Dr. Slusher: Neograft FUE 2500 Grafts Orlando, FL
ORIGINAL POST
Hi guys, I've been lurking this site before my HT...
WORTH IT$11,500
Hi guys, I've been lurking this site before my HT and after so I thought I'd share my progress and experience so far for others to view. Please feel free to comment or suggest anything. I appreciate everyone's input if you feel generous to give it.
On 3/6/15, I had the Neograft procedure with Dr. Slusher in Orlando at the Bassin Center. 2500 Grafts.
I'm on day 6 and am having the typical nerve pains from the donor area. My face seemed to swell more than most people reported (and is still swollen) and my grafts itch like all hell but I've been spraying them with saline and trying with all my might not to touch them! Tomorrow, day 7, according to my post op procedures I can wash my hair with regularity (no more cup and baby shampoo). I'm seeing my doc tomorrow to start propecia and I was told I can't do minoxidil for 4 weeks.

My husband has an appointment at the Bassin center and is very unsure
about having it done. They told him $2,500 just like you and price is same...after "discount". Any updates or thoughts on your experience?

Is still very very early, I'm about to hit my 3 month post op. I do have some serious regrowth happening but it's due to the Rogaine & Finestricide use (and even with that it's early). As far as the HT, I would shop around more mainly on price and also look online at forums for recommendations. It may be better to travel. No matter what though, GET A SECOND OPINION. I was told 2500 grafts isn't going to be enough by people who have a lot of experience with transplants. The procedure is a big deal. It's uncomfortable as hell for the first week and the first few months his head will look red and weird; called "ugly duckling" by the community. It's worth it though according to people who have done it.
A couple things about Bass in. Dr Slusher is great and had excellent bedside manner. His involvement in the procedure is minimal but he does supervise. From what I understand, most other HTs are fine by a doctor... At Bassin, the tech Louis did 95%. With that said, Louis is very good and very experienced and the whole experience was just great... I don't regret it at all. The biggest thing is your husband needs to be fully aware of what the recovery looks like and things like "shock loss" and donor scaring (temporary for me).

One other thing; Tell your husband to keep in mind that his appointment at Bassin will be with their sales director; not the doctor. You don't get to see the Dr until you sign up unless you ask. The sales guy is very nice but I don't feel I got the whole story from him. His name is Ron. He wasn't dishonest at all, but he did throw around the word "guarantee" a few times. As you know, nothing is guaranteed in life and a Hair Transplant is also included in that.
At 3 months in, I'm starting to see some serious progress and I'm getting excited. I have to wait at least 6 months to see the HT results but things are looking good so far and I'm glad I did it.
Your husband has to understand that he is making a life-long committment to taking Finestricide and Rogaine. These are non-negotiable to having a HT; you have to do it. Rogain is cheap at Costco ($28 for 6 month supply) and the Finestricide is very inexpensive too. Tell him to start those ASAP as they will work. Also, just as a side note to taking Finestricide... and I don't mean to be vulgar, but it does NOT cause erection issues. I saw my GP and discussed with him prior to starting and he said he's never had anyone report having that although the internet will tell you differently. I would even say my erections are stronger since starting but that could be because of my excitement to be growing hair again :S
Sorry to talk like this but it does need to be said. He should ask his GP if he is unsure but if he's unwilling to do those two things, he shouldn't get a HT. :)

This is great, you have no idea (well, maybe you do). First, he did see Ron already and made his appointment for the procedure. He gave him the "guarantee" speech too, which I told him to get in writing. Now it sounds like you may be saying that's not the case? As in he gets no money-back if he doesn't achieve full results? The next very important thing is the medication and topical treatment. He did take something for a while but did quit because of the side effects, and was under the impression that this procedure eliminated him from having to do that again! They told him there was virtually no down time and that this was permanent. It sounds like he was misinformed. He only took 2 days off work for the appointment, and that coupled with the weekend, doesn't sound like enough time for him to go back and not look like he had something extreme done to his head. Finally I did see your review after reading similar things about Bassin and Doria, which worried me. So I was very hopeful that you would respond soon so we could figure out what to do. I am very grateful that you did! How long did it take for your head to look somewhat normal? If you could post update pics that would be great, otherwise I won't keep bothering you since you've already done so much for us by filling me in!

