WORTH IT
I went to doctor Pollard in August of 2016 to inquire about a tummy tuck and breast lift. I was referred by my sister who is in the medical field and assured me that Dr. Pollard was “down to earth” and would “give it to you straight”. I was 53 years old, kids in College and I had a few medical issues which I thought would be “cured” after removing unwanted belly fat. I finally had the tummy tuck surgery in June 2017. Why so long? Well… I had weighted the options of getting the gastric bypass sleeve vs. a tummy tuck before I went to see Dr. Pollard and finally decided that I was ready to commit to curve my diet, cut out sweets, bread, juices w/sugar and begin a minimum of a 3-day a week exercise program. The problems I had with the sleeve was that I would be out-of-work for longer than I wanted and the diet afterwards was 3 months of liquid. I was committed but I didn’t think the best option for me. Once I rationalized the type of action I would take to improve my life, I went to see Dr. Pollard. She was very courteous, as well as her staff, and she and I had a conversation.
Let’s say the conversation was very intrusive, I think because she needed to know the why, provide alternative suggestions and let me know the seriousness/Side effects of doing a procedure that is very intrusive. She also advised me that this procedure would not fix my ailments in any way. She let me know that I would have to do the due diligence to make life changes. She then told me that if I still wanted the surgery, I should lose at least 20 more pounds because I wouldn’t like the outcome, if the surgery was done at my current weight. She even explained why. Now that is a great doctor. After our talk, I agreed to do the surgery and signed up for December 2016. When I left the office, I was feeling conflicted because of our conversation but, I really appreciated the fact that she spoke frankly and did not beat around the bush, so I trusted her with my life, literally.
I had the surgery June 2nd, at 190 lbs. and when I finished surgery I was 190 lbs. I realized that 5 inches had been removed from my waistline. My plan after surgery is to lose 35 more pounds. Since June, I’ve lost an additional 10 lbs. and 2 additional inches of my waistline. My commitment to improving me has awarded me “my sexy back”. None of my current clothes fit, I’m healthier than I’ve ever been and it’s recognizable through my actions. I no longer feel sluggish and tired and I’m so grateful to Dr. Pollard for giving me a second chance at life. I promise I won’t waist it!
