand that whatever the outcome I would accept it and deal with it. I didn't know if any of my vague problems such as arm and hand numbness and interstitial cystitis would improve or whether I would be disfigured but I took the chance. That bring said I researched to find a a really good doctor to lessen the chance of a crappy outcome. That is important. If a doc tells you you we on like the outcome believe him and find someone more skilled. I am 3 months post op and very happy. My arm and hand numbness is gone and the IC is in remission or hopefully gone for good. Don't know for sure because it flares and recedes but do far..nothing!!
always such a personal decision ! you have to prepared either way you choose :-))
