opus ruined my face and neck

I was invited to a presentation of the Opus Plasma device through a provider I have used before. They were offering a special so I purchased 2 treatments. I decided to get the Opus Plasma treatment because I had areas on my face that were getting splotchy and dry and to help with texture and as a preventative measure to tighten up my jawline and neck. My first treatment was in September 2020. It was painful but tolerable. After the first treatment there wasn't a big change. When I went in for the second treatment in November my provider said she was going to treat me on a higher setting so hopefully I would not need any further treatments. She said I had neck lines and she was going to make them go away. The procedure was extremely painful this time. Afterward my face and skin have been destroyed. My forehead and eybrows dropped, my eyes are droopy, the skin all over my face is paper thin now and it all dropped and sagged, my jawline is gone and my neck is loose and feels like it all of the skin is detached. I also got a burn on my lip. My provider is working on the lip but claims the opus could not have caused the other things and it will take time for collagen to build and things to tighten. It is not my imagination. I have been sick ever since my November treatment. Sleepless nights, anxiety, depression and I don't know what can be done to fix it. The stress of it all is killing me. I have had some fillers to try to fill things in but I wish I had never done this treatment. The loose skin is not going away. I waited this long to make a review because I was hopeful that my skin may tighten back up but it has not. Now I am trying to figure out what I can do to fix it - most likely I will need a facelift which is what I was trying to prevent. I hope nothing like this happens to anyone else.

As you can see, my face was extremely damaged and nobody really cares. I have PTSD and it has affected my well being. She didn't even offer a refund, not that it would have reveresed the damage but at least it would have shown she cared.

You're very brave woman for sharing your testimony with the hopes that you can both expose the treatment and the "doctor" who erroneously performed it m, but to also save other people from being harmed similarly. Please take care. I will be following your journey closely.

OMG I am so sorry for your experience. I'm schedule for my first treatment and now seriously thinking twice about it. I am 68 years old :(

I would definitely recommend PRF & Sculptra mixed together. LED red light/near infrared light therapy. Collagen, elastin, keratin, hyaluronic acid, silica magnesium, and astaxanthin supplements. Micro needling w/ PRF and hyaluronic acid. Alpha hydroxy acid skincare. Highly recommend a full facelift, brow lift, neck lift, upper eyelid lift, lip lift, and fat transfer. The plastic surgeon that specializes in facelifts that I personally want to go to in the future is Dr. Andrew Jacono, MD, https://www.newyorkfacialplasticsurgery.com/

Who was your provider? I live in Houston and have been looking into this… I want to make sure I’m doing enough research!

Photos after 2nd procedure that ruined my face

deedee911

For some reason I am having a difficult time getting these on here - I couldn't upload them with the original review. These photos show the loose skin as a result of the 2nd procedure. I am also trying to post current photos showing the skin never returned to normal and now it's very thin and fragile and saggy. I have gotten thousands of dollars of fillers - trying microneedling to thicken the skin. I am looking for professional recommendations to try to repair this damage. I feel like ultimately I am going to have to get a facelift.

I'm canceling my appointment after reading this!

Me too . Oh my goodness. Scared the daylights out of me . Geez, poor thing . I’ll stick with fillers until it’s time for a lift
July 15, 2021
Sorry to hear that happened. Were you getting any other services done during all of this? I had one treatment and had the opposite experience. It hurt a little, but not too terrible thanks to some numbing ointment they put on me. I got smoother tighter skin and couldn’t be happier. Hope things get better for you!

No, I only had the Opus. The first one was ok. The second one I believe they went way too high on the settings. The skin on my face and neck is now extremely loose, thin and crepey. My forehead dropped as well. I don't know that anything can reverse the damage that has been done. I'm thinking of trying PLLA threads to help thicken my skin.
July 22, 2021
I wonder if a peel or something like that would help? No idea what settings were used on me, but I got really good results. Face was red for about 2 days then I had these little scabby things for a couple of days. They all fell off eventually and once my face was healed I was super happy. They were really strict on me avoiding the sun and using some cream they gave me, so not sure if where you went told you that or not. Hope you get it fixed either way!

A peel is not going I help. I did not get in the sun and I used special creams. My best friend owns a med spa and I am also laser certified. The person that did the procedure on me went too high on the settings. My face was burned and looks like it melted. It aged me 5-10 years. My skin is now very thin, crepey and sagging. I am considering threads and sculptra to try to thicken it but that will not correct the damage done to my eyelids. My forehead skin is even loose. It's ridiculous. I will most likely have to get a facelift to fix my jawline and neck. I hate how I look and am embarrassed to be seen.

