A recent traffic accident left me with a variety of facial injuries that required treatment from a skilled reconstructive surgeon. I was lucky to come under the care of Dr. Guida.
I had a number of injuries – a broken nose, a deviated septum, and a variety of deep lacerations – that needed treatment. To most people these may be characterized as minor, but to someone like me, whose livelihood depends on constant exposure to clients, customers, and the media, the conditions were decidedly much more than minor.
If I had to pick a word to describe how I felt as I waited for my first appointment with Dr. Guida it would be ‘apprehensive.’ I was very nervous and concerned about what his treatment would entail and what the outcome might be. The best word to describe how I felt after meeting Dr. Guida would be ‘reassured.’ He gained my trust and confidence immediately. His calm presence, extensive knowledge and ability to answer my questions allowed me to remain at ease throughout the entire treatment process, which spanned the course of seven months and many visits. What really comforted me was that it was clear that he took my injuries as seriously as I did. He made me feel that treating me and arriving at the best possible outcome was his number one priority.
From the moment of our first visit through the day of my surgery and to our subsequent follow up appointments, Dr. Guida and his team impressed me with their compassion, kindness and patience. Dr. Guida went above and beyond what I could have ever imagined when it came to working around my demanding work schedule. He even performed my scar revision procedure on Christmas Eve.
As a result of Dr. Guida’s considerable skill and precision, my injuries are now just an unpleasant memory. My raised scars have dissolved. My nose, which I despaired would ever be the same, is fully repaired. My septum has been carefully realigned and I can now breathe with ease. Dr. Guida had a detailed a plan for pain management but I was fortunate in that I never experienced pain during the process, only some minor discomfort.
