Day Two:

Day Two has been surprisingly easy, I experience little to no pain however still taking painkillers as ive heard they can reduce swelling. Going to the toliet has been fine, still using a spray bottle and sitting in salt baths. I have been icing the area alot more as i have noticed the swelling on the one side has gotten bigger, it is not painful. One of the nurses rang me today to check how I am going, she said that it was normal for the swelling to be like this. Things seem to be going okay at the moment.

I have wanted this procedure for quite awhile now, it wasn't until I began to have sexual intercourse that I realised I was different. My first boyfriend never said anything, however my 2nd and 3rd boyfriend both made remarks about my 'lips'. It made me extremely self contentious, resulting in me not having intercourse or let anyone see my vagina for the last year and a half ( not even a doctor for a pap smear)
And so after lots of research I finally plucked up the courage to have some consultations. My first consult was with a well known plastic surgeon, i felt a bit rushed and pressed for time to make my decision to go with him, he wanted close to 10 grand and as a student I didn't have that much money. My second consult ( and who i decided to go with) was with a cosmetic surgeon, i felt a lot more welcome and at ease, the reception girls and nurses where lovely and the DR. was very helpful. He also gave me a discounted quote for $3800. Price did not make this decision for me, but how I was treated and the information and advice I was given. The plastic surgeon wanted to use a scaple with a 'wedge trim' method, I had researched this before and didn't particularly think I wanted this method from some of the stories. The cosmetic surgeon discussed a laser trim method, he explained that he believed it helped his patients to recover more promptly as less bleeding and swelling occurs. I booked my surgery after my consult and paid all fees. I was booked in for 9:00am 16th of August.

PROCEDURE:
I was told I was unable to drive and would need a friend to pick me up, this wasn't possible for me (as I haven't told anyone) and so i asked if a taxi would be okay, and that was fine. On arrival to the clinic i was taken into my own private room that was mine for the morning. The nurse went over some paper work with me and check my blood pressure. She then applied some numbing cream to my arm (before an injection) and to my vaginal area. She explained that this would help with the pain of the local anaesthetic. She injected me with an antibiotic and gave me two tables to swallow which i also believe were antibiotics (or maybe pain killers?). I wait about 20 minuets for the numbing cream to work and they took me into the surgery place where my surgeon greeted me. At this time I was feeling anxious as I have had surgery before but never have been awake for it. I was sat onto the operating chair where my Dr. began to mark out where and how much he was going to take off. I was shown this and we agreed. The nurse gave me laughing gas which I was able to suck on whenever I wanted, and the local anaesthesia injections began. The nurse said that this would be the most painful part of the whole procedure so i began to suck hard on the air, I honestly didn't feel a thing and just remember feeling really drunk. The doctors gave me 20-25 mins to let the local to work and then the operation began. Being awake I didn't feel a thing, I could hear the laser but they played music to calm my nervous, I could also feel blood dripping down to my bottom but this is all i felt, it was 100% painless. The doctor took off my left labia via laser, and my right via laser and scapel. He used dissolvable stitches to close me up and surgical glue to finish the seal. During the whole operation I was awake however very much so out of it as I sucked the air, i would have been fine without it however it did work a charm on my nerves. The procedure itself took around 2 hours. After I hopped off the table back to my private room where antibiotic cream was applied along with a pad. The nurse went over some after care instructions and gave me a packet of painkillers, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and a antibiotic cream. A taxi was called for me to go home and off I went. I felt completely fine after my procedure a little bit sick on my car ride home (probably from so much gas) but no pain.
I got home and got straight into bed, it was probably an hour after my procedure that i began to experience pain.
The pain wasn't unbearable but i did feel quite uncomfortable. Finding a comfortable position in bed was the hardest, and i struggled to ice the area as the pad was so thick it wasn't reaching it. I kept the pad on for most of the afternoon, but as the pain increased i took it off as i felt it was causing it to rub. Getting up and around the house for simple things was quite a challenge, I felt faint every time I walked to the kitchen to get a new ice pack or to eat something ( i recommend having a helper as it is very difficult to do it alone). My pain probably peaked around 7-8 hours after the procedure and i felt as if the painkillers weren't helping. Staying very still and finding a comfortable spot helped the most, I managed to fall asleep for a few hours.
For the rest of the night i on and off iced the area and tried to keep to bed. I did do my first wee after the procedure, i was told to take a salt bath or to wash after. I did do this and it didn't hurt. By night time my pain had mostly gone and I was able to walk around to do simple things. I feel asleep with no worries after finding a comfortable position. As pictures show it is quite sore looking and swollen, i don't think it is too bad to what i was expecting. One side is quite swollen in comparison to the other.

DAY ONE:
This morning I haven't experienced much pain at all, its more discomfort i would say a 2/10 on a scale. I went to the toilet this morning and used a spray bottle with salt and lukewarm/cold water to wash away any urine. I applied my antibiotic cream and have taken all my tablets. Im stuck to bed rest and so going to watch a few movies. I feel fine and have had a look this morning. One side is still quite swollen in comparison to the other one, I think this is quite normal. The dried blood has seemed to disappear bit and looks as if some of the bruising is coming out. I feel as if it doesn't look so 'raw' and hoping it is starting to heal.
