Thank you to everyone that has shared your story. Each of your stories and pictures have made realize that I have made the correct decision in proceeding with my breast reduction. It has also encouraged me to share at least part of my experience with others on this site.
I am at least a size 36I. But the first picture that you see with the bra, it is a 36H. As you can see, I am overflowing from the top. What’s harder to tell is how much is not fitted into the bottom of the bra. I refuse to special order bras, as the ones that I have been wearing for years cost on average $72.00 each. If I was able to save $45 off of each bra that I have purchased over the years, I would have been able to afford the surgery a lot sooner! If my employers elected to include breast reductions coverage under their insurance plans, I would have had it done a long time ago. I better digress before I go off on a tangent. Anyway me having to self-pay makes it more valuable to me and reinforces how much I really want this. I planted a lot of seeds in the my proverbial garden over the years and the roots have now taken hold! I am excited to finally be getting my breast reduction at the age of 51.
The pictures posted here are pre-op so you can see my starting point. The first thing the doctor said to me is these are way too large for your size. I truly love his candid no waste of words consultation style. It suits me the best. But it onically, his first observation is the answer to a question that he would ask me within the next 10 minutes of my consultation. “Why do you want to get a breast reduction after all this time?”
With that I and all the pains and discomforts I suffered over the years, I know that it is my time now.
I will post a follow-up after when the procedure is complete. Thanks for letting me share.

Hi Twinmom,
I am so very anxious; the reduction is all I can think about! I am busy trying to pre-plan to include cooking some foods I may want to eat. I go to pre-opt on the day prior to the surgery and can hardly for next week to come. I don’t think I could have ever anticipated feeling this way! I think the biggest challenge I will have is finding the correct pillow. What is your surgery date? I will post after pictures as soon as I feel up to it post surgery. I am excited for you as well good luck and I hope that your wait passes fast!

Thank you so much!! I'm scheduled for Nov 13th!! I'm in Jacksonville, FL. I just got the news today that insurance is approved!! So excited!!!
October 25, 2017
Ok the approval and the date are both great news! Hug yourself a few times. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my employer chose not to cover this type of coverage regardless of the medical indications. I am guessing there where no women consulted when deciding what coverages to include. You know, but people without this burden are more likely to be non-sympathetic and categorize it as a cosmetic procedure. Well, nonetheless. I am blessed to be able to self pay. I thank God that the ability to pay came when my tolerance for my large breast has seemed to become unbearable. I am ready and excited! No doubts!

Sounds like you made the right decision for yourself! My advice is just to communicate really clearly with your surgeon on the size you want and show example photos! I am really disheartened when Iread reviews from women who were left way too large after their surgery! Im sure everything will go smoothly for you though. Good luck.

Isabelle,
My dr. said that I would be a size C after the reduction. I imagined a D because I have been so large for so long. I thought that a C would be too drastic, but on second thought I decided to go with the C in hopes of more freedom and flexible options for a fuller life.
Thank you!

Best thing I ever did. I have not regrets and wished I kick myself for not doing it sooner. I wish you luck and take care of yourself.

Bodydouble,
Thank you for your encouraging good news. I am very excited for Friday to arrive but I have been trying to suppress my feelings so that I will not be so anxious. I just finished reading Acohollydolly’s posting and it is a little frightening that total control is in the hands of others, some not as skilled and attentive as others. She is such a great writer and has effectively expressed her terrible experiences. I have seen some others on the site that I feel have literally complained about nothing, and over exaggerates. I know that it is psychological and emotional based feelings, their patience was just low. I have seen others that I think were looking for perfection. All-inall, we all have a right to feel however we do about our own bodies. But,I do feel; however, that most of the images posted would satisfy me if my procedure were to turn out as theirs. So. I guess that is good news! I am looking forward to Friday and hope that everything turns out for the best. It is somewhat scary, but I will just hold my breath and jump into the water feet first and pray for the best outcome!

