Just booked in for my procedure and feeling quite anxious after living with my 320 cc silicone implants for almost 30 years. I had them done in 1989 when the “new” textured implants came out replacing the original “smooth” ones. My first husband was a “boob” man so naturally I felt I was inadequate with 34B breasts. For many years, after my divorce I wavered in going smaller or just replacing them. I’m 5’4”and my weight can fluctuate between 110 - 120 lbs. but there not broke so....until, the day it did happen. One had became encapsulated a few years ago but had a surgeon break the capsule and they were fine and then the last year or so they started to harden on both sides and most recently in the last few months I started to feel what I thought was scar tissue (only on the right side) and it kept getting larger and began feeling more and more uncomfortable and like it had definitely ruptured or was there something else going on...I had been in a head-on car accident a few years previously and that may have caused an initial slow leak that went on for some time undetected.
I have a friend who is a oncologist that specializes in breast cancer so I took a deep breath and called her, she immediately said come in and let me check it out. She did an ultrasound and also recommended a mammogram. In her opinion it appeared it had ruptured and also looked like there is a cyst but she didn’t see what she felt was any other kind of mass.
I made an appointment with a plastic surgeon she recommended and met with him a couple of days ago. He has recommended due to the size of the scar tissue, etc that it would be best to do the surgery in 2 stages, if I decide to have some reconstruction (Lift) or perhaps putting in another set of implants. I must say I’m a bit nervous as I can’t remember my body looking much different but this is more importantly about my health and I don’t know how I will feel when they are out. But on a lighter note, my current husband LOVES small boobs! ??

Did you have an MRI? Mine are 34 years old implants above the muscle. (Half my age) Scheduled for a Enbloc (Total Capsulectomy/that is where the PS carefully disects the whole capsule with implant as one.) This helps prevent contamination of potential bacteria/fungus from getting in to the body. I have done several years of research and what I have learned is if a PS says they will remove them seperately it is usually because the Enbloc takes precision and many PS are not skilled in that area. What I tell you here, I 'm not pulling out of my hat to sound smart....I'm telling you what the last two of five surgeons said to me on consultations. The first three questions me when I asked about drains. That is sooo important....in most complex cases when there is rupture and/or capsular contracture and not simple revisions. Mammograms are not considered a diagnostic test that will definitively show what is going on in the cases where suspected rupture could be present. It shows soft tissue and us very telling if what's going on. Mammograms are what causes ruptures in many cases. Speaking from my own exoerience. Rocks can not be compressed...mine are Baker IV capsule . Did your PS say what level you have? I can not imagine getting a mammogram with having capsules. Although I actually did come to think of it, when the were not too hard years ago....and that set it all in motion. Please do some research, if you have not already. You can ask questions here on RealSelf ask "the doctor". If I were you taking implants and capsules out in two stages.....after 29 years. Is your PS thinking she could use the capsule to make a lift easier. Geez. Just ask the docs here on RealSelf that question. You will get several dictirs replying, which is good. It's your body so don't go with what she said, just because she says fir the best results if you decide on a lift. And what happens if she keaves the capsule in on the first surgery and later on you think, no I don't want a lift. The capsules left inside you, not good and could potentially cause big problems. You indicated that he said there is a lot of scar tissue. You really need an MRI. I know yours edible 23 but please question...don't be complacent. Afterall you are concerned about your health. Your health is most important to you than any one of the doctors. Forgive me if I have overstepped here. Knowledge is power....I was armed with information when I started consulting with PS. Some look annoyed that I questioned. I simply said would you have questions if you were going to have a surgery? We pay them for a service, they are not doing this for free. I'm so grateful for this site....in the last three years have learned so much from these brave ladies who have shared their stories. Btw...I'm scheduled for next month.... Best of luck & prayers.

Do you go ahead with it? I'm explanting next Wednesday. I also have the textured silicone implants. Both of mine are encapsulated and the left one is ruptured.
