Day 1
I visited Ageless Beauty Center in Okemos, MI after purchasing a gift certificate at a silent auction for an "Unpeel" treatment. After consultation, Darlene recommended the VI Peel for better results. She began the procedure by wiping my face with Acetone on a cotton ball to remove all oils. She then applied the VI Peel liquid. Since there is a strong odor, she did have a fan running the entire time.
There is definitely an uncomfortable sting when the stuff is first applied but it goes away quickly as a numbing agent in the treatment kicks in. The application left my skin looking slightly tan (like I used too much bronzer) and a little sticky.
I left the peel on until I went to bed (about 8 hours), washed it off with the provided gentle cleanser and applied the first towelette. This was followed by a generous application of the protectant (active ingredient is hydrocortisone.)
As recommended I did nothing that resulted in sweating in the first 24 hours since evidently that has an adverse impact on the peeling process.
Day 2
On the first morning after application I washed my face with the provided cleanser again and used the protectant and SPF provided. I did re-apply the protectant several times throughout the day since my skin felt incredibly dry.
I did a one hour aerobic workout at my gym that evening which produced a fair amount of sweat. The sweat made my skin a little itchy but the hydrocortisone in the protectant helped improve things. I also take Zyrtec daily - which I believe helped too. Itchiness is a common side-effect of the VI Peel.
That night I washed my face with the cleanser and used the second towelette before bed. I applied a generous amount of the protectant after that.
Day 3
Peeling begins on the third day after the VI Peel solution is applied. On the morning of Day 3, I performed a vigorous workout which resulted in lots of sweating. The sweat seemed to be unable to break through the crust on my face (which is how it felt at that time - a stiff crust), however it seemed to help get the peeling process started.
By noon on Day 3 I experienced significant peeling that began around my mouth. It migrated out from there toward my cheeks.
As recommended, I continued to apply the protectant and SPF as the peeling started but found it nearly intolerable due to the stinging and pain created by it. I switched to pure organic coconut oil as a moisturizer - which didn't sting or provide any discomfort at all. However, as a moisturizer the coconut oil wasn't enough.
Before bed I applied the third and final towelette followed by lots of coconut oil.
Day 4
Significant peeling continued on the fourth day but I also found my skin to be extremely dry and in need of constant moisture. I ended up buying Aquaphor to apply over the top of the coconut oil. This actually seemed to work pretty well - especially as an overnight treatment. I used up the protectant (even with the stinging) and then switched back to my regular day time skin care routine (Estee Lauder CP & R + an under eye cream.) I continued to add the Aquaphor as needed.
Day 5
Peeling was almost finished. Aquaphor is a life-saver.
Day 6
As I write this review, I'm on Day 6. I'm still using the Aquaphor liberally as well as most of my normal skin care products.
I was advised to wait 10 days before applying my retinol products again in order to let the PH of my skin rebalance.
So far the results are good but my skin is extremely dry.