Sorry for the long delay in update / response. My experience has been great. First of all, I rec at least a full week of down time. Second, the first 3-4 months are "ugly duckling" months; I had redness and had to use my wife's concealer to cover it. Also it's very uncomfortable ...especially that first week. With that said, and for me, it is totally worth it. Only 5 months afterwards and I am totally confident again.

Great post, any updates on progress?

YES. Actually I am overdue on an update so let me post some pictures. A couple of things. The Minoxidil makes my hair feel like straw and my scalp gets itchy as hell so I've cut back to once a day and even then I don't leave it more than a few hours. I got the foam version and alternate between the liquid and foam to try and reduce the annoyance.
The major change is I stopped washing my hair... I only wash it twice a week. I still shower every night, of course, but I don't use shampoo; I just rub water through my hair and massage my scalp. My hair feels MUCH better since I stopped washing everyday.

I'm 32 and am pretty much bald already (using Toppik to cover it up).
I just learned about this new method and wondering if it could fit my needs. Cost is high but for us bald people it might be worth it.
I read you said you use Propecia and Rogaine - why? (FYI-Propecia is dangerous to the labido and sperm count). I thought after this treatment you won't have to use anything to keep the hair - so why are you using it?
Also, does the new hair look different than the hair you hair? e.g. dry?

So first I use the propecia and rogaine (minoxidil) because it helps prevent further hair loss. So if you go the HT route, those transplanted hairs will not fall out, but the hair I had pre-HT might, so the propecia and rogaine prevent or, at least, limit that. Second, I have had no side effects to my labido. I talked to my regular Dr first and he told me that he's been prescribing it for years and none of his patients that didn't already have ED problems has ever reported problems with propecia and that the rumors on the internet about it are probably men who had ED issues blaming it on something. He guessed a lot of men claiming labido issues were actually placebo. So for me, no issues. He did do a blood test and PSA reading to monitor it just to be sure no blood changes occur.
The growth I have now is undoubtedly because I got a boost of old hair regrowth from the propecia / minoxidil use as I'm a bit more advanced regrowth than normal.
I'm not sure of your last question but I'll try to answer what I think you asked. The hair I have looks exactly like the hair I used to have; there is no difference other than it's still a bit thinner than it was in my early 20s, of course. Otherwise it looks and IS very much normal head hair (since it came from my head). I can grow it long if I wanted, etc... The pictures above are all with dry hair, just after a shower btw.
I hope that helps. One of my many concerns pre-HT was the way it would look. I see men that clearly had work done and they look like [RS bleep]... that is partly due to the old Hair Plugs (which looked like [RS bleep]) and sometimes maybe just bad HT work. So picking a dr is important and strategizing the hair placement is part of that. I don't think that NOT doing propecia / minoxidil is a deal killer but for me I decided after talking to my doctor that if I was going to spend this money and do this HT, I would go all in. So far so good. Good luck and if you have any questions at all, hit me up!

Stop washing your hair!
Okay , I'm super happy so far with my results and it's only been 5 months. I still have a lot of growing to do. One thing that is helping me a lot is stopping washing my hair everyday. I'm down to just twice a week now and soon just once (other than the occasional yard work day where I'm really dirty). Instead of shampooing each day, massage and rub your scalp in the shower to get rid of any dirt. This has increased my overal comfort and reduced the itchiness a lot. I also use coconut oil which I will rub into my scalp.

Hi, is it possible to get an update. I am searching the surrounding Tampa Bay area and Florida in general. Would enjoy hearing how you are doing.
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you for joining and sharing your experience with the community. The nerve pain and itching sound crazy. Does it feel any better after that first shampoo?
Wonderful! The process sounds so painful, I think the itching would drive me bats.
