An update on my breast reduction recovery

WORTH IT
The first week and a half after my surgery I stayed with my mum as I live with my boyfriend but he works away in the week and also our bedroom wasnt quite finished- just needed the carpets down and I did not want to risk being in a dusty room and getting an infection. So the first week I was quite stiff and couldn't relax my shoulders down. I was more sore than anything. I stayed on the high strength co-codamol and ibuprofen I was prescribed for about 3 days and could not continue on it due to how "out of it" it made me feel. I rang the hospital and they told me it's more than likely the co-codamol. I brought over the counter co-codamol and took that alongside 200mg strength ibuprofen. I felt great and more myself. There was only a few times where I would get sharp "pulling" pains in my right breast when I moved. After about a week I stopped the co-codamol and just took low strength ibuprofen and low strength paracetamol. My mum had to help me for about a week to wash my hair in the shower and also to get the gauze into my bra. (I just didn't have enough hands) she's been a huge help! Before I went home I made sure I could do all of that for myself. I went home on the Friday and had basically zero pain except for the odd niggling "pulling" sensation once every now and then. I went to the local pub for a drink with my boyfriend and his friends as it was his birthday weekend and I was no longer on strong medication. I woke up on the Saturday morning and really struggled to get out of bed because that "pulling sensation" had got worse. Eventually it went off. We went to tesco shopping- making sure i didn't do any of the lifting. Sunday morning I woke up the same- again eventually it went off, took a shower, went to bed that night. Woke up Monday morning in pain with the "pulling" on my right breast. This time my boyfriend was away and would be for the week. The pain comes and goes but it Is very regular now. I'm scared to do basic things which I could do a fee days after the surgery. I feel I have gone backwards! I get emotional and cry a lot because I was so close to being able to drive my car and get back to normal and now I keep getting held back by this pain!

My mum came to see me yesterday as I couldn't even get to have a shower because the pain wouldn't let up. She helped me and saw that it looked like I had a yellow/green puss coming from an incision on my left breast. (This is not the one that has been giving me pain, Infact it felt perfect) it was only a very small amount, but I decided to call the hospital. They were very good and got me in to see my surgeon within an hour! The surgeon said from what he could see it didn't look infected but he said from what my mum saw he would prescribe me antibiotics anyway. I told him that it is my right breast that is really hurting me. He told me the "pulling" sensation is normal. It is actually because the stitches under the skin are sewn to muscle. So every time I move that certain muscle it feels like a tug! At least I know this is normal now! I just hope it goes away soon! Except for yesterday going to the hospital with my mum, I had not been out the house for 4 days, not even to hang the washing out because I couldn't bare to do that! I just hope I get back on track soon! Has anyone else had this "tugging" feeling?

Hi I have not yet had the surgery so I don't have advice for you but just wanted to say that your results are looking very good! Congratulations and hang in there!
Thanks zandrina! I've had a better day today. I havnt had so much pain. I even drove my car for the first time! When is your surgery!?
Hi Olivia, firstly well done on your BR. And I think they look really good by the way. I'm 10 days post op and yes I'm finding every time I try to do something I'm in pain and have the tugs. And I'm not doing anything stupid either. Mornings are the worst as you may find yourself so I have breakfast in bed with 2 paracetamol and 2 ibruprofen and rest for half hour before I start to get up on my feet. I do the same just before bed as I suffer terrible back ache with the way we have to sleep. Before I had the op I had actually thought I could have returned to work next week but now know better. Didn't really think I'd be in this much discomfort. Anyway good luck. Take it easy and take as much help as you get offered. Xx.
Hi Olivia.. Sorry to hear your experiencing some pain. What your describing sounds perfectly normal healing procedure. I had the tugging pulling feeling at about 14-20 day period too. Same as you I mentioned it to the surgeon and he said it was the healing process. I still get pain now and again, I get like electric shocks going through mine sometimes, I could be sat watching TV and wham there it is. Fortunately it doesn't last long. I'm a bit obsessed at the minute that mine have grown again, think its in my head as my hubby says there the same. I'm seeing the surgeon on the 6th May for a check up so gonna ask him what he thinks. Hope you feel better soon and your pain calms down x

Pre op pic

Here is the pre op picture! I have put this off as I am so embarrassed. However they are not my boobs anymore! So here goes. As you can see the right breast is a lot bigger than the left! This is also a major reason I wanted the surgery. The surgeon took nearly double the Gms off the right compared to the left!