1. You have to put your faith in your physician. 2. Some people do post negative experiences but let me put you at ease. Some people will never be happy and want perfection. I used to be a surgical nurse and assisted in the very procedure I did and you are about to have. The patients who have been burdened with the pain and discomfort of lugging this tig o bitties around are so over the top pleased that they are thrilled. The ones who are unhappy could have had an incompetent surgeon but I am sure some are also looking for perfection. I am still healing and feel great and fit better in my clothes. Hell, I can go bra-less and no one would know. Are they perfect No. One breast is slightly bigger then the other. Can anyone else tell when looking at them No. I see it because I am wearing it. But let me tell you. I am over the moon with my results. I also know that it takes 1 full year to recover from a surgery so things might change and balance out. In the end I had a doctor that I trusted. Recovery that was easy and not really painful. But most important realistic expectations with results that went WAAAAAY beyond my expectations. I am a a happy camper with 16 year old boobs. Don't fret. Keep your eyes on the prize and enjoy your new life because it is a new beginning. Most importantly take good care of yourself. Drink lots of water. Take a stool softner (trust me) and eat right. If you need anything. Just message me. Good luck.

It’s great to hear such positive feedback. I am at the 2 day count down. I got a call from the surgery center today and I have to be there at 5:45 A.M. on Friday. My pre-op is tomorrow.

I ArrivedOctober 27, 2017
I am sitting in the reception room this very moment waiting my time for an efficient medical professional to speedily open the door secured by a punch in combination lock. The reception room was overly crowded for 5:45 a.m. in the morning, each and every person keeping their personal secrets of what made them arise before the sun has even had its morning yawn. The air in the room is complementary of an automatic fragrance of Hawaiian florals and of ready brewed coffee available to the patient and their transporters. I sit here having made a great decision to make a life altering change that will greatly improve the quality of life. It’s my turn it! Talk to you on the other side!

Two day post-op ( on the other side)
I ArrivedOctober 29, 2017
Let me start out by saying that I’m a little groggy, so I will not fall. Surgery went well, the doctor said it looked great. I stayed in recovery room for extra long time because I was too groggy to leave. After arriving home I stayed in bed and slept most the day often on taking Percocet for the first day. The second day which is today , I decided not to take any more Percocet and switched over to extra strength Tylenol. I took my first shower today as well, I was scared to take a shower, but it was actually quite revitalizing! Are they eating light meals all healthy things and taking anabiotic’s as well and nausea medicine that she threw up one time on the first day. My breast are very swollen as they should be and I’m still kind of groggy again in an out. My body sore but is manageable. Oh by the way I am happy with my breast nice! Good luck to you wall who are waiting the procedure I hope it turns out well for you.

Sorry about all the mistakes in my posting, but I’m speaking into the phone and is being translated to whatever the smart phone thinks I said.

Wow what a great change! Life will be so much easier for you now! Just keep resting and take it easy :)

October 31, 2017
Congratulations!!! It's crazy that you took a shower 2 days after. We had our surgery the same day, and I'm only comfortable giving myself wash ups for now. And the strength you have to stop taking thw pain medicine! Go you!

Congrats on your procedure! Each day gets exponentially better. I chose to discontinue the narcotics because of the feelings of the side effects. I felt loopy. I stopped the meds and switched to Tylenol on day two. By day four my head cleared a whole lot. But I have taken it slow physically as recommended. You will get there in your time. Everything was scary, but each day is less so.

I went to your thread. Well, I see why your shower was a bit more delayed, you had a whole system connected to you. You are doing great! I am excited about your progress! I go to my first post-op consultation on Monday.

My recovery is going pretty well besides yesterday I put on a too tight bra that rubbed a little against my incision lines and caused a little bleeding where the sutures are but nothing too alarming! So, when you switch your bra make sure it doesn't rub. Good luck with your post op appointment. Continue to heal well!

I have a little here and there but that seems to be normal. But I did already experience rubbing on my left side and a bubble developed which seems have drained the self mostly over one day. But it was very sore from rubbing.
Thanks for sharing the encouraging words! They certainly serve as confirmation. I have the same feelings about having to carrying this addition weight as I age. I can’t begin to imagine how debilitating it would be to endure this excessive weight on my upper body for the remainder of my life. It is limiting enough now. My shoulders would never make it. I’m pretty sure that I have at least 20 years left. I will live those and any additional years as the best years of my life. I saw a 71 year old in the forum that had just received a reduction. She is as happy as you. This is definitely the way to go!
