Day 1Post Op

So yesterday the pain was minimal, but I was a little too out of it to try to update and trust that it would make sense.
After surgery there was like a stinging/burning sensation in my noise and a dull ache in my nose and upper teeth.
There was some bleeding from my nose that seem to be exacerbated by movement.
So I just spent as much time as I could being still. Doc said to take it easy, rest, no heavy lifting anyway.
That's good bc there is a blizzard today and guess who doesn't have to shovel! =)

Throughout the nite I periodically felt drips from my nose so I just grabbed a tissue or some gauze and held it there so it could absorb whatever.
I was also completely dehydrated. Sleeping w my mouth wide open (bc nose completely congested) didn't help, so I drank a lot throughout the nite. This, of course, made me have to pee constantly. But I used those bathroom trips as opportunities to throw out my bloody tissues and gauze and to gently wash any bloody residue off my face. Oh, and to refill my water bottle.

This morning the bleeding seems to have slowed, although who knows what will happen when I try to get up and eat some breakfast and my face starts moving around from chewing. I am completely congested still and feel a little hungover. I'm guessing this is partly from the drugs and partly from this dehydration that I can't seem to get ahead of.

A Few Hours Away

Surgery scheduled for 1:20.
Forgot to mention - I'm not getting anything done to the appearance of my nose, strictly septum and turbinates.
So there should be no change in the appearance.
Talk to you in a few hours!

Hi RS! I am scheduled for a septum and turbinate...

Hi RS! I am scheduled for a septum and turbinate reduction in 2 days.
I have never been able to breathe through my nose very well, and as a result have been a mouth breather. You will often catch me zoning out with my mouth hanging open. Not cute. Working out is challenging because you know that whole breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth thing? Yeah, not happening here. I get winded, sore throught, and even super sleepy because I am not getting enough oxygen.
A few years ago I was watching Dr. 90210 and they were performing a rhinoplasty. After the Dr completed his work he was checking the nasal passages so he took this tool - kind of similar in shape and size to a pencil - and slid it up into each nasal passage. I could not believe my eyes! You could not get a pencil in my nose past the eraser! Is this how open our nasal passages are supposed to be??
So, this year I finally got up the nerve to go visit an ENT doctor. He confirmed my suspicions and said that I just have tiny nasal passages that are obstructed on both sides by the septum and turbinates.
He uses a method where he lifts the lining of the nose and does the reduction under the surface. This prevents the crusty nasty mess inside your nose when it's healing. He says that most patients get the surgery on a Friday and can return to work on Monday.
So we have scheduled my surgery for this Friday, Jan 22!
A couple of weeks before you are supposed to stop taking any kind of aspirin or aspirin containing products. There are 2 presciptions you will need afterward - Tylenol with codeine, and (what I believe is) an antibiotic.
