I Had a Great Experience
It has now been 6 months since my surgery. The first few days weren't pleasant, swallowing and even breathing at times was difficult. However, it gradually got better. Overall, I am happy I had this surgery and I am pleased with the result. I will also have screw and plate removal surgery with Dr Lee.
Provider Review
When I wrote my review, I was ecstatic because my face looked more 'normal' after the surgery, hence the positive review, I thought at least it looks better. It has been over 2 years now and I can look at this surgery with more clarity and explain better. I will start with explaining that I have hemifacial Microsomia, I realised that something was wrong with my face before surgery but I didn't realise what exactly, I have a very mild version of this condition, meaning I have some facial asymmetry but it's not something you would notice immediately, i had never received a diagnosis. I went to see a surgeon in Italy first and he told me that my mouth area is a few mm back, it needs moving forward. My jaw also looked wide and I mentioned v-line surgery to him but he advised me that I don't need it. He told me my bones are normal but it's the excess muscle making it look wide (he recommended Botox, oh how I wish I listened to him!) I used to grind my teeth, so I guess that caused the muscle to increase. Anyway I went to Korea and Dr Lee performed Double jaw surgery on me, V line surgery and some procedure to permanently decrease the masseter muscle. My chin didn't look right after surgery, it was pointy and had some lines on it, it looked scrunched up and unnatural. I went back to Dr lee a year later and he performed a chin surgery to return it back to it's original size, he agreed that I didn't need v-line surgery and just needed muscle reduction as my chin was a normal size anyway. However, he did not tell me this at the consultation, this shows that like most Dr's in Korea, he is looking at every patient in the same way, there is no individualised approach. It may work for Koreans who generally have wide faces and chins but it doesn't work for everyone. Also he cut my whole mandible angle, so now it's just a straight line, it looks unnatural. I can't fully feel my bottom lip and chin, so I have some permanent nerve damage. Dr Lee is polite, honest, helpful and does seem like he genuinely cares about his patients. However I would not recommend anyone who is not Korean to get a surgery in this country. There is no individualised approach at all and that is not satisfactory, every face is different! Also please think thoroughly about your decision to get surgery, any surgery, it's a huge decision and you could potential ruin your face...if you feel there is some problem then please visit a craniofacial surgeon first to get a diagnosis.
