Banana Rolls!

ORIGINAL POST

Hoping to reduce the appearance of my banana rolls...

Hoping to reduce the appearance of my banana rolls and saddlebags.

Procedure was a little uncomfortable but was bearable. I was able to withstand the heat at the highest level (1.4). No pain after just slightly sore. Was told to massage out any nodules that firm over the next few weeks.
Will now wait the 12 weeks to see if there is any improvement. I will post follow up pictures and welcome any questions.

I hope you post pictures in a few months. We have the same exact problem. I am a size 0 and weigh 125 lbs. I'm almost pure muscle with the exception of my banana roll/inner/outer thighs. It is so frustrating because I can never change this area. I'm waiting to see if sculpsure is worth it or not. I really hope you get the results you desire. Thank you for posting.

The one thing I have read in general when you want to reduce your banana roll is that it can end up making your glutes drop. Did they happen to mention this to you as a possible side effect? I know this can happen with lipo, but I haven't heard this happening with sculpsure or cool sculpting.
April 25, 2017
I did ask and PS said drooping was not a concern with sculpsure with the slow and subtle fat reduction.
April 26, 2017
How much would you be willing to spend? I think that's the biggest "worth it". I would say, that on average, you need to budget for 2 treatments to got obvious results. If you are already pure muscle, it might take less. But in your mind, if and when you go in for a consultation, think "2". If you can't commit to the cost of 2, I wouldn't bother...everybody can be "happier". If 1 treatment works, 2 will make you even happier.
April 26, 2017
Oh, that is good to know. I have not even had a consult yet because I'm waiting to see more results to see if it is worth it or not. I am sure I'll need 2 to 3 treatments. I wonder if you will truly get a 50% to 75% decrease in fat removal if you do multiple treatments. I'd rather gamble on sculpsure vs lipo. I know too many people that had lips and the results were not good at all. Sculpsure seems more "natural" if you will. Good luck to you! Thank you for sharing.

I don't think Sculpsure is actually health Canada approved for treating that area. I would be careful. Why wouldn't you choose the Coolsculpt? I think it's the only one that is designed for that and has been around for over a decade
May 5, 2017
That's not true. SculpSure has many off label uses. As long as the laser can have direct contact to the skin, you should be good to go. Personally, we have done arms, thighs and man-boobs.
May 11, 2017
I'm only interested in SculpSure because I don't have a lot of fat. With Coolsculpting, the fat gets sucked into the machine. Though, from my understanding, if you don't have enough fat to fit in, it won't work properly. I also heard that Coolsculpting is like a hand grenade where it destroys fat cells and other unnecessary surrounding areas which can also lead to numbness. Though, Sculpsure is more like a sniper where it just destroys the fat and leaves everything else alone. I could be wrong, though, which is why I am still on the sidelines waiting for more data to come out.
May 11, 2017
You are dead on! SculpSure will not cause this numbness and weird skin pain after the procedure. The SculpSure laser will bypass your skin without harming it, and directly target the fat cells (heating them up and letting them die). Very much like how you can microwave your food - your food gets hot, but your container doesn't (this is analogous to SculpSure). Versus say an oven which heats up both the container as well as the food (this is analogous to CoolSculpting). The fundamental mechanism between SculpSure and CoolSculpting is the same, namely to raise or drop the temperature beyond which the fat cells will die. The results are very similar. The experience is vastly different.

Thank you for the explanation. It totally makes sense. Do you forsee Sculpsure replacing Coolsculpting? I just don't understand why anyone would want to choose Coolsculpting over Sculpsure. Sculpsure "seems" like a game changer to me.

Overall, I have very defined arms, back, stomach, and am very curvy, but my Achilles' heel is my banana roll and inner thighs. Ugh! I was an athlete growing up and am still one (roughly 13-15% body fat). It doesn't matter what I do, I just can't lose the fat in those two main areas. I'm nervous about trading a troubled area for an area I really like. I hear that you can lose body fat in the designated area, but if you gain weight later on, the fat can show up somewhere else. Thus, someone who gets lipo lets say in the thigh area can end up with Popeye arms. This really terrifies me! I feel like I should just leave everything alone and be grateful with what I have. These are first world problems and so ridiculous when you think about it, but I'd still like to get rid of the unwanted fat!
May 11, 2017
Absolutely. SculpSure is a big time game changer! I don't understand why anybody would choose CoolSculpting either. The patient experience is day and night.
Here's the way I tell patients. Physical health is critical. Emotional health is just as critical. I believe in living healthy and feeling great. If living healthy is already your lifestyle (no yo-yo diets/weight loss), then you won't have any of the problems you mention. SculpSure is perfect for sculpting, which is what you really want. I don't think you will get Popeye underarms (because that's where the fat hangs out on the arm). If you all of a sudden increase your body fat to 25-30%, you will get a distribution of fat around your body. How your body distributes it will be entirely up to your body. It might be evenly distributed. It might be 60% in thigh/banana rolls, and 40% everywhere else. It's really hard to say. Since living healthy is your HABIT, I just don't see that happening. IF it happens, you can always use SculpSure to sculpt again! I don't see it as terrifying.

