Wow, it's been just about 18 months since my surgeries. After the complications from the second surgery I found it hard to get back into a workout routine again, and then over the past winter I basically let myself go. I always used to judge my weight by how hard it was to button my pants...and now, if I wait until my pants don't button, I am fat all over! My arms, face and legs too! I ended up gaining 20 lbs or more (before I stopped weighing myself). I am now proud to say that I'm only 2 lbs above my pre-surgery weight and the scale is still trending in the right direction. I plan to post pics soon. I don't think nearly enough people on this site post long term follow up pics.

As for my progress...the bumps are nearly nonexistent. If they are there, they are not bothering me. I am still very pleased with my flanks, not so excited about my front. There is still some numbness where I had the fluid retention, and the skin is slightly indented in that area. On the other side there is a little bit of unevenness as well in one spot, but I'm probably the only one who will ever notice it. As for the skin discoloration, it's nearly gone as well. I will likely be the only one to ever notice what's left of it. I can't wait to post pics! It gives me motivation to lose more weight!

Thanks Sharon. I lost one more pound since my last update, however, after reading through my blog, I realized that I had 7 more pounds to go to get back to my pre-surgery weight, not 2! Anywho...I'm only dropping about 2 lb a week but I'm hoping to have pics up sooner than later. I would have to say that my favorite pics were the day after my second surgery (the one where I'm in gray). After that I swelled up, then by time the swelling was gone I was 10 lbs heavier. So I am actually hoping to soon get back to that pic in the gray. It sounds like your surgery has been very typical. Give it a few more months, massage alot, and don't pack on lbs!

Correction. I am dropping 1 lb per week right now.

6 months! It's finally been about 6 months from my surgery dates. I am still lumpy in places, numb, and i still have some skin discoloration. The lumps are only noticeable to me, and it takes a lot of pressure in just the right spots to feel pain from them.
The final verdict: I am pleased with my sides, but not with my abdomen. I no longer bulge over the sides of my pants, just the front. (I can't have it all right?). I've not been able to shake the 10 lbs I've put on since surgery so I haven't taken photos recently. I just don't think one can really compare my before and after pics when I weigh so much more. Heck, maybe once I lose the weight even I will be satisfied with my front side (and my face, and arms...etc). I need to make a follow up appointment with the doctor and I will give an update on that in a few weeks.

I'm in the kansas city area as well and I go in for a consultation at reflections tomorrow. I was thinking of this place because it combines the Zerona Treatments for after. I wonder if that would help with the lumps and stuff. You can see improvements and it looks like you have lost weight. You look great. Thanks for sharing

Have you looked into the comments on Zerona here? As far as I can tell,it doesn't work. Only thing proven to work well is Zeltiq Coolculpting.

Long time no posts from each other. Just wondering how you are doing? I never went in for my last follow up at 6 months so I am going in next week. Its almost been a year since my smartlipo and I feel that I need some touch ups. Might even talk to him about my inner thighs now. How are your lumps? Have you gone back in? Just thought it would be nice to catch up.

Hey Jensue! Good to hear from you. Things are well. I have not gone back for a follow up either, mostly because I've put on more weight. Lumps are nearly gone, but there is some numbness where the fluid retention was. Since it's on my lower back it's out of sight and out of mind most of the time. Good to hear from you and I look forward to hearing about your follow up. :)

It's been 4 months since my abdominal surgery and 3 months since my flanks were done. I am not feeling great about my results right now. I am not feeling great about any part of my body right now actually. Blah! Time to crack down and diet I suppose. The numbness and lumpiness has not improved in quite some time. Sometimes when I bend down quickly to pick something up I feel a sharp pain in my side where the lumps are...just like a knot being pulled on. Massaging does seem to help soften it up.

Hi, actually I had the same surgery as u and exactly the same time. To be honest my feeling is also like yours too. It's not what I expected at all. another thing is my shape was very similar to you. funny.
any ways, I called the clinic 2 days ago, they agreed to do that again for free. But this time I dont expect that much. Though, I feel like the balance in my body has changed, before LIPO whenever I gained weight it went all to my belly, but now it goes to other part of my body which honesty is more pleasant for me. still, another similarity is I started to go on a diet and exercise again, only this time i hope when I reach my reasonable weight I have better core shape than before. Sincerely wish you better feeling and cross my fingers for both of us success.

Thanks Rosii. I think I'm just having a bad week. For the most part I agree that my proportions are better than before the surgery. I'm not sure I could do it all over again. You are so brave!
January 6, 2012
Sorry you are having a bad week. It happens. Sometimes I look in the mirror and feel fat and that my lipo spots are more swollen. But we have to remember...our bodies HAVE changed. Its our brain doing stupid things. We need to look in the mirror and say postitive things about ourselves and not be soo crititcal.
Stay positive....but I would call the Dr about the pain. That doesnt sound right.

