PicoSure Laser Removal of Microblading -- My Journey

1MarylandMom
I had my microblading done 23 months ago (06/2017). It seemed like a good idea at the time -- lol. In the first 6 months the color looked good although not completely thrilled with the shape -- Too thick for my small face IMO. Microblading itself was painful, and the dreadful healing was a 2-week period of scabbing, etc.
I've got a good eye for color, and several months in I could see the color shifting when I was original told it would just fade to nothing over time. No mention of color shifting. The ink used was Everlasting Brows.
After hours of on-line research, I decided on laser removal so I can put this behind me. I searched the Internet for locations that offered PicoWay or PicoSure as this method is superior to the older Q-switched lasers. Unfortunately, where I am located, it was not easy to find. I finally came across a MediSpa about an hour from home that now offered PicoSure done by an M.D. I went for a consultation and liked the doctor so decided to schedule my first session. I was told I would likely need 2 or 3 sessions with a month or so healing in between.
I had my first PicoSure treatment on 04/18/2019 . Treatment not painful and very quick. Kind of a shock with the first zap, but after that, it was no big deal at all. The doc did numb my skin prior of course. No blisters, and the skin is totally intact with no swelling. I'd say 95% of the gray/blue gone but left with bright red where ink used to be.
I'll attach some photos of before and of my progress. I hope it's not too many, but I'm hoping they'll be helpful to others in the same situation.

Good luck on the rest of your journey. I hope you can get them to completely fade!

That's a great result! Good luck with the next treatment - hope your red isn't as stubborn as mine.

You should start a thread with your pictures! I am going to get mine removed next week! I got a spot test done last week and the spot is basically red/pink!

Thank you both! I'm hoping the next treatment will really cut down on the red, but honestly, covering the red with makeup is not as difficult as covering the off-colored hair strokes. I'll try my best to be patient.

This is amazing! Such awesome results! I went in for a test spot today and it is RED! But just hoping it fades to pinkish like yours! They look awesome!

Here in Singapore you could request a touch up with the eyebrow artist to use flesh coloured pigment to touch up the parts where you needed a thinner brow, it’s actually quite a common thing. Good luck to the rest of your journey, if you needed someone good at eyebrows and happen to come here in Singapore you may contact me, have a friend here who does really good brows!

Session #2 PicoSure Laser Removal of Microblading

1MarylandMom
Hello everyone! I had my second treatment with PicoSure yesterday afternoon. The session went the same as the first. We used numbing cream on the skin for about 10 minutes before beginning. The doc used the same setting as she did the first time -- I saw 755 nm written on my chart but I know there were other settings like pulse duration, spot size, or something like that. The doc is very careful about writing everything down and also took a photo for my chart so she can track my progress. She also asked me questions about my healing -- no pain, no swelling, no blistering, and skin was intact throughout. She was happy with the results and decided to use the same settings this time (and I have an event next week so don't want any skin issues). She said if there is not enough of a change the next time, she could change the settings and go a little stronger. Frankly, I'd rather go low and slow to avoid any skin issues, but I trust her judgement. Treatment felt much like the first session -- a snapping sensation on the skin and immediate frosting that clears very quickly. The area is so small, total treatment time is seconds on each brow. Immediately following, I could see the microblading strokes were gone. They did reappear a little last time, so time will tell. The redness seems the same to me -- I took a photo immediately following the session and then today (almost 24 hours later). I do feel a wee little bit of tenderness over the tail of my brow on one side but not significant and skin is intact. Again, no swelling, blistering, etc. She lathered me up with Aquaphor, and I was out the door. I am scheduled to go back in one month again. If I see any changes between now and then, I'll post more pics. Hoping the redness will fade a little to pink, but only time will tell. Tedious makeup application covers it well, and I was able to go to an exercise class this morning with no strange looks from others -- haha. See more photos attached. Do you see some progress?

It looks great! Those strokes are gone! I look forward to seeing if the red fades more. It looks a little less red to me. Does your dr have the 532 hand piece for reds? Maybe she would use that next time to target the red.

Honestly, I don't know, Plucky. :-/ I suppose that will be a question for my next session. I only know she has the PicoSure by Cynosure, but I'm pretty clueless beyond that. I think I'm learning as I go on all of this. Is it your understanding that the 755 nm will be unable to remove the red completely? I was unable to find a doc with a PicoWay within reasonable driving distance. Hoping the PicoSure can do the job assuming she can convert to 532 nm. All this seems crazy considering the size of the area to be removed is so teeny and consists of hair strokes compared to a tattoo using the traditional gun method. Sadly, I can see how that would take a very long time to get full clearance. I'm praying I'll be done before the end of 2019.

My picosure provider told me that even the red can be broken up by the 755, but I know the 532 is an attachment to the original picosure that should target red better. But maybe since you still had brown with the strokes she was trying to get all of that color first!

Go look at my feed and you can see a question with picture I posted and the drs answer to me!

Thanks, Plucky! Learning so much as I go. I've been poking around the net for more information regarding colors of inks targeted by which systems. Interesting stuff if you like to get into it a little farther. I'll try to attach 2 graphs I found interesting (not sure of publication date) and may be helpful for others removing colorful as well as cosmetic tattoos. I think I have to attach those using another update...

How are you doing?! Any more fading of the red?!? I am scheduled for my treatment on a Friday the 24th. I fully expect them to be red afterward as my test spot is still a red/pink. Is the red very noticeable through your eyebrow hair? I am wondering if I should do just parts that go outside my eyebrows or the whole eyebrow! Thanks!
May 21, 2019
Hi Plucky! Great you have booked your treatment. I had a test spot and the ink turned red/orange, pretty much like yours! I decided to for the full eyebrow, the red is very noticeable but my eyebrow tattoo was huge, gave me an angry bird kind of look. My skin wasn’t damaged, no blisters or bleeding so I’m hoping that will continue to fade and will get to a more decent colour with the second laser treatment! I don’t use much make up, but I can go out with red looking eyebrows, so I put some powder and then brow gel and that’s it ! All I can do is to be positive and take it day by day. I have posted some photos in doctors’ question, you can check them out!

How long ago was your treatment? Has it faded any since the pictures? Thanks for responding it makes me feel a little better! I am so nervous!

Different laser systems target different colors of tattoo ink . . .

Through my journey with PicoSure laser removal of microblading, I'm learning more about the different systems available (if you can find a provider in your area) and which colors each treats. Stumbled upon two interesting graphs others may find helpful.

Must be made by Zarin as Picosure 755nm removes blues and greens the best
May 23, 2019
I had not heard of Zarin before -- reading more and see it's both a picosecond and nanosecond (Qswitch) . My doc's machine is definitely made by Cynosure. Using the 755 nm shattered the microblading strokes well but left me with red. Second treatment not much different than the first. I'm hoping a change to 523 nm will be the next step to cut the red.