Thank you so much for your response. I typically stay within 5-8 lbs of my main weight. I do not fluctuate a lot. Working out and eating healthy is part of my life. May I ask you another question? I've heard of people getthing their banana roll liposuctioned and then the buttocks can drop because it lost it's support structure. Is this a possibility with sculpsure? Also, can you get tightening and lifting around the areas that you treat? I understand you can get a 25% reduction of fat loss in that area, though, does that mean if you do 3 treatments you can seriously get a 75% reduction? Do doctors ever refund a patients money if they don't get results. It just seems like a gamble with this technology. Though, I like the fact that you don't go under the knife.

I cannot support with evidence or my own experience regarding the fat from the buttocks dropping down. In our patients who need both upper and lower abs done (and they choose to do their lower abs first and do the upper abs at a later time), I have not seen such an effect of noticeable amount of fat migrating from one area to another. But this is just my own observation over a short period of time. Also keep in mind that SculpSure is not super invasive like liposuction and does not create such a "void" which can "assist" fat migration.

You will get some limited tightening from SculpSure. If the area has tight skin to begin with (or some light loose skin), SculpSure can tighten it. It's not a very well documented or studied effect, but it's there. If you browse my photos or other photos on the site, you can easily spot it.

Regarding the 25% fat reduction. One the first treatment, you'll get up to 25% of what you started with. On the second treatment, you'll get up to 25% of what's left. And similarly for the 3rd treatment. Have a frank discussion with your provider what you are expecting and how much it will cost you to achieve those results. The science and evidence is very clear. There are variations due to body response.

I don't see SculpSure as a gamble at all. However, you have to have realistic expectations and understand the limitations of this procedure (as compared to traditional surgery). Most, if not all, of the negative reviews is caused by not getting a full understanding of the procedure and aligning the expected results and the financial expenses needed to achieve such results. SculpSure is an impressive breakthrough for non-invasive fat reduction, with a superior patient experience.

Reading this conversation and I'm a bit taken back. Dr. Liu, doesn't CoolSculpting work by means of apoptosis, whereas Sculpsure works by means of necrosis? I've been to make aesthetic seminars and workshops and the numbing from CS is just a temporary sensation from the cold... I don't think it's very wise to sway patients with false facts...

If you have the option of using sculpsure (3-4 treatments) vs. lipo, which one would give you the best result in the end? I'm sure most would say lipo, but I'm wondering if sculpsure is the way to go since you more than likely will not have the possibility of unevenness and the scars left behind. I went to a bodybuilding competition and was surprised that I could tell who had lipo done on their legs/stomach. I could see the slits on the legs and bumpiness. What are your thoughts, Dr. Liu?
June 26, 2017
3-4 treatments will cost you in the neighborhood of a single lipo suction treatment, give and take. Of course, the minuses of lipo is the pain, recovery time, and potential complications with lipo as you have described. If you are a bodybuilder, I would never recommend lipo. As you say, you can easily spot the people who have had it done (regardless if it's a long time ago or closer to the competition). I have had personal trainers come in and a single treatment works like magic. SculpSure will give you a much more even and natural effect. You get this "feathering" effect where the benefits of the treatment extends beyond the treatment area, up to a few centimeter, for an even and smooth look. That "abrupt" transition between the treated and untreated area is visible. Plus, for many people, they get some minor skin tightening....again, aids with the natural look. So for a bodybuilder, the answer is straightforward....sculpsure. Plus you can go right back to working those areas in the gym immediately after treatment.

My opinion is you'll need 2-3 treatments of the area to see the more dramatic effects you desire. I've had a few patients come in who have a little of extra fat around the panty line. With sexy panties and tight pants, it really does squeeze the fat around the outer thigh and hips. 2 treatments and it smoothed out that transition substantially...she is going for a third treatment. Because fat collects there (and potentially some fat migration due to gravity), that area is very stubborn to treat. You should discuss your results with your physician and understand your options.

Hi, any update? I am wanting to get this done on the back of my thighs. I have less defined rolls than yours.
June 22, 2017
No results. Am disappointed but knew it was a long shot and knew that a second treatment would be needed to yield any real results.

Hi....any noticeable changes almost two months out? I'm interested in getting my lower back done.
