I got my implants about 12 years ago. I liked them for a few years and then just got tired of them. They just seemed so BIG and I found myself always trying to cover them up. I was never the type to show them off and frankly felt they looked tacky and unprofessional (I'm a school teacher). I even had smaller implants put in about four years ago but they weren't much smaller and I immediately realized I really just wanted them gone. This year I finally knew I had to get them removed, I couldn't stand them any longer! I ended up here on Real Self and learned about Dr. Park right here in my home town. I scheduled consultations with him and the original surgeon. I knew right away he was the right surgeon and his price was much less than the other surgeon, which I chalk up to real estate. Low overhead Oceanside vs. high-rent La Jolla! I was worried I might need to have general anesthesia but both surgeons determined an in-office procedure would be alright, thank goodness! I was willing to accept any sort of outcome aesthetically. I honestly expected droopy sad pancakes but am super pleased to see I have a good amount of breast tissue, and while super soft my breasts really don't look too bad.
The procedure took less than 45 minutes. I think I talked the entire time. Chatty Cathy! I had very little discomfort post surgery. I took the pain meds a few times just to be proactive, and after about 3 days it was obvious I didn't need any pain meds. I enjoyed not being able to go to the gym for 4 weeks while I healed, lol! I like how I feel after working out but don't like the working out part.
It has been just over a month since my surgery and I'm so grateful it went so well. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. I feel terrific and I no longer spend a second of my time "hating" my implants and feeling sad about how ridiculous I look. I feel natural and much more at ease throughout my day. I'm completely 100% confident in Dr. Park and his lovely staff. I'm also so grateful to all of you who share here. Best of luck to you in your quests to look and feel your best!

Hi! Congratulations on your explant. I'm so happy for you.
I'm having mine removed on Monday under local anesthesia and I'm kinda nervous about being awake. Could you share a little about your experience of the procedure itself? I'm trying to prepare myself for what to expect as far as the actual removal goes. I'm so nervous although I'm sure I shouldn't be. My implants have only been in for 3 weeks and 5 days and I cannot wait to have them out of me.
Thank you!

I took a mild sedative and an antibiotic at his office. During the actual procedure I was lying down and had a curtain up between my head and chest. If I recall correctly he injected the sight (mine were in the fold under the breast) with local anesthesia (just slight pin-prick sensations). The procedure consists of first draining the implant, then remove, then stitch me back up. So minor compared to the massive trauma involved in getting the implants put in. I was awake and aware the entire time. Easy! Best of luck! Wishing you a quick and uneventful procedure!

Thank you! You had saline? Mine are silicone so I'm told I'll feel tugging and pulling because they have to pull them out intact. I'm super nervous but that did give me Valium to take before and they'll be giving me some sort of shot before they numb me up. I just want to get it done already, the waiting is the worst :/

Yes, saline. So yours will be a little different, but still hopefully quick and painless!

A little different but yes, I'm praying for quick and simple lol. Thank you again for sharing your experience with me. It's been so helpful talking to ladies such as yourself who have gone through it already. It's a somewhat scary thought; being awake but I know I want them out of me.

The support here is amazing! The valium should help a lot. I was awake through my explant/reimplant a few years ago so I knew that I wouldn't feel anything painful, and the valium helps your mind not "freak out" about what's going on! Best of luck - freedom is just a few days away :)

Yes, the support is so amazing! I have found this site so helpful during this process. I plan to continue visiting and sharing/supporting long after my explant. If nothing else but to help other women the way you have helped me. I am so happy I have the Valium then lol..my PS said he's also going to give me a shot in my hip with something else to calm my nerves so hopefully with the two I have no idea what's going on haha
I can't wait! A little over 3 1/2 days left :)
Thank you again, for everything!

I hope you have a pain free experience! I am having mine out under local in a few months and I am super nervous too. Please let us know how everything goes including your recovery. It's nice to talk with other women going through the same experience! I just want to get mine out asap and move on with my life too! I understand how you feel.

I just made an appointment with Dr. Park as well. I live in Los Angeles so it is a bit of a drive but all the doctors Beverly Hills looked at me like I was crazy to ask for explants and also charged more than 4 times what Dr. Park charges. Dr. Park told me he has done many of these while the three doctors I consulted in Beverly Hills told me they had done one or two.
I can't wait to get these darn things out and I really appreciate this site and your comments. They make me feel like I made the right decision.

Great choice! I would make the drive for Dr. Park. He really put me at ease and he's very calm and competent - just what I want in a doctor!
