I Walked out of the Consult Crying :-( - Parkville, AU

I went in to see Dr Mark Ashton a month ago to ask him his opinion on whether I was an appropriate candidate for Breast Reduction Surgery. I heard he was 'the guru' for breast reduction that is why I contacted him. I was completely put off from the start. He referred to me as 'Honeybun' which is very off putting when you need to take your shirt off. He also spent about 5 minutes explaining his procedure. That 5 minutes cost me $200. When I took my top off, I felt completely uncomfortable, he just gave me that vibe. I then needed to go to the secretary for payment (at least she was lovely!). While I was talking to her, Dr Ashton then came out to me and said in front of everyone in the waiting room 'Oh, and honeybun, you will need to lose about 5kgs too'. I walked out of the consult crying. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. Luckily I saw an amazing surgeon the week before who had a beautiful bedside manner and made me feel comfortable (even with my top off!).

Welcome to the community.  Thank you for starting your journey with us.

I always recommend going in for at least 3 consults before making a final doctor decision.  I am sorry that you had a bad first experience.  Keep searching and you will be happy in the end.
It does sound somewhat inappropriate.
FALC, I went to see him as well. He was lovely and very serious. If it weren't the fact that I had a personal recommendation from a friend to go to another surgeon I would of had him perform my surgery without doubt. I kind of laughed when I read the alleged "honeybun" comment because I could not imagine him saying that; simply not that kind of person. Would you be kind enough to tell us who else you went to see and follow up on your procedure with a helpful review including photos? That for me is the best and most helpful way to review a procedure and surgeons work for the real self community eager for advice.
Mark Ashton is my surgeon. I had revised breast reconstruction. Mark is a highly skilled and professional surgeon. He gave me a better quality of life after breast cancer. I highly recommend Mark Ashton.
Good on you !!!! xx
this to me sounds like this might be a person working for his opposition or something. I went to see Mark Ashton a few months ago and I'm booked in for a procedure with him, and he was nothing but VERY professional, and explained everything to me in great detail unlike other surgeons i went to see...
Thumbs up - I am cynical about this review as well !!!
