I'd been pouring through reviews trying to decide...

I'd been pouring through reviews trying to decide if CoolSculpting is a good idea. I'm 5'7", 150 pounds and 10 pounds from my goal weight of 140. I've had a terrible belly pooch since I can remember. I was a very heavy child. Over the years, I've lost weight and gained weight but the pooch never budged. At one point I weighed 130 pounds and it was STILL THERE. After reading about 15000 reviews I finally decided to do it.

The general consensus I gained from reading was that if you were close to your goal weight, were still planning to stick to your healthy diet and exercise routine, and had reasonable expectations for the procedure, CoolSculpting was "great."

So, I did it. One treatment for each side of my never ending belly pooch. The procedure was not bad AT ALL. For some reason, the days leading up to my appointment I seemed to have read more of the "unbearable pain" reviews and really psyched myself out. The day of, I checked in, slipped into some fancy hospital clothes, and took my before photos. The nurse explained what to expect, traced the shape of the small applicator onto my stomach, and we got started. (Some people take offense to the sharpie on your skin portion of procedure and I'm honestly not sure why. Don't you want them to know exactly where to place the applicator? Sigh...)

For the first three minutes after the applicator is applied, your skin feels like you've put an ice cube against it and let it sit too long. It is sort of a "burning" sensation, that isn't great albeit, but I'd call it more uncomfortable than painful. After those first few minutes, your skin goes numb. Each application lasted for 35 minutes and because of my desired location, they could only do one side at a time. You'll have a lot of downtime so you can Netflix and chill while you wait.

After removing the applicator, the nurse explained that she would be doing the massaging portion of the procedure, and this is were I started to worry. Some of the reviews described the massage with "tears running down their face", "the most unbearable pain they've ever felt", and a "10 out of 10 on the pain scale." - IT.WAS.NOTHING. I really didn't even feel it. I could kind of tell that someone was touching me, but even that was a stretch.

The other side was the same experience. After finishing, my stomach was pretty red at the applicator sites. The nurse gave me a waste compression wrap and told me to wear it if I feel uncomfortable or my stomach is tender.

I wore the wrap home, slept in it actually (just in case) and then wore it to work under a dress the next day. My stomach is tender. The best way I can describe it is that it feels like I did 50 sit-ups after a month of sitting on my butt.

I'll post before and after pictures as soon as I have them on hand! I hope this review helps if you were concerned about the painfulness of the procedure. Cheers!
