3 weeks later...

Had a follow-up with the PS – he’s pleased with how I’m healing and reminded me we need to give it 3 months before we really see the final results. He cleared me to workout but warned me to take it easy and expect things to look red and irritated if I do a hard workout. I scheduled my next appointment for end of Sept. I’ll post my dr review then (when I feel like I have a final result to review) but if you live near by and want to know more send me a private message. Still under his recommendation – no ice, no heat, no massage.

Eye Bags vs Eye Wrinkles
I’ve seen other members mention this after their surgeries but wow if you look at my befores and afters when I’m smiling you can really see a difference in wrinkles in the skin under the eye. It freaked me out at first but the more I look at faces (and trust me you get obsessed with looking at eyes if you go through this) the more I’m realizing this is normal! I’d much rather deal with the wrinkles than the bags! I’m hoping the skin will shrink back a bit still now that the swelling is down I’ve also changed up my skin-care routine a bit to include more moisturizing wrinkle-targeting eye creams.

So don’t expect the laser to erase these, although maybe it would have been worse had I not had the laser? Or maybe it was just such a light pass of the laser? I think I would have had to have an external incision on the lower lash line with a “skin pinch” to make a big difference there.

When I was more swollen and I couldn’t see the wrinkles I didn’t really like that “full” “feline” look I felt like I had so I have to remind myself of that when I start to get nervous about the wrinkles. My troughs are coming back (I guess that’s what you call them). PS said we can always smooth those out with a bit of filler if I still hate it in 6 onths but honestly I think I’ll get used to them…just want to give it a lot of time to heal before I make any more changes!

Working out
I’m not doing crazy cardio yet but have done a couple of weight and pilate’s style workouts. There is a lingering tenderness around my cheeks and under-eye that I can really feel if I lay flat on my back for too long or try to do anything where my head is lower than my core so no downward dog for me! I’d like to walk more but need to wait for a break in the heat! I think this is more related to the fat-graft than the eye bag removal.

Makeup
Bruising is mostly gone and I’ve been mainly sticking to my Bare minerals powder. It takes me ¼ of the time to deal with my undereye area, just a bit of sunblock, concealer and the powder – I love it! Uppers are still a little numb and that + new eye lid shape has really thrown me off with makeup but I’m enjoying experimenting!

Everyday I’m getting more comfortable and confident with showing my face. It’s like right now I can’t be totally excited about not having bags because I’m too concerned that I look “different” to people that know me or still swollen. I’m sure in a week or so I’ll be over that and then I’ll really get to enjoy the results!

2 week post update

Well I’ll be…

Two weeks post – assuming no complications it seems you can pass for next to normal!

I mentioned before that the PS said as far as recovery time by 2 weeks I’d be recovered enough to be back out in public with makeup and I put about as much faith in that estimate as I do with a home remodel project one. Well Ladies and Gentlemen last night I had to “eat my words” and did so in the form of delicious pasta at a favorite restaurant without a care in the world. – Oh and yes I’m back on the gluten (and wine for that matter) that whole –gluten-free lasted all of 1 week before surgery…I may try it again if I feel like I have some lingering inflammation.

Current status – with my usual (mineral-based) makeup on I feel pretty normal, I’m able to easily hide the bruising and scars and have no problem being out and about in public. Right side still seems to be taking longer to get back to normal, darker scar on lid small bag or swelling under that eye and the fat graft on that cheekbone is still harder and more prominent. Under eye area is a bit red and blotchy with maybe some hyper pigmentation developing, easily hidden with makeup. All things I’ll discuss at my next appointment of course.

During the course of any day how I look changes especially how much redness and blotchiness of the skin. I’m sticking to the Arnica and Bromelain supplements with some Turmeric and still on the PS vitamins. I have not tried Arnica gel on my skin, no ice or heat on eyes and no scar-fade stuff. I’m waiting to talk to the doc about that first. Overall it only takes one side-by-side photo for me to put things back into perspective and keep my spirits up that this is the right thing and that I’m early on in healing still. I think this is just going to be how things are the next couple of weeks with the ebb and flow of healing and irritation. Must not get discouraged or depressed!

I’m hoping for clearance to workout at my next appointment which will present another set of concerns: Will he tell me I can go back to my usual routine, will I look swollen red and irritated around the eyes after each workout, will I have to wear makeup at the gym? This was something I was really curious about but didn’t see a lot of discussion on here prior to my surgery so I’ll be sure to share how it goes.

Oh one more thing – I tried out mascara last night and let me just say, Givenchy’s Phenonen'Eyes Mascara is the bees knees for me right now! It has a small little ball applicator brush which allows me to be much more precise on my fragile little lids and lashes!

I’ll keep you posted, thanks for all the replies and encouragement!

Still Healing

I don’t want to mislead you – there is still some bruising underneath all that makeup. Here are some photos from this morning 12 days post with just moisturizer on and in natural light. You can see the yellow under my eyes and the unevenness especially when I smile. The right eye has seemed to heal a little slower than the left from the beginning so the fact that it is a little puffier doesn’t bother me…YET. The wrinkles when I smile, I’m fine with that! To me that is what normal peoples’ eyes do and I’d much rather deal with that as I age instead of fatty bags protruding more and more. I feel like my poor lashes have taken a beating. I don’t know if the shape of my eye means they just feel shorter to me when I try to curl them but I think they are actually shorter. Will definitely try Latisse again in the future (I’ve had success with it in the back but stopped when I started to seriously consider this surgery) but not anytime soon. Also, didn’t mention this before because I think plenty of people discuss it but I do have some numbness on my upper lid but feeling has been coming back slowly so not concerned.

Today I finally feel good enough that I actually want to go workout but was advised by the nurse to not do anything high-cardio until after my next check-up so may try some arm work and ab work at home if I feel ambitious. It is nice to start to feel back to normal-ish!
