Day 6 - Photofractional

It’s day 6. No more swelling but I do have significant discoloration on my cheeks. My cheeks feel tingly in some spots. I tried to cover my face up yesterday with makeup but I think it made it look worse because of the scabby texture of my cheeks.

I have only used Cera Ve and I have been wearing spf. I am washing my face with a mild cleanser for my face.

Didn’t Expect This…

I have been a member at Juvly Aesthetics for a few years now. I typically get facials, wrinkle relaxers and have had lip fillers. I have never done any type of aggressive skin treatments in office before.

I have sun damage on my chest and face and my dermatologist recommended getting a Photofacial Laser treatment to renew my skin on unsightly brown sun spots. I booked an appointment and gave it a try.

I arrived at the office and took a skin quiz. The skin quiz was to determine my skin type (type II) so the laser could be calibrated for my treatment.

First, the laser was used as a fine end like a pencil tip and targeted some surface blood vessels. Next she changed the tip to a broad like an expo marker tip to target some brown discolored spots. The pain was a 3/10, tolerable and quick.

Last, the end was like a small rectangle piece. This hurt like HELL! Under my eyes, over my lips, I was praying it would be over soon. I could start to smell the burning of hair or skin. I was reassured that it was worth going for the extra passes with the rectangular broad end, but at this point it felt like pure torture. I have a very high pain tolerance and this was brutal.

When I left I was told I could workout like normal and go about normal activities. There would be bruising and to apply arnica. I was told to avoid scrubbing my face, apply thick cream and avoid the sun.

I got home and felt ill. My face was burning! I relaxed and skipped the gym that evening.

The next day I woke up and I could barely see out of my left eye. I sleep on my left side and I guess the tissues just swelled on that side. I looked in the mirror and was completely shocked at what I was witnessing. I had to call in sick to work and was applying ice packs all day to my swollen face. I tried to lay elevated, took Benadryl and rested.

The next day the swelling went down maybe 10%. I had to call in sick again to work. I was dependent still on the rotating ice packs on my face.

The procedure was on Tuesday and it is now Sunday morning. The swelling has gone down and is only noticeable around my jaw line. I have really bad bruising on my cheeks. I feel like I was botched? From what I see online it does not look like this is the typical result. I missed two days of work and 5 days later I still have people asking “Oh my goodness, are you ok?”

Anyone have results similar to mine? As of today I say this was NOT worth it. I hope I can look back in a few days and change my mind with beautiful glowing skin. I will update my review if this magically happens.