Hope you had a good holiday season!!

Hi, I was doing some research to see if I could get my baby bump slimmed down, and after reading what you went through, no thank you. I am also 5'7, 30yo and after having two kids and gaining 120 total pounds, I find myself with a slightly cellulite tummy. I had 2 c-sections, and the pain from my second was so bad, I really am weary of surgery. I know it seems awesome, but it really is not. Also, taking steroids creates uneven random fat deposits, so you should steer clear of those. I am really surprised that your plastic surgeon was unaware of that, seeming it is right on the Rx label as a side effect. Also, Liposuction does not remove the fat surrounding your organs which is the biggest factor in heart disease, and a whole host of other problems. My dad died from a heart attack when I was 27 and pregnant, and he wasn't huge...he was 55yo, 160lbs, but he had a little belly fat. Strive for your health, because the better you treat your insides, the more beautiful you will look outside.
Anyway, my proportions were the same as yours...I would go from 140-170 every few months and it was so frustrating, but after realizing the error of my ways, I changed my diet completely and exercise about 3x per week. I eat like a diabetic, although I am not, and it has helped tremendously. Stay away from wheat also, especially the bleached, it actually turned into a paste in your intestines and doesn't allow the toxins that create cellulite to be properly expelled. I was 135 before I stopped eating wheat, which makes you horribly bloated as well, then I dropped another 10 pounds. Don't fall for that Gluten-free BS, because those foods are still processed.I highly recommend preparing your food ahead of time, so when you are hungry you can reach into the fridge and heat it up.
I was 190 two years ago, and now I am 123. It takes a long-ass time to lose weight forever, bc it really is a lifestyle change and you can't stop when you reach your goals, which you should set at 5-10lb intervals at a time. I would recommend downloading MyFitnessPal app if you have an iphone, and track everything little thing you eat, including coffee creamer, because it all adds up. You can also record your exercise too, which is awesome and figure out which vitamins you are lacking or eating too much of. I don't drink calories either, unless its a 0% fage greek yogurt smoothie! Anyway, I'd really like to help you, considering plastic surgeons are cocky pricks out to get your money and don't actually care about your health. When I used to meet people they would say stuff like, your eyes are pretty or you have lovely lips, but now complete strangers come up to me and say, "I just wanted to tell you that you're beautiful." Makes you feel much better than when your high school boyfriend tells your best friend that you crush him when you make out!

I could go on forever about this but I know my fitness and nutrition better than some doctors and when I read fitness magazines, they offer me absolutely no new information. If I could get at least 50 more twitter followers, then I would ne dilligent in helping support people with all kinds of issues...like skin solutions, exercise tips, etc...@krissyashraf...Anyway, don't let this consume you, get kick ass grades, and be awesome! I would say good luck, but from my experience luck does not exist.

KrisT-It sounds as if you are very educated with how food fuels the body. I too have read alot and am a huge fitness buff. I believe everyone should eat healthy and exercise not only for weight reasons but for overall body health.

BUT some people just have hereditary problem areas where diet and exercise don't do the trick. I am not over weight and I am a marathon runner, I lift weights and I swim. I still had saddle bags and a banana roll. I was disproportionate. NO amount of exercise would get rid of it. I also know these areas can be around ones waist, back, tummy (as in LaurieKays case) etc. The only way to get rid of this type of fat is by surgery or acceptance of that part of your body. I also want to say that I used the same doctor as LaurieKay and he was an awesome doctor who does care about his patients.

Anyway I wish everyone to be healthy and exercise but for those who are tired of the stubborn areas that don't respond to diet and exercise, smartlipo is a great way to go. Find a good board certified surgeon and start feeling good about yourself.

LaurieKay, way to go on the new fitness plan!! But you are looking fantastic anyway :)

Thanks KrisT for your comments and advice. A couple days after posting my last blog I mustered up the courage to step on the scale for the first time in a couple months. I had gained about 8-10 Holliday pounds this year, which explains why I feel so chunky! So yes, it's time to start eating right and hitting the gym. I do have my fitness pal downloaded on my phone, and I found that entering my daily food log was quite time consuming. I also don't have a heart rate monitor that measures about how many calories I burn doing aerobics...so I was always estimating. Those few days a week that I was unable to make it to he gym I only got 1200 calories to live on...which seems nearly impossible! Any good tips for using that?

Thank you Jensue, I couldn't have worded that better. Those were my exact thoughts!
