My opinion after 7 months post op

First let me say I believe Dr Colton is a good surgeon. I’m 7 months post op and have had a tremendous amount of discomfort with hypertrophic scarring behind my ears. Also I still have lax skin under my chin on the neck. After 4 post op visits he has offered nothing in terms of aftercare. Today I asked for cortisone injections in my scars to reduce the raised lumpy scarring and he essentially turned me down. I got a second opinion from another PS who thought I would benefit from cortisone injections. Dr Colton was unwilling to treat them at today’s visit. Also the 2nd opinion PS did I should try Botox under my chin to help tighten up the skin under my chin by injecting the platysmal muscle. Seems it would be worth a try. But again Dr Colton was unwilling to provide any other solution other than a complete revision. I have indicated to him I’m not interested in going thru another surgery. He said to me “well no one asking you to”! Very rudely I might add. Yet that is the only option he’s offering me. Sorry I can’t give him a great recommendation as his after care sucks. He’s got his money and he’s done with you. Don’t bother coming back it’ll be for nothing!

I think you look much improved over the before picture and quite lovely overall. I am also dealing with hypertrophic scarring. Did your PS say he could revise the scars? Mine will likely do that, but I've been asked to wait a year post surgery.

he absolutely refuses to do much other than a revision. maybe in a few months I’ll reconsider a revision. But thank you for your kind words. I’m about 70% happy with the results.

I'm in the same boat. I like my look from the front and the side, but the scars are really problematic. I'm getting tired of always having to wear my hair down. I'm not sure there's a great solution other than a revision for bad scarring. The steroids can make the scars flatten out, but also get wider. My surgeon tried some laser treatments, but at this point it's a waiting game until I can get a revision. I think I'm going to try the embrace sheets.

I had the same experience as far as the surgeon offering any sort of alternatives. I think they won't say anything that can be interpreted that they did something wrong. I've heard this from others. As I noted in a comment, above, I am 3 years post op and the left side of my neck and under my chin remains numb and very uncomfortable. It feels as though someone is holding their hands around my neck all the time. And yet, with all that tightness, I have noticeable amount of drooping. I will tell you I did a thermage treatment on the lower portion as the jowling was returning so significantly, and for me it DID help. Tightened, definitely. Unfortunately, I have so much drooping in the areas that affect my mouth (which is why I did the Thermage - to try and tighten those areas so my speech would not be so severely affected), all the Thermage did was create a further speech complication. But, I think if I had done the Thermage on the entire check/lower check area, it would have had good results. I had Thermage done a few years back and saw less results than I saw this time. It might be something for you to research and consider. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. As many of us can attest, we know what you are going through :-(

At least he offered a revision doesn't sound like he's done with you. Mine didn't do any Aftercare accept 3 weeks after surgery then he was done with me. I'm not happy with my results and I'm hoping he will at least agree to a revision even though I do not want to go through it again but I want my money's worth one way or another thanks for your story. They act like that money is a drop in the bucket I don't get it how they treat people hope things work out.

Neck not Tight

I’m disappointed in my neck lift. Does this look like I need a revision? I think so! Wish I could get my money back.! I’m. 8 weeks post op but I understand I’m still healing but I was hopeful for better results. Don’t think this neck will get any smoother. All this for nothing!! My face even still looks wrinkled. I wasn’t expecting a miracle because I’m 70 years old but I’ve seen much nicer results on here.

Hello 2 months is still quite early to see the results. Lipo takes quite a while to settle down around 6 months. I am almost 70 and had lipo on my neck in October this year and I still have 3 hard ridges directly under my chin area but they are getting there. I massage twice per day without fail and this has helped tremendously. With face and neck it doesnt really get rid of wrinkles but it should tighten the sagging skin. Before any type of revision (I had a small revision on my after neck lift last year) you should wait at least 8/12 months.

i'm with you. i had my neck done on nov 1 and i don't think any of this is worth it. i have this area under my chin it is swollen and hard. my doc says not sure what it is. so waiting till jan to go back and see him. i know it will still be there i can just feel it. so i look worse than before because i didn't have a double chin. so wish i could go back and skip what i had done.

Aww sorry to hear you have had problems too. I think more people do have problems than don’t from what I read on here. Can’t believe anyone thinks it’s a walk in the park! I can’t believe your doctor doesn’t have an idea what your hard spot is. It’s all a waiting game for 6 months to see how things shake out. Good luck I hope you heal and improve!

I’m very early out. 5 days. But I def see what your seeing. I expect mine to settle quite a bit & my Dr was very honest about limitations with my neck.He was pleasant surprised mine went as well as it did.i think they make you wait 6 months for it to settle some but I’d def express your concerns to your Dr:( Sorry love! I am sure your disappointed. .

I do see what you see in the neck area and you may need a revision to be completely happy, but having said that, I think you look beautiful. You really look young and refreshed! wishing you all the best this holiday season and blessings in the New Year❤️❤️❤️❤️

Iur urgent is an improvement but it should have been bigger improvement. Why? Because you still have visible excess skin. Not good. within a year or to you skin will start sagging again. Have you considered Laser to tighten this read by replenishing the Collagen? Even MicroNeedling could help.

You do look pretty, but to speak to your comment, why is the doc talking a revision after 2 months? I've tried to consult with some other surgeons about a revision - I'm 3 years out - and some of them will not even talk to me, they say it's too soon. I don't think you should have any wrinkles in the neck area based on the nature of the incision and, well, gosh, just by definition for this type of surgery.

I had the same op in October 2017, wasn't really happy with the results looked very similar to yours. Just had a revision at no charge 2 weeks ago, very glad I did very very happy with the he results now.

Hi cerick52, I would love to see your before and after pictures. Who did you surgery and is he the same doctor who did the revision?
July 13, 2018
He is the same doctor. I Will post the pics on here but will only keep them up a couple of days as I don't want my face all over the Internet.

Just posted the pics, I am 66 years old. My doctor is here in Arizona husband and wife team, can’t praise them enough, so caring. Also did my TT arm lift and just recently my left breast reconstruction after a bout with BC. Did my neck revision and fat graft while I was under for the breast.

After i had my face/neck lift I told the plastic surgeon that i wasn't happy that my neck because it had lumps from the procedure. He looked at me like i had two heads.... i also complained that the fat he injected into my thin lips got absorbed into my body and were back to square one just after 2 months. ..He insulted me and said that they look bigger than what they were before.. poor thing obviously needs to see an eye doctor because it was obvious that they shrunk back to what they were before.
As for the laser resurfacing ps.. my lines did go away somewhat but he should have told me beforehand that they could still be seen close up..He told me they looked fine. OK who knew?
it's funny how they develop an attitude.
As for your neck I can't see it up close but if you have lumpy areas you may want to consider rubbing them with your fingertips outwards towards your ears and with your head facing the ceiling.. while holding your neck taut by grimmacing at your mouth.
There are also youtube sites you can go to to do other neck exercises.. but I suggest that before you do those exercises that you go facial exercises also.. because they go hand in hand with your neck. also only do them a coupe of time a week.. to give your neck a chance to spring back from the exercising. i especailly like the videos that Abigail James puts out. Just don't forget to use to use extra light olive oil on your face and neck before your exercizes.
Hope i have been of some help.
