I'm 24 and currently wearing a 34JJ. I've been trying to get a reduction since I was 18, and I finally have one scheduled for the 6th of January. As the holidays come to an end and the distractions ease away, I am getting more and more nervous. Can anyone tell me what to expect or what things I need to do to prepare for this procedure?

Welcome to the community.   You are going to love the results and feel so much better once this is done.  Take a look at My Notebooks and you will find several helpful pre and post op lists.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Lucky you! Good for you getting this done so young. I waited way toooo long. I had my surgery on Dec 5th. Honestly there was very little pain and I was able to just take Xstrength Tylenol every 4 hours I was given pain pills but was afraid they would make me throw up. I did not have drains. Phew! I saw my incisions for the first time on day 3. Omg I was shocked. However with that being said every single day you will see a huge improvement. It's pretty amazing. I think the hardest part for me has been sleeping on my back. I'm a side sleeper. I've been sleeping in a recliner and that helps. And NO lifting!!! Go buy yourself a few bras that close in the front. You will need these right away since you will be wearing them 24/7. I bought Fruit of the Loom from Walmart. $8.00. I've never bought a $8 bra! lol. Good luck. You will do great!!! The best is yet to come and you have all of us here to help you through it!
December 29, 2016
Thank you! I am a side sleeper too so I'm a little nervous about that. How do you know what size to get when you buy the sports bras? Should I be getting one or two sizes bigger than what my surgeon expects me to be after surgery?
December 29, 2016
Buy them now and try them on and get the one that's most comfortable. They don't come in cup sizes. In fact buy a few sizes and keep
the receipt. I wish i had done that before.

Also---a few people here have suggested to try to start sleeping on your back now to
find a comfortable position. I miss sleeping on my side!!! Wahhhhh. lol

I had my reduction on 11/16/16 and I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did! I was a 38H and am now a 36C. I love my small perky boobs. Have some liquid B12 on hand for after surgery. After about a week the nerves start to regrow and it can be painful but if you supplement w b12 it takes this little pains away. Prop up your arms w a pillow on each side it'll make back sleeping much easier, I'm also a side sleeper. The pain from surgery isn't fun but the relief to your shoulders/neck/back and the headaches is immediate. It's weird to describe. You'll do just fine and be so much happier.
January 2, 2017
Thank you so much!! I'll look into the B12 for sure.

Hope your surgery went well....wish I had seen this before your procedure. Let me know how it went. I'd be happy to assist you with any post op questions. Happy healing!

I am not scheduled yet because it's been sent to insurance, I had a mammogram in about Oct... Now they want another? I told them I have had a ton of imaging and I would do it, but don't get what it has to do with a reduction and my extra breast tissue tumor that can't be determined if it is liposcarcoma or just a lipoma with mammogram or the ultrasound I had too, but it took until Jan to see the plastic surgery doc with the tumor surgeon in between too...

Anyways my questions... All about recovery! I take care of my disabled dad alone, so I know I need to do every bit of shopping and cooking I can so he can heat stuff up so we both can eat. Other than that since I basically have no help - do I need to try to fly up my dad's ex-wife's daughter - aka my sort of sister (our family says sister, hers doesn't, the law doesn't), but my concern is the male doc says the pain is no biggy, the pain is "just skin pain," but I am not inclined to believe lady pain info from a guy, who even though he is the associate professor at university hospital, won't have breast that need a big reduction and lift, so I have a hard time trusting his "opinion" about pain and what will be fine to do after and what will suck. Any advice would be appreciated a ton! I hope it will help my back, I know it won't make my unruptured discs better, but I hope less weight and better posture (not sitting forward to set my boobs on tables and stuff), but I hope it helps the neck, shoulder, and upper back pain! I am also concerned about swelling since I am at "much higher than normal risk for nipple loss" I know I can't use ice since it decreases blood flow and unfortunately I can't take NSAIDS like motrin, ibuprofen, alive and all that. But any tips or tricks, advice for getting through the pain - especially with the approved hospital being 2 hours away...one way and only if there is no traffic...

Thanks so much for your time!

My reminder to myself

mass24
This is my reminder to myself for why I'm doing this. With only a week left to go I am starting to worry. What if something goes wrong? What if I feel fat after surgery because my boobs don't hide my stomach anymore? What if I lose my identity not having the thing that has defined me most for the last 10 years?

