WORTH IT
I have been seriously ill with fungal, viral and bacterial infections and symptoms including SOB, brain fog and burning pain in chest and other parts of my body to name a few. This progressed over the coarse of 11 years . I had been to many specialists, diagnosed with fibromyalgia, mild COPD, ground glass nodules in my lungs and other various medical problems. Before this time I had always been physically fit, ate a healthy diet and became deathly ill. I found an Infectious disease Dr. who diagnosed and is treating me for mycotoxin poisoning, one of which is pulmonary aspergillosis. After initially reviewing my medical history, she informed me that one of her patients had the burning chest pain and had her implants removed after 16 years ( same as me) The patient's implants were found to have black slimy mold around them. My Dr. told me I should have them removed ASAP. After doing some research I found that after many years the textured silicone on the outside of the saline implants become a powder like substance and leach into breast tissue and other parts and organs in the body. I began to read blogs on this site from women who were diagnosed with capsular contractures that caused them to have autoimmunity and had similar symptoms as myself. This explained why I became so vulnerable to all of the diseases and illnesses I had and why not one Dr. with the exception of my Infectious disease Dr. could put 2 + 2 together until meeting Dr. Christina Ahn. I read that I needed to have an en-bloc capsulectomy which is a highly more complicated procedure than just having a capsulotomy. Dr Ahn is an award winning expert in her field and was further able to explain what was happening to my body in the most amazing, compassionate way. She took the time I needed to have all my questions answered in a most caring way. Dr. Ahn was able to gain my trust despite the fact that I was very skeptical of most Dr.'s as I have been suffering for so many years with no help nor explanation until now. She thoroughly explained the process and how meticulous one must be in removing my 16 years of built up scar tissue that was encapsulated around my implants and attached to my chest causing compression and fibrosis to my chest wall. My muscles had shredded and she found several infections that caused necrosis in what used to be healthy breast tissue. The removal had to be done in this manner as to not tear the implant bag which could cause further infection and not to leave any scar tissue in chest to continue to cause autoimmunity due to continuous leaching of the textured silicone.
I am now dealing with three week post op recovery which after an 8 1/2 hour surgery and being so ill, I am up and around and finally able to even do my ADL's on my own thanks to Dr. Ahn. I was so ill that my husband had to help me with my ADL's and I have been disabled since last August. I believe we all have angels looking after us and I have been blessed with actually meeting three of them: my husband, Dr. Dr. Christina Ahn and my infectious disease Dr., Irene Grant. I am not a religious person but have always been very spiritual that helped me in this situation especially being so close to death. I have learned to go with your gut that leads you to people who feel passionate about what they do to help other people. Dr. Ahn is one of those people. She helped bring quality back to my life. I am blessed. THANK YOU, DR. AHN!

Hi..So Sorry to hear what you have been through. My story is almost the same as yours ,yet the doctors will tell you that silicon doesn't damage or travel through the body. I am 58 and implants for 28 yrs. So sick and having my ruptured implants removed this month hopefully.. I also have multible lung nodes-liver legions-fibromyalgia-lose of vision in one eye doctors don't know why.Brain fog memory lose -breast pain and the silicone has moved outside the ruptured implant and also into my arm pits which I knew straight away as the pain in my arm pits was so bad and now in my lymph nodes.. I thought can this get any worse !!!!! and had these symtoms for 7 years yet my gp who knows me well not once said it maybe your breast implants have ruptured..We would not have had this poison put inside our body if the people we are supposed to trust DOCTORS....WOULD HAVE TOLD US THE TRUTH...They are still not telling the truth after the facts are their.. I am spiritual too, maybe we were meant to get this information out their. Ihope you are healing well,I will feel better once mine are removed. So glad you have your 3 angels..That really would be so helpful. Let me know how your healing is going and thanks for your information I will ask about enbloc as well my doctor said op was about 3 hrs so I guess that would not include that ..so I am asking more questions after reading your blog..Thankyou so much. Your story is amazing and I hope you are going to feel well once again. Please keep us posted on your progress and I am sending good wishes your way. I think I may have been lucky to get them out when I did. When you mentioned all your infections it got me to thinking. Over the years I have had many bouts of bronchitis, sinus infections, and pneumonia 3 times. This last pneumonia in the winter, I actually felt I might break the implants with my deep coughing. Now I can see that would be entirely possible! Who knows, maybe I was vulnerable to those infections because of the implants. So glad they are gone!

So sorry to hear and glad you are feeling better. What a journey you have been on! It scares me to death. I am getting my implants out in the next month or so with Dr Feng in Ohio, she has done over 8,000 Explants and does them all En Bloc. I am actually traveling from Tampa to see her. I did a lot of research and even visited several Drs here in Tampa. What a joke! I would not let them touch me with a ten foot pole! They both wanted to put new implants in, do fat grafting, etc. I said no thanks, I am 54, have been sick and just want them out. The R side has deflated all the way and looks fine, I want them taken out before the other side might leak and make me sick again. I feel all those chemicals leaking into my body made me sick. I am finally starting to feel better and just want rid of them. Good luck to you and I hope you continue to feel better.

Basia, I too am 54 y.o. and having surgery with Dr. Feng on May 20th. I can't wait to get the implants out...it's been 27 years. I pray there isn't horrible leakage. Many blessings to you and if you want to keep in touch, please do!

Good luck. I feel you are in very good hands with Dr. Feng. I like that she is also a Micro Vascular Surgeon. I feel when she does the En Bloc she will be very delicate, an not take my small amount of breast tissue away. I was told she has never had an infection in her clinic and that she has always been able to get everything out, never failed! If you have any leakage I feel she is the most qualified to remove it. My implants are 22 years old now. Can not wait to get them out of my body. I would love to keep in touch and hear your observations of the clinic, etc. and if you get any tips or new info from them. What are they having you do to prepare for the surgery? I am trying to get as healthy and strong as possible beforehand. I am somewhat limited due to Mitral and Tricuspid Regurgitation. I get tired very easy. I just want to be in the best shape I can be prior to surgery. Good luck to you.

Hello Basia, they sent me strong vitamins, Bromelain and a list of foods, med's and supplents to not take prior to surgery. They suggested I bring blouses and zip up hoodies for recovery time. I got 2 post-op bras by Carefix from Amazon. I'm glad I chose Dr. Feng, although traveling and staying out of town after the surgery is not easy. i'll keep in touch. Best wishes. Do you have a date yet?
