Eclipse Micropen Micro-needling for Acne Scars. Phoenix, AZ

I had my first Micro-needling treatment on...

$300
I had my first Micro-needling treatment on Wednesday for my old acne scars. The treatment costs $300/session and I'd most likely need 2-3 treatments. My appointment was probably an hour or so. The nurse first applied numbing cream for about 20 minutes prior to starting the actual micro-needling. The PA-C started with the most painful area first--the forehead--and had a lower setting for that area. She did increase to the highest setting on my cheeks where my acne scarring was the worst, and she went over those areas 3 times. I am not going to lie this procedure was pretty painful, but I guess I tolerated it because I wanted the maximum benefit. I was pretty red and bruised after...felt like a bad sunburn. I didn't take anything for the discomfort. My face felt very warm and swollen. Washing it with a gentle cleanser felt like sand paper going over my face!! Day 2: My face looked worse...I was so swollen, literally looked like I was beat up. There was still a lot of discomfort with washing my face and even applying moisturizer stung. I was a bit itchy also. I couldn't leave the house looking like this!! Day 3: My face still looked bruised, red, dry and quite swollen and now it itched so bad...it was really hard not to scratch it (which I was advised not to). Day 4: My face is still swollen but not as bad as the previous days. Redness is starting to go away. The itching and dryness is the worst!! I'm waiting for the swelling to go down before I decide if the treatment was worth it, but I must say I do already see improvement. My next appointment is scheduled in May. I'm beyond ready to get rid of my acne scars!!

Is there a certain amount of time u had to wait before getting the next treatment? And is the first day u got it the worse looking? Like going out in public would people stare? Lol. I want this so bad but im nervous!
March 30, 2015
I would say Day 2 was the worst as far as looks goes because I was super swollen, bruised, and still very red. With that said, I did go out that day to run an errand ...but only because I didn't have a choice!! Yes people would stare but no one asked any questions. You have to wait 6 weeks before getting another treatment. So my next is scheduled for May.

I'm anxious to hear from you 6 months after the last treatment when the swelling goes down to see what you think of your results. I'm considering this treatment but can't find any long term results on line. Tried many things and although it's always great at first my experience has always been that once the swelling is gone it's the same ole' same ole'. Please keep us posted.

And that's exactly what I am wondering as well! The scars looked perfect when I had the swelling but now I can see I still have scarring. But I will say I think it looks better. I will take pictures in a copy of days and post them.

Did it cause any hyperpigmentation? Did u do your microneedling with RPR (where they use your blood)? Thx
March 31, 2015
No I didn't do the PRP with the needling...only the needling. My face is still red so I don't think I've had Hyperpigmentation. But once the redness goes away I will update you.

Thanks. Did you have to do any special preparation before and after...like use hydroquinone (a bleaching agent). How were told to treat your skin?
April 1, 2015
Before the treatment, I don't recall any preparations. After I did use a gentle baby face cleanser by aquafor (was used on my baby) and a PM moisturizer by CeraVe (which I didn't like ...but I would try a different one just not the PM one).
April 1, 2015
All they said was to use a gentle cleanser, lots and lots of moisturizer, and protect your skin with sun screen and avoid sun the first few days as much as possible.

I don't remember if it was the am or pm cerave moisturizer I tried and hated it. It broke me out. I do like cerave facial wash for dry skin which I use.

Yeah, I was surprised I didn't like it. They have a jar of lotion ($16 or so) I've tried before for my dry hands and I loved it!

How deep were the needling?
April 1, 2015
On my scarring, I know it was on the highest setting the Micropen goes to..which I want to say is 3.0 mm but I could be wrong. And she did at least 3 passes.

1 week Post 1st Micro-needling Treatment

mommy320
I am now 1 week post treatment. My skin is still a bit red not sure if you can see this in the picture or not, but it's definitely there...and my skin is still super dry and still a bit itchy. I didn't think I'd still have these symptoms this long. As far as the results, I can tell on one side of my face got better results than on the other side. So I'm a bit disappointed in that, but I knew I'd need more treatments....I will stay positive because it takes weeks to months for collagen to regenerate so I should see more improvement with time. My scarring looked great with all the swelling....if only it stayed that way!! :( But I knew it would change so I was prepared for it. And I will say that I did notice with makeup my face looks a lot more smooth than before! So I'm happy with that as well. I'm just ready for the day I don't need any makeup at all. I'm back to using my old cleanser and moisturizer and it no longer stings when I put it on. Yay!! I'm debating on whether to get the CO2 laser in May and follow up the a micro needling treatment in June and July. I do like the results of the needling ...even if it's a small improvement. But I think I still need to get rid of as many layers of skin with the laser to make the scars look less deep and then go back to the needling.

My after pic looks like yours, super red and swollen. My doc said redness gone in one day but im guessing that's not true based on yours. How long till your redness was completely gone?
February 12, 2016
I had CO2 laser treatment and ended up with orange peel texture. This was in 1999 and micro needling was not an option. If I could do it again I would choose less invasive methods. Then if you ended up doing CO2 laser later, they might not have to go so deep and reduce the potential horrible side effects.

Thanks

Can you update us? Did the results stay? Thanks for the review!

I would say with just one treatment probably 10% improvement, but for scarring they recommend 6 treatments. So the results (after swelling does down) aren't dramatic, but I'll take any improvement even minor. I'm planning to do more in the future, so I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll post more pics after the 2 month mark...they say it takes 6 months to see final results.

It definitely looks better:)
