WORTH IT$8,000
Since the age of 15, in 1967, when my breasts developed to an enormous size of 38Ds, I always felt shame and always wished they were smaller. I felt held back by this physical and mental burden on my chest in so many ways. I was self-conscious, embarrassed by rude remarks by males; it made it harder to run and engage in sports; I couldn't comfortably wear a bathing suit or the stylish tops the other girls were wearing in the '60s. My breasts weren't so large that I couldn't hide them, which I did diligently, but I knew they were there, as I constantly felt their heavy presence. Flash-forward to my years as a young woman, I didn't want to ever disrobe in front of men, including my husband of 37 years, and then breastfeeding my two children in the early '80s was extremely cumbersome and challenging. As life went on, I developed constant neck, shoulder, and back pain, plus deep, burning grooves in my shoulders where my bra straps dug into my skin.

This year, emboldened by my old age and a desire for physical comfort in my remaining years, I finally decided to put myself first and scheduled appointments with three area plastic surgeons for consultation. After my first scheduled appointment, which was with Dr. Ted Eisenberg, I felt so comfortable with both him and his staff, I cancelled my appointments for a second and a third opinion with other area surgeons. Dr. Eisenberg's calm and gentle manner made me feel immediately at ease, plus I was very impressed with his credentials and all of his experience in the field. Moreover, his staff couldn't have been more solicitous, reassuring and helpful in the weeks leading up to the procedure. They all treated me with kindness, respect, and patience, which meant so much to me. The procedure itself was actually a breeze. Having watched YouTube testimonials made by much younger women detailing their breast reduction experiences, I was a little apprehensive, as so many of them described how painful and incapacitated they felt in the days and weeks following their surgeries. My experience was the direct opposite: very minimal post-operative pain, no bleeding, no nausea, and no immediate physical limitations. Immediately following my surgery, I felt like a million bucks and was ready to run up the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Best yet, my chronic back pain has immediately vanished. While aesthetics weren't my main priority, I must say it's nice to have a more youthful-looking bust line. I actually keep (privately, of course) feeling myself, hardly believing that these are the same two "girls" that tortured me for fifty years. Why, oh why didn't I do this sooner! It was an overall outstanding experience, and I'll be forever grateful to Dr. Eisenberg and his wonderful staff.
