I have been embarrassed by the extra tooth in the bottom row for as long as I can remember. Now that I am finally in position to afford them, I opted for incognito braces to avoid the outward appearance of metal. This is the worst pain I have ever felt in nun life. 2 days in and my speech is incomprehensible and my tongue is constantly being stuck by the side metal wires. This is like a torture device in my mouth. If I had to do it over again, I would get standard braces on the bottom because the wire stabbing my tongue is the major issue. I am supposed to wear these for a year to 18months and I honestly can't see doing this for a week. I am very upset that my doctor failed to adequately describe the pain or that I would be left literally speechless for work. At this time I would say runaway from these braces. The pain is too great. I will try to provide updates to help others.

I know how you feel . I was shocked when i got this braces . Couldn't eat or speak at all for 2 month . But It will get better . Go back to your ortho and ask to apply softflow on the wire ends . It's like a wax but they cure with light and it sticks there for a month or so . It helps a lot . Good luck

Thank you so much for the well wishes and your insight. I am going to ask my orthodontist for softflow asap! Thank you!

I also got a lingual brace 2 days ago but only the top. I'm getting a front brace on my bottom teeth in 2 months. The wire is really hurting my tongue too. Are you using wax to shield it? I'm sorry you are suffering. I'm only managing because my bottom teeth don't have a brace on yet, I think. Let's hope we have super smiles to make up for it...

Hi Patsy,
I saw my orthodontist yesterday and was given the wax to place on the ends of the wires. The wire on the bottom row is still stabbing my tongue, but the wax helped a great deal. I really wish I opted for the front brace on the bottom row as you did. I really think that it's less pain and the most cost effective approach. I needed to lose weight and I actually lost 10 lbs since I got the braces 5 days ago. So that was a happy surprise for me. I hope that you are feeling better than ever soon and that we both have great smiles soon! Best wishes!

Thanks - after 6 days the wires are digging in less and I've not used the wax all weekend! Let's hope these braces get more comfortable for us. x
