I had felt really ugly and old and tired-looking...
I had felt really ugly and old and tired-looking for a long time. I had sagging, wrinkled cheeks and a turkey neck. Maybe for about the last 20 years. I thought about Lifestyle Lift alot as I always saw the ads on TV. So after years of waiting, I went for an initial consultation. Drove 4 hours to get to the nearest facility, had the evaluation, and then drove 4 hours home. I found out it would cost me almost $9K. At the time of the consultation, I was in debt, retired, and without much hope that I could ever afford a LL.
About five years later, I had gotten myself out of debt, had a part-time job, and I got a flier saying that there were holiday rates for a Lifestyle Lift ($3999). Also, there were credit arrangements that could be made for 18 months through Care Credit. When I went in for a new consultation, I found that a Lifestyle Lift facility had moved into my area, and it was less than 8 miles from my house. That was exceedingly more convenient than having to fly/drive to a distant city, stay a week in a hotel for check ups, and then fly/drive home. I got all the info, talked to Dr. Saxon and he assessed what I'd need. Told me that I would like the procedure much better if I had a full-face laser treatment too. I had alot of fine wrinkles as well as deep wrinkles, "jowls," tiny red dots around my lips, and many brown age spots. I knew he was right. So I was able to ask Dr Saxon details about the procedure and what I'd experience during the surgery. Since I am a nurse, I asked lots of questions which he patiently and fully answered. The surgery was scheduled for the next month.
I barely recall the first shots of lidocaine and remembered thinking that they hurt but that was a very distant, blurred memory that only seemed to last seconds. I remember feeling some pulling, but I guess I was lying there for two hours, and it was like being under anesthesia since I virtually felt nothing and remembered nothing about any pain or distress. Dr Saxon used just the right mix of oral medication to put me out very safely and successfully.
Not alot had been said about that first week at home except for "swelling and redness." My sister had come from CA to spend Christmas with me, and I really needed the help: to get ice bags filled, to get meals together, to drive me places, pick up and give my medicines. I wasn't expecting to need help, but I really did, so I was glad to have my sister with me. My face was very red (beet red) from the laser and swollen to about twice it's normal size. For a full week, I didn't look like myself at all! My sister took multiple pictures of me each day. I must admit, they did look pitiful, but it really didn't hurt much. It was a bit messy slathering my face with Cetaphil (like vaseline) and wearing my jaw bra to apply pressure to my cheeks, chin and jaw. After about the 5th day postop, I started wearing a hoodie with dark glasses, and I went everywhere with my sister: the movies, the store, out for a walk. I claimed to be the Unibomber since we sort of looked alike. People would look at me and smile, but no one was rude or asked me any questions.
Since I've been through alot of surgery (knees, shoulder, feet, back), this procedure was "a piece of cake." I found my initial looks to be rather humorous, and I just stayed home mostly for the first 5-7 days. After the second week, alot of the swelling was gone. At three weeks I had to meet with my new students at the beginning of a new semester for my online course. Nobody seemed to notice that anything was wrong although my face was still ruddy from the laser. It had been cold outside so maybe they thought it was windburn. At about six weeks I got a good idea of how I was going to look. Only one person said that she didn't see any difference. My dentist said "You look younger!" I told him I had a Lifestyle Lift and he added that it took at least 10 years off me. I went to a restaurant with a friend at about two months and asked for their senior rates. She looked at me like she thought I was lying, and when I was gone to the buffet, the waitress asked my friend if I really was a senior, and she told her I was 70. The same thing happened at Great Clips. They tried to charge me for an "adult haircut" rather than a "senior haircut." When I told her I always got senior rates, she sort of scowled at me like I wasn't telling her the truth. I loved it!!! I got out my driver's license to show her my birth date. Another friend was so impressed with how my looks had changed that she sent information about me and Lifestyle Lift to a 55 year old friend who had alot of sun damage to her face.
There are still a few areas I'd like to have reworked slightly. Right now, I can live with them, but if they are still like this in 18 months, I will probably want to have something done with them. There are "ripples" under my chin where it was swollen to about four times it's usual size/shape. Also under my ears, there seem to be other ripples, probably because I had SO MUCH extra loose facial skin. That may lay flat after several more months. We'll just have to see.
I am totally glad that I had the Lifestyle Lift and don't feel like I look old and tired anymore. I now look in the mirror and smile rather than frown. I'm also losing some weight and hope that I can continue finding ways to look and feel younger, healthier, and livelier. I highly recommend LL to other people who are not happy with their face/neck. Thanks so much to the Lifestyle Lift "family." My experience has been AWESOME!
