Doctor Pearson and his staff are kind, respectful and experts within the Facial Surgery field. I’ve been seeing him for 9 months and he has been the best physician I have ever been treated by. It’s difficult to deal with a facial injury yet he ultimately helped me heal physically through treatments and surgery but he also contributed significantly to my emotional recovery. I highly recommend Doctor Pearson. After being mauled by a dog that removed a portion of my upper left lip/cheek, I had emergency facial surgery to close the wound. I understood that the surgery at the hospital trauma center was a stop-gap measure to close the wound and reduce chances of infection. The scarring and shape of my mouth/lower face was not something that I could comfortably live with so I met with several Reconstructive Facial Surgeons to discuss options. After meeting with Dr. James Pearson, I immediately elected to move forward with him. The choice was based on his thoroughness, kind approachable demeanor, expertise which I compared to other doctors’ conversations with me. He discussed with me a realistic but very positive and supportive treatment plan. For example, during my first meeting with him he did a full exam and happened to find a secondary medical issue that needed immediate care. None of the other physicians did an exam and most looked down at a chart making notes instead of talking to me. He and his respectful and kind staff were focused on me and my care and treatment plan. They did not treat me like I was just “some patient” but rather gave me the underlying attention and support that a person with a facial injury (me) really needed. Additionally, he was able to create and explain a treatment plan that I understood and which began immediately. All the other doctors I met with told me to come back 12 months’ post-injury because the scar needed to stabilize any treatment could be done. However, Dr. Pearson’s treatment plan included injections that would help soften the existing scar and reduce further development of scar tissue. Ultimately, helping the scar remain as minimal and soft as possible which would improve any future larger procedures like surgery. He develops a relationship with his patients versus having his staff do much of the contact, which has been rare in my experience with other doctors. During my treatment and specifically after my scar revision surgery, he contacted me personally on a daily basis to ensure I was healing but more than that he was concerned about my pain levels and my emotional well-being. Again, facial injury impacts all aspects of one’s life because it’s so visible and with a mouth issue, I struggled to eat and drink. Looking back over the treatment timeline, I could not have asked for anything more in terms of him and his staff’s support and treatment. Dr. Pearson’s calm respectful approach coupled with his experience and extensive treatment options (monthly scar treatment then ultimately a scar revision surgery with follow-up to manage scar development post-surgery) has restored my mouth back to a cosmetically appealing feature and my muscles function again so I can eat and drink/speak again in a way that’s very similar to pre-mauling.
