I'm 54yo and didn't need any major dental work for 2decades. I have had several fillings redone in my 30s and kept up strict dental hygiene of flossing, brushing 3times a day with bi-annual cleaning. When I moved last year to AZ, I needed a new dentist for routine cleaning & check up. The dentist pointed out that one of my back bottom molar has a tiny hole that may need attention. Rather than redo the large filling, she recommended a crown. This would help avoid a root canal since redoing the filling may weaken the tooth.

Long story short, I followed her recommendation.

I wore a temporary crown for 10 days but didn't wear my retainers at bedtime bcuz the t-crown may pop off. BTW, taking Motrim for several days-week will help prevent pain, swelling & inflamation which will drastically reduce chances of root canal...this dentist didn't tell me that!

Immediately after my new crown was inserted, my bite felt off but she said let's give it some time to set in & we can adjust it again. That night, I wore my retainers and was presently surprised that my bite felt 90% better the following morning.

My teeth must've shifted slightly during the 12days when I wore the t-crown...the new crown was made prior to the shift.

Fast fwd, 3 weeks, my bite feels ok but chewing still feels a slight grinding with the new crown:(. No pain or sensitivity but concern that the top tooth will continually feel pressure with chewing.

I'm planning to return to the dentist for an adjustment but fear she will shave the top tooth again. I'm afraid shaving the top tooth will develope an issue when it was fine before the crown procedure. On top of that, the dentist mentioned my needing "one day" a crown on that top tooth bcuz it has a large filling too. She said that after the new bottom crown was put in...I can't help feeling this is just the start.

Five years ago, my husband had two crowns put in on the top & bottom. His dentist in CA was a perfectionist in doing a lot of X-rays to make sure crowns fit perfectly ...and they did without any adjustments!

I may fly back to CA for my next crown!

Final words: if it ain't broken, don't fix it!
