I had my lapband placed 2.5 years ago. I have lost 103 pounds so far. I am at goal. I am at a normal BMI, and I am off all of my Blood Pressure Meds. I have not had any problems with my band or my experience.

My suggestion is do your research so that you will be prepared for the required lifestyle changes. The band is only a tool that will help you lose weight if you follow the rules and do the work. It has not been easy, but the journey has been well worth it! I am the healthiest I have been in years!

Hi Lolo, welcome and thanks so much for sharing your experience with us.

Congratulations on your weight loss, you look awesome and have obviously worked very hard at this! If you don't mind sharing, how was your recovery, did you have much pain and downtime? Is there any pain when filling the band?

Congratulations on your weight loss, and thank you for sharing your experience and slight complications you had. I went to my first initial consult today and I am keen to get it done but also doing more research and weighing out my pros and cons... How long did it take for you to feel normal after readjusting food habits and all again?

I had two surgeries this past year one to unbuckle my band and the second to remove the band. The second surgery was the worst. They had to create a larger incision to pull the band and port out of. I was much more bruised and sore for about 3 weeks. My appetite really didn't get back to normal until about 4 weeks after I had my band removed. It's a struggle, I won't lie. Being able to eat things I couldn't for the last 4 years is great, but I can see how easy it is to fall back into my old way of life. I am determined to try hard to stay active, and at the weight I am at for the rest of my life. Not every day will be perfect. As long as the good days outnumber the bad days, I'm okay with that

I had 6 months of diet and exercise insurance requirement before my Lapband surgery in 2010. I used that time to mentally prepare. I did tons of research on YouTube and Facebook as to what new Lapband patients can eat. I measured all my portions from day 1 post op and focused on protein first. I stayed away from carbs (bread rice pasta & potatoes). I focused on getting at least 80g protein per day and I walked at least 5 miles daily most days. I invested in a body media fitness tracker to keep me motivated the first year post op. I'm pretty sure this is why I was as successful as I was.

Also you have to realize the Lapband requires a lot of aftercare (fills and unfills). These visits require copays each time you go if your insurance covers them. It's very costly and can take up to 7 or 8 visits to get to the right fill or green zone. Good luck! It's truly one of the best things I've done for myself! Wish I would have done it much sooner even though I no longer have my band.

I'm sorry - I think I must have missed something. Did you say what complications caused you to have to have the band removed? I'm contemplating the procedure and am just trying to get word of mouth pro's and con's from people who have had the procedure. Thanks in advance...you're beautiful in your before AND after photos :)

You look great! Who did you go to? How was the first 3-4 weeks? I'm pretty much set on I want it done, and trying to see if I can get it before year end but I haven't started the process yet.

I had to have my Lapband removed in April 2015

My body was not liking the band all of last year. After numerous tests, everything came back norma,l but I was still having way too many "stuck" episodes being completely unfilled. It was decided that my surgeon would go in and Unbuckle my band in December of 2014. The plan was to remove the scar capsule around my band & unbuckle the band so my body could rest for a few months & then go back in and re-buckle the band. After that, I was still having issues eating solid protein & I decided to remove my band to prevent further complications & more surgery. I realize that I had learned enough in the past 4 years with the help of my band. It was me who did the majority of the work, so I made the choice to go at it alone & see if I can maintain without my Lapband. My band came out in April 2015. My surgeon said it was the best choice because my body had built up more scar tissue around the band which was causing all of my issues. I was lucky that I got to goal before I had issues and had to have my band removed. I was unlucky to be one of the few who have scarring issues and my body no longer liked the foreign object in my body.

I'm in the process of having my port removed. The band is ok but the port has infection around it. I'm pissed. Did a Tummy Tuck after getting down to 145 from 298. But the PS botched me up. I have gained 50 pounds. Due to the stress of large hole in my abdomen after the TT. And MRSA. Continue to stay on track the weight comes back fast. GOD Bless. You Look amazing.

I'm on the fence about having a tummy tuck. It makes me very nervous but that is really the only issue I have left with my body is the extra skin on my belly area. I realize how quickly weight can come back on. It is going to be a lifelong struggle to stay active and try to keep the weight off. It's so easy to fall back into the bad habits! I've decided I won't be perfect everyday, but if my good days outnumber the bad ones I am okay with that ❤️
