Looking good
$6,250
I just had my one week follow up. Dr. Karlinsky assured me that everything I'm experiencing is totally normal. She even mentioned that the bruises will be migrating downward. I was very bothered by extreme tightness, even pain at the jaw line. That's a little better today and she concurs that it's because she tried to be aggressive with my lift. I can see my cheekbones today and am feeling ok about going out tomorrow night. Overall, I'm happy. I think PSs should tell you more realistic timelines for recovery though. I mean even just telling you that the tissue will take months to fully settle into place sets more realistic expectations. I'll post pics when my husband has time to take a few for me.

Photo update
I have to update the review to post some before pics. The before shots are not that bad, I'm professionally made up after all. I took the others myself this morning, day 5 post op. I can't believe how the bruising has spread. And omg, the lumps on the side are terrifying.

Your bruising isnt too bad. Im just 4 weeks out...had a neck and facelift. Bruising goes quite quickly...its swelling im still dealing with. Ive read the 6-8 week mark gets easier...more feeling...lesd numb...less swelling. And 3-6 months start feeling normal again. Im counting down! What kind of lift did you get? How many hours were you in surgery? Hope your feeling bettet sweetie. It looks beautiful so far and will look better and better as healing progresses!
That info is in my post above. It's really good to hear that it takes weeks to start looking normal and feel less numb. The doctors should be more up-front about that stuff; it would pay off in fewer panicky phone calls to the office. I'm annoyed that this bruising popped up after like 4 days and it's quite dark now. Not sure if I have anything that will cover it for an event this Saturday. (Today is Thurs., my lift was last Thursday)
Looks like a great mini-lift.. Your doing well considering going out! Dermablend ia supposed to be good. I didnt leave house first 3 weeks! Was just too miserable!
Thank you! I've gone out mostly just to take my dogs to the park each day. I have some dermablend (sample pack), I'm going to use it. I think it helps healing to be up and about.
Please keep posting pictures - thanks!
Are the lumps permanent?
Your lovely.

Like the Nora Ephron book said, I feel bad about...
Like the Nora Ephron book said, I feel bad about my neck. Even more than the droop at the sides of my mouth, my droop under my chin drove me crazy. I had virtually no visible results on the neck from Ultherapy. I read a lot and was under the impression that a mini-lift will not make much of a difference under the chin. I talked with Dr. Karlinsky a few times about it and she said it wouldn't be perfect, but she could make a visible difference. She is meticulous and very professional and I really trusted her.
I was nervous and popped a valium shortly before we started. She gave me confidence as she made the marks on my face and spoke about avoiding any nerve damage with how she makes her incisions. I didn't realize she was going to do some kind of light lipo (after the Lidocaine and numbing shots) to loosen the flesh so she could get a tighter lift--she is normally rather conservative and I had asked her to be as aggressive as she felt she could be. The incision runs from high behind the ear, around the lobe and up the front. I was actually pretty relaxed during the whole thing and had no pain at all. She spent something like 45 minutes on each side, as I recall. My husband fetched me and I walked to the hotel 3 blocks away. The first night was fine and she was pleased with what she saw at the 24 hr check. I was full dosing the Percoset, so I don't have the clearest memories of that. But she had me look at my chin and she had taken up all the slack somehow, I know I'm still very swollen, but under my chin looks pretty miraculous. I was very freaked out on Day 3 that my right ear was totally numb, yet had some pain. And under the chin, it feels very tight--like when you spread glue on your skin when you were a kid and it dried. But I'm good with that, it's worth it. My upper cheeks are weird and lumpy, but she said that's totally normal. That's where I'm at now. I know it's hard to see the traumatized areas as they normalize, but I feel sure it'll be worth it.

Impressive that you were able to walk to the hotel after. Thanks sooooo much for sharing. I'll be checking back to see how you're healing as time goes on.
Good luck. I look forward to your future posts and wish you a speedy recovery. I am scheduled for Dec. 3 in NYC .... How is the pain factor?
I haven't found pain to be an issue at all. I quit taking pills by day three I think. I have other worries that I may address after my appt tomorrow with my PS.
Thanks for the reply. Look forward to your future posts. Glad to hear pain is not a big issue but always like to be informed on possible issues to look for just in case.
I've read you initial post twice and I can't quite tell-were you awake during procedure?!?
Ha, yes. I think one of the reasons people do the mini lift is because you can have local. Seriously, general anesthesia is a BFD. Sure the odds are you'll be ok, but people die all the time under G.A. But with the valium, I remember looking at that lipo tube and just thinking, oh cool. (I didn't have any fat removed, she apparently did that to separate the muscle)
That's awesome! I had an upper eye lid w/just Valium as well. Last 16mos have been undergoing breast cancer treatment & have had 3 surgeries, so I didn't really want to be "put under" again. Thanks so much for your reply! Oh, one more thing-ULTHERAPY? Not worth it?
Well, not just valium--local anesthesia :) Ultherapy--apparently it works for most people. My biggest 'thing' was under my chin. I got Ultherapy from the eyes down. And it didn't do a thing for the chin/neck, that's why I had the mini lift. But when Dr Karlinsky saw me in early October, she said she really thought there had been some results from the Ultherapy around my mouth area and I think she's right. But it took a really long time to show up, like several months.
Wow, best of luck on your cancer treatment. Please consider going vegan! We are vegan and there is a TON of evidence that meat and dairy feed cancer cells and definitely increase your cancer and heart disease risks. Google Dr. Michael Greger or PCRM.org. Be well!
Thanks for ALL the info Leosmom! Speedy recovery!
Funny story: before dawn this morning, my ear was bothering me again. (It's still numb) I was feeling something at the back side and all of a sudden, it came loose in my fingers. I bolted upright, terrified and yelped at my husband thinking some piece of my ear had fallen off. Would you believe---it was one of the little foam earplugs I wear? Not funny at the time.
You look great for so soon after surgery & will only improve over time. Bruising tends to drain down as time goes on. After my lower face lift the bruising drained all the way down to my chest. Physicians don't tell you what to expect because they have a "mind over matter" philosophy....if you're told it's going to hurt, look bad, etc. you will even if you don't. But yes, I agree, patients should be told exactly what to expect.