I have also had two treatments and am happy with the results. Little resldness and sand paper feeling a few days later. Texture improved.

I don't understand why OP come in here and only talk about their positive experience without showing the respect and deference to the person who experienced the negative effect in the review that they're commenting on. We're all happy you had a positive effect, perhaps you should write your own review separate from this poster's review. Thanks.

To the poster, I see and validate the damage you have incurred. I think you're probably right that the second treatment was set too high in an effort to try to compensate for what they thought was a less than optimal treatment the first time. Prudence must always be taken with these high energy devices, and "turning it up higher" rarely produces good results. It appears it destroyed your facial fat, which is connective tissue between your skin and your bone. I doubt very seriously that peels or facial creams or even threads are going to help that deep deficit. I would lean more towards facial fat replacement with a facelift, which will give your skin the support that it needs both fundamentally and surgically. In the meantime, please take care. I'm sorry this happened to you through no fault of your own.

Tuffy2U: Thanks for pointing out that: if it's so great, post a review. And respect the person who's going through this pain. It makes me frustrated when they do that, it's so unkind. We should support each other.

Absolutely best comment suggested so far… Also, Keeping this in mind for my future as I’ve loss some much volume.

This happened to me as well. After only one treatment. Have you gotten your money back or compensation?
July 16, 2021
No, unfortunately they did not issue a refund but told me I needed to wait for collagen to build no tighten..... this is not happening. It has already been 8 months. It just keeps getting worse.

I would love to know the timing of the pictures! How long after your second treatment were the pictures taken?
November 11, 2021
The photos of my face melting were taken within the week after treatment. I have daily photos and you can see my skin dropping as if my face melted. My forehead drooped, my eyes changed shape, my jawline drooped. I have fat atrophy all over and it has only gotten worse. My skin is now thin and fragile all over and I look like a completely different person. I'm sure the anxiety and stress from being damaged didn't help.

A little over one year update of what’s happening to my forever ruined face.

deedee911
My face is swollen every morning and has expanded. It keeps getting wider. I have not gained weight. My skin has become extremely thin, fragile, loose and stretched out. Here are some of my recent photos. I miss my cute face with minor imperfections. I am researching doctors looking for one local to me in Houston but haven’t had any consults yet. I need a doctor that is experienced in this type of damage. It’s a disaster. I am uploading 10 photos as that’s the limit. I will make a second post with more photos once this one has been approved. If anyone has any experience with doctors that deal with this damage in the Houston/Texas area please let me know.

