Healing Time-
- The rhinoplasty and septoplasty are a very easy recovery
- The endoscopic sinus surgery requires multiple appointments to ensure there is not scar tissue forming. This is preventative to ensure the surgery works long term

Results:
- Rhinoplasty = 5/5
I did not share with anyone outside of my family that I was having surgery. I was in a wedding two weeks later, and the swelling and changes were such that no one asked knew I had surgery. I had slight swelling, and the results were better than I could have expected.
- Septoplasty = 5/5
I can breathe 80% better than I could before the surgery. I have allergies so some days are better than others due to swelling.
- Endoscopic Sinus Surgery = 5/5
my migraine headaches reduced by 90% or more. I used to have to take medicine every day and occasionally receive shots when they were unbearable. I have had one since surgery versus two to four a month prior to surgery.

I first visited Dr. Friedman in December 2014 for a consultation regarding a sinus issue and a cosmetic issue with my nose. I was very weary of getting plastic surgery to correct my nose because I broke it several years earlier, and the issue was subtle. As soon as I walked in the door of the office, my experience was exemplary. Dr. Friedman put the health and medical issues as the primary focus of the visit and then discusses the cosmetic element. This was exactly what I was looking for in a surgeon. After meeting for 30-40 minutes to talk about my background and what I was looking for in a surgery, I was taken to another room for imaging and then Dr. Friedman, and I sat 1:1 to review what the potential changes to my nose would like to look after surgery. I left the appointment confident in his qualifications.

I met with 15 doctors betweenI metI met with 15 doctors between met with 15 doctors between 2014-2016 to discuss my case and after all the meetings, I came back to Dr. Friedman for surgery. I went in for a consultation, met with a senior-level Esthetician for a skin peel to ensure my skin was prepared to heal after surgery, and then it was time for the big day.

Before surgery, Dr. Friedman gives you the option of using a homeopathic remedy that consists of a vitamin and a gel that prevents bruising. I 100% recommend this - my bruising was minimal to none. My father-in-law is a doctor and now uses this on his elderly patients for bruising.

The surgery went off without an issue, as the hospital (UPenn) and the nurses are some of the best in class. Unfortunately, the two days later, I had an infection scare and was taken to a local hospital for examination. Not only did Dr. Friedman's talk to a number of doctors at the hospital (I was not local to the UPenn area at the time), but he also texted back and forth with my fiancé to ensure that everyone was on the same page. This continued as I healed and was released from the hospital the next day.

The healing process is extensive, but with the help of Dr. Friedman's hands-on care and realistic healing expectations, it felt like someone held my hand the entire way. I saw Dr. Friedman a number of times while I was healing for postoperative appointments and help with ensuring my sinuses were correctly opened after surgery. I have 90-95% fewer headaches. My nose job is subtle and exactly what I asked for, and I have regained my sense of smell back. This is all within two months of surgery.

Thank you for sharing your experience in such detail -- glad to hear everything went so well. What are your best pre/post-op tips to help others prepare for their surgery?

Stay out of the sun before your surgery. Postoperatively, I used arnica to reduce bruising and it worked very well. I also used saline rinses and have continued to do so religiously for the last 6 months. I no longer need migraine medicine, get sick less frequently and overall have a much better quality of life. Keeping the nose clean after surgery is the most important thing. Good luck!