Dear Me,

Do you remember the migraines? Do you remember having to take pain killers every day to help your back and head? Do you remember the heat rashes that made it feel like someone was trying to slice your boob off from underneath? That's why. Do you remember the underwires that stabbed you for months because you couldn't afford another $100 bra? Or how about the times you weren't able to go swimming with people because you couldn't find a swimsuit that fit you? Do you remember crying because it was impossible to find a dress that fit your boobs to wear to your sisters wedding? That's why?

This is good. You will feel better. Trust me.

Yes yes YES!!! That is exactly why you are doing this! I experienced everything you have along with constantly rubbing my boobs against co workers everytime I walked passed them. UGH. My only regret is not doing it sooner! You will be amazed at how great you feel in no time! Good luck and congrats on making a great decision!
December 31, 2016
Thank you. I can't wait to feel the change. Doc says he expects 5lbs off my chest
December 30, 2016
Good luck...Mine is January 11/17!
December 31, 2016
Thank you! Good luck to you too
December 30, 2016
Good luck! Mine is January 4th and I am feeling the SAME. back and forth about needing it, but ultimately knowing it will make my life so much easier. It is so scary thinking of all the things that could go wrong and the post-op anxiety/depression people comment about, but I think that we have to remember all those negative things about NOT doing it and realize this is for the best!!!
December 31, 2016
Oh good luck to you too!! I feel like as the days get closer I get more nervous and more hyped. I'm split 50/50
December 31, 2016
I'm with you, very hesitant one minute and super pumped the next. I'm dreading seeing them for the first time and how it'll feel. I know they will heal and look better but i'm sure that will be the first (and hopefully only) time when i question my decision afterwards!

Good luck!!! Mine is January 6th. I am feeling the some. One thing I have to do remained my surgeon to remove as much as she safely can!!!
January 2, 2017
Wow, I'm scheduled January 10th & am starting to feel the same mixture of nervous & hyped. My husband has a terrible cold and I'm staying as far away from him as possible; as well as constantly washing my hands! I don't want to get canceled because I have a cold or scratchy throat! I even had a nightmare that my surgery got canceled because I caught the stomach virus that has been circulating around my workplace :-( Probably all worry for nothing; everything will go fine as planned.

Congratulations to you all, I had my surgery Nov.30th and I am very pleased my PS was amazing and my results were well worth it unfortunately I never had the thought to back out I actually wanted to do it sooner than I did. But the recovery process is amazing I never thought I would heal this quickly I did have drains but no problems with them my mom came to help my husband take care of me,I didn't look at my breasts until about a week and half late, now I was nervous about that because no matter how many pictures you look at on here or anywhere else it still doesn't fully prepare you but again it's so worth it. This site was very helpful to me but I also took my PS and her staff advice because everyone is different my drains weren't in long and that made it alot easier,my incision didn't go far back so by week 2 into 3 I was able to sleep half on my side. I did buy the front closure bras from Walmart and they are great for the price I did find today a post surgical bra from Lane Bryant. But Good luck oh and Rest,Rest and more rest it is very essential to your recovery! See ya on the other side

Wow! That's great! Don't forget to keep taking pictures so you can compare them as they heak

It happened

I'm on the other side finally! I went in at 11:45a, got IV in and marked up, and questions asked. Went into surgery at 2, woke up fully at 6p. Kept telling my fiancé that my [RS bleep] hurt ????. I slept through the ride home and very on and off for the first 3 hours. Was definitely in a bit of pain, but oddly enough, it's now 1am and I don't hurt at all. Just itch all over my body. The bandages are suuuuuper tight. It actually feels like I'm in a steel breast plate or something. I haven't seen them at all yet but I noticed my boob pain was like 6in higher than usual hahah. Small amount of bleeding so far and im only able to move very minimally with the pain, but overall I feel pretty good. Only threw up when I got up to dress, and moving from the car to the couch. The nausea hasn't been back since then. Now I'm just hot, doc told family to keep the house at 80, apparently keeping them warm helps?

I'm gonna attach a before pic and hopefully get an after pic when bandages come off on Monday.

Congrats!!:) hope you are doing well.
January 7, 2017
Wooo Hooo!! Congrats on being on the other side! If your whole body is itchy it might be from the pain med your taking or what they gave you in the hospital. I was able to handle the pain with extra strength Tylenol every four hours. Just relax and do NOTHING!! Worse thing you can do now is over due. Nothing but good things ahead! Congrats! (•) (•). LOL