I live in NY, and I fully sympathize with what you are going through. I had the treatment done in October, 2021, a few months ago. I only did one, and since I expressed my interest in only doing one for starters, the MD Increased the juice during the entire treatment hoping to maximize the effects. However, what he did was actually scar my face. I go to a physician whom my husband knows for years. My husband is also a doctor (Neurologist). I usually go to this doctor for just botox. I was contemplating threading, and God literally intervened with this one. I am so grateful I didn’t do threading with this man because he didn’t know what he was doing with the laser. While I was there for Botox, he said I got this new machine. But meanwhile he moved away from lasers a long time ago. I’m an RN, but like an idiot, I didn’t look into it on my own. I trusted him and said okay let’s give a shot. For starters, he put a local anesthetic and waited 40 minutes for it to numb my face. With that being said, it was the most painful experience of my life, and I have a very very high tolerance for pain. It was worse than child birth. My legs were shaking, and my face was burning, but all I kept thinking was the results are going to be awesome, just deal with it. My whole body was getting jolted. Afterwards, they put an ointment on my face. They had no aftercare instructions. The MA who assisted said to keep my face hydrated. I asked with what, regular creams? She said yes, use whatever you have. Now being an RN and having my raw skin exposed, that didn’t seem right. So I asked again, I can use Lancôme? Are you sure? Yes honey, just use whatever you have. Well needless to say, when I went to dab a tiny amount on one part of my face because it still didn’t feel right to use regular creams, I thought my face was going to peel off right then and there. I told my husband I needed a natural heavy ointment… Aquaphor. He ran out to get it for me. I doused my face and finally got some relief. My face was burning so much, and I was in so much pain. Aside from that, I was scared to death from what I looked like. The MD assured me, my face was going to get drastically better with each passing day. Well almost three months later, I don’t see any positive effects and I was now left with three major scars. Some of the hypo/hyperpigmentation has corrected itself but I have a cut scar on my nose as if someone took a razor blade to it. In the beginning, I was so afraid it was going to turn into a keloid because it was extremely inflamed. But now, it’s a red, cut scar if you know what I mean. I’ve been treated my a dermatologist with steroid creams and using scar guard, but I think the healing has reached its plateau. It hasn’t softened or changed in about a month. It’s a red line but when looking closely, you can see the jagged white scar underneath. I also have two crater scars near my jawline that are hyper-pigmented. If I use Triluma, which I use to treat my Malasma that I have on my upper lip, it makes the scar redder, and it’s probably due to the steroid cream that is a component of Triluma. These two back to back scars are oval in shape, reddish brown and silvery white as if the dermis layer of my skin was scooped out. It is not repairing itself. It looks like an acne scar (crater face). My third scar is on the left side of me face near my ear. That is hyperpigmentation more than anything else, but it is not lightening. I have a consult with a plastic surgeon, but I’m not sure if there is much he can do. I had really beautiful skin beforehand, and my Botox every six months was enough! I don’t think educating myself about this machine beforehand would have helped anyway because I only see positive reviews and all of the so-called “incredible” benefits This was the first negative comment I’ve seen, and I’m so happy you posted it. I never write reviews, but I felt it necessary after reading yours. We both have different issues but do not have positive results and feel like our faces are ruined. I was crying again tonight, so when I started looking into it again, I found this post. I’m going to end with this, the arrogant MD who thinks he’s the King at Botox, which I can do on myself with my eyes closed, told me in the office, that he told the woman who came to train him on the machine to get the heck (putting it nicely) out of his office because he claimed she didn’t know anything about the technology or how it works. Perhaps you should have stuck around for that training Doc because neither do you!! I’m not blaming the machine necessarily because I do hear a lot of positive things about it. I’m blaming the doctor and his technique. I don’t think he was familiar with the machine. He never went through the training. He increased the energy during the first session when it’s supposed to be done gradually over three. It was too painful to be normal, and he provided absolutely no aftercare instructions. I was scared to death in the beginning, and I’m actually lucky it didn’t turn out worse than it has because if I show you my pictures, they look nothing like the before and after pics of all of the other women I’ve seen. Anyway, I hope this was helpful. And I hope there is some treatment that can help your elasticity and thinning skin problem. I will keep you posted on what the plastic surgeon recommends after the consult… if anything at all. I may just be stuck with these scars. I have a feeling they are permanent now. Thank you for reading and good luck to all.

Please post this on the doctor's website on Google Yelp, this website, so that other women will be warned.
June 8, 2022
can you explain how it would cause loose skin? I think you look good, loose skin but I can pull skin to look like that before too
June 9, 2022
I went to consult with a plastic surgeon who told me my skin was damaged so badly that I am still retaining fluid under my skin. The treatment destroyed my collagen. I'm still recovering over a year and a half later. I will have to get a facelift to correct the sagging skin. I have fat atrophy everywhere and my skin is loose and stretchy. My skin was not that way prior to the procedure. My forehead dropped, my eyes don't look the same - well nothing about my face has ever looked the same following the OPUS. The provider went up too high on the settings.

Please try lymphatic drainage before you do a facelift

Would love to see pictures, my doctor is recommending this treatment

Obviously I posted alot of photos.

Did you get opus done for skin tightening? My plastic surgeon says it is supposed to help start tightening the skin once turn 50. I told him about your case and how I don’t want it. He said he has never heard of this problem and is researching how it can “melt” fat as that should not be possible. Have you done other lasers? I wonder what is considered safe then if this happened to you? We want fat not it to melt
September 30, 2022
It destroyed my skin. It’s very thin and crepey and stretchy now. Lost all collagen and strength. It absolutely did not tighten my skin, instead it got so thin that it just basically is falling off. The provider told me to allow time for collagen to build but it did the opposite. I’m almost at 2 years.

I had one treatment of fraxel laser done with an RF microneedle and have major volume loss, there are literally scars on my neck where is was supple. I went from looking 29 to if you look at my face 45. I wonder if some men just hate women and ruin their faces on purpose by turning up the power. (He did 4 passes of the laser and RF microneedle in one sitting). But honestly, starting to notice that women who get lasers done seem to have this even if they don't recognize it was dobe by the laser. They might get a few gentle treatments over the years and not realize that their face would look better if they had done nothing.

Hi this is unbelievable and I'm so sorry this happened to you from untrained estheticians!! I'm an owner of a medical spa and wellness studio. I wanted to recommend doing lymphatic drainage on the full body you will see a huge difference with swelling and inflammation
