After having an accident in my 20's that broke my jaw and shifted my teeth, I was suddenly faced with dental procedures and surgeries. Up until then, I had a pretty great smile and healthy teeth. Never in a million years did I expect to encounter the oral surgery/restoration worlk at 21, but I did. Long story short, after having my mouth wired shut for three months, periodontal and tooth restoration work for almost a year, I could finally get braces. After my consultation for braces, I decided for regular clear braces and let me tell you, I WAS IN PAIN FOR WEEKS! I know I am not the only one that has had the bleeding lips, tongue, sore teeth/lips, painful jaw and much more. But what I can say is that after more than ten years of having my regular braces removed and having to replace some of the restoration work, I was very much looking forward to Invisalign.
I have been working on my restoration for three years and can finally do Invisalign. After several consultations with various providers and all of them giving me the same treatment plan to do Invisalign, I knew it was the right choice for me. Having that as my final goal, knowing how much I had to save and knowing the expectations was all I needed, if only time would go by faster so that the three years of work would fly by and I could focus on my bite and lets face it, aesthetic look.
I am on tray #1 of #21 and hope that is how far I have to go, but I WILL NOT stop until my teeth are just where I imagined them to be. I can appreciate everyone's set backs and pains as they go through treatment but for me, it is nothing compared to having bleeding lips. I was fully prepared to have sore teeth and difficulty chewing as well as awkwardness when dining out. I just face it as I would any other change I would make to my appearance. Outside of getting a haircut, changing any part of our bodies such as getting fit, correcting our posture, physical therapy, and orthodontist are not different. No pain no gain, so I will grin and bear it until the results I set my eyes on have been articulated.

Finally done!
It's been a long process (mainly because I have little patience) but worth every minute. I am wearing retainers now and am so happy with the results.

I just finished with Invisalign and had disastrous results. Your teeth look lovely. Do you mind if I ask
If that's your actual bite? Are you biting down on your back teeth? I'm trying to figure out what went wrong with mine. Wearing braces now and devastated.

Because of my prior dental history (broken jaw), most of my molars are crowns and my bite is slightly deviated. For the picture I posted, I wanted you to see all my teeth. I just updated a pic with my actual bite.

I am sorry to hear that Nancy. There are so many things that could have gone wrong and without knowing the entire experience it is hard to tell. All I know is that my dentist was incredibly involved in the process with the manufacturer and we even did refinements after my last tray. There are some cases where Invisalign is not the best fit for the patient. I had three consults and all agreed it was the best fit for me.

Thank you for responding. I had three consults. All dentists concurred that my case was very straightforward.

Sorry, I must have hit the wrong thing before I was done. Nancy is now Myscab. I had braces as a child. One bottom tooth became crowded over time. Otherwise, I have/had beautiful teeth with near perfect bite. After Invisalign my one crooked lower tooth was straight, but I was left with a posterior open bite. After the last tray I only had two teeth touching in my entire mouth. Obviously, I couldn't chew very well and was biting my cheek. My orthodontist felt that a refinement was not the answer. So, I now have braces and my bite does not seem to be improving. I have researched online and it appears that Invisalign can and often does leave patients with an open bite such as mine. It has something to do with the thickness of the plastic... I also believe my dentist should have noticed that something was going terribly awry during my treatment. He could have done a refinement before the end of treatment. My dentist came highly recommended by another orthodontist. He is board certified which is not the norm. I definitely did my homework before choosing him. I would love to get a second opinion, but have no idea who I can turn to now for an unbiased plan of action. I live in Palm Beach, FL. Maybe someone on this site will see my post and recommend a dentist anywhere in southeast FL. You were very lucky to have such good results. Your teeth look beautiful. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond.

Thank you very much. They look great. You're very lucky. When I started my Invisalign journey it was to fix one crooked tooth on the bottom. My bite was perfect from prior othodonture done when I was a child. After completing 19 trays over 38 weeks I now have a mouthful of braces to correct a bite that is not only unattractive. My smile is now crooked and my bite does not function well mechanically. Since I only had one tooth that was out of alignment I was told I was a perfect candidate for Invisalign. I am a perfect example of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it." So happy you had great results. Best of luck! :(
