So my reason for getting a Rhinoplasty was because of my dorsal hump, as well as my tip which had an indent (a cleft tip). I had been wanting this surgery since I was about 15 when they took profile pictures before I got braces on... I was horrified at what I saw! Ever since then I was very self conscious, and would cover my nose when I crossed the street, or reposition myself at social functions so people wouldn't see me from the side.

I finally began to seriously research clinics last summer. My initial problem which I realized not long ago, is that I was picking places based on clinic reviews, and not specific Doctor reviews. I found a clinic in my hometown which had high ratings, so I emailed them for a consultation appointment. Since I had a referral from my family Doctor, I was able to have to consolation fee waived.

When I met the Doctor, he was super sweet and understanding. He listened to all my needs and never made me feel rushed. When he found out I had a referral because I was domestically assaulted, hence my broken nose and problems breathing, he was very sympathetic and let me know he would sent out a request to the health ministry to have the septoplasty portion of my procedure covered.

It was a long process to have my case reviewed, and eventually found out 7 months later that I got approved! So now it was a matter of booking my surgery date, which I booked out another 3 months out so I could figure out my work situation.

I had my surgery on June 2nd, so I am 5 days post op. I got my cast off today, and I am horrified at how swollen I am. I swear I am much more swollen than many peoples profiles I have seen on real self. I am questioning myself because I really wish I had done more research and picked my Doctor based on his personal reviews - not the clinic reviews. His reviews aren't that bad, but he is by no means a "nose specialist."

My doctor is so sweet and has been nothing but good to me, but I hope I did not make a huge mistake by going along with him based on his manner and not by his reviews..which I can't find much of :(

Recovery is overwhelming especially when the initial result isn't as expected but please give your body time to heal. You are so early in recovery and I'm certain you have swelling that will go down. My face looked like a brick for about two weeks after the surgery. It took a good month to look even close to normal. And I'd say it took over four months to get most of the swelling down. So please don't freak out yet.

Thank you for this! It's comforting knowing someone else looked like a brick lol. Some people say they liked how their nose looked right after the cast came off, and then it swelled an hour or two afterwards. Mine did not look nice when he took off the cast and was immediately swollen.. I never saw any shape, definition, etc. Did you find you liked your nose right after the cast was taken off?

I burst into tears after my cast was removed. I wasn't happy or sad, just overwhelmed. I was in regret mode by that time so my head was already spinning. I liked that my bump was gone but from straight on my nose had a noticeable bend in it so naturally I freaked out. I did call the doctor in tears the next day and he assured me I was swollen and that he'd do whatever to help. It took a couple months to straighten out (mostly bc of uneven swelling) but I'd say I'm 90% straighter now so I'm relieved. But I didn't like my new nose after the cast was off. It took a while for me to forgive myself for going thru with surgery. I'm over it now. Nose is straighter and the bump is gone. So I can look back and definitely say I have a wonderful improvement. But the journey wasn't a walk in park. My face was very swollen between my eyes and throught out my face for a good month so that's why I said I looked like a brick. Lol :) Hang in there.

Hey, dont stress. Its ok to feel like this. I was so swollen I couldn't open one eye. Even 1 month post I'm still swollen and have the last weirdness from the black eyes (puffy, dark circles) just rest, ice, do what your surgeon says. And keep reaching out for support. I swear, even the few ppl that wrote back to me when i was feeling really down helped so much!
Keep us updated and good luck! [RS bleep]
