Alarplasty: Narrowing the Nose Wings/Nostrils

MISALIGNED Incision!

I'm really disappointed. So the left alar is mostly fine; the scarring is still visible (especially when I smile), but it's mostly healed okay.

But the surgeon misaligned the right alar when he stitched it back together so it's healed with a gap between the alar and its base! It's very visible and makes me so sad.

Like anyone else, I wanted invisible scars but knew that might not be possible, so I accepted that there might be some scarring afterwards. But I really didn't expect it to be this bad and have a misaligned alar.

I'm still happy to have done the surgery because it made a huge difference to my nose and face shape - I feel a lot prettier with smaller nostrils! But I'm so discontent with the surgeon I went to. I would not recommend that clinic to anyone.

This is a review for Naravee Clinic, NOT RATTINAN CLINIC, I made a mistake in writing in the provider name and can't edit it. Overall, this clinic treated me very well. They were quick to respond to my questions and tried to make me comfortable. That being said, I don't think they did a good job. When stitching my right alar to its base, the surgeon misaligned the incision so now I have a gap between the alar and its base (see pictures). And when I brought this issue up to them, all they said was to keep using the medication they prescribed and it'd go away (it's been a year and the gap is still there). I also spoke to another surgeon who said they shouldn't have stitched it on the outside, but rather done the stitches inside the nostril to hide them (I'm not certain this is how alarplasties are normally done, not an expert!).

I honestly can’t see what you are talking about but I’m sure that you see it very clearly. Have you tried C02 laser or anything for scarring?
Aww, that makes me feel better. It's on my right alar, basically a gap (as wide as a fingernail) between the alar and its base. But I haven't heard of Co2 lasering, I'll check it out, thanks!
Your nose healed nice it seems. I’m having the same issue with my alarplasty n wanted to know if it looks better in person now? Like I have a sort of a gap & slight misalignment + tiny hole. I’m 3 months post surgery.. will the hole fill or should I get it stitched or sth..
Thanks! Honestly, mine looks worse in person :( especially when I smile - the scarring is visible even in pictures. The misaligned side is visible when my face is relaxed and when I'm smiling, you can see my skin pulling at the scar and the misaligned edges even become a little jagged.

I also had a tiny hole post-surgery - it surprisingly was filled up! But it left a visible scar that hasn't gone away even 1.5 years later.
Hey! So sorry to see what you went through and sadly I can relate bcz I have the exact same problem after my alarplasty. Can you tell me if the gap between the ala and alarbase got thinner or disappeared? Mine is so so obvious I feel. 10 months post op now and I often thought about getting it sutured again but then there’s misalignment too. I hate it bcz if I knew I’d get another insecurity I might’ve been more careful. Pls update me.,
The gap did not get thinner for me, but the skin did flatten out just a little bit around the scar. That might be because I used retinoids around the area for a year or so.

However, the gap for me is still very visible and you can see it when I smile.

Oh boy, does the scarring look bad.

Left alar: this one feels fully attached to the base and has almost full feeling back. A little bumpy and red but I'm not very worried.

Right alar: this one feels only partially attached to the base and still is numb in multiple places. Scarring is uneven, bumpy, red, and has HOLES. I'm most worried that the holes won't get filled in and I'll have holes where the incision is. Also, there's a spot here that sometimes bleeds if I open my mouth too widely or clean the area. I'm really worried!

I've been putting silicone sheets (cut in a curved shape) over my alars every night to smooth out the scars. I use silicone gel in the day and put sunscreen over that, but the silicone gel doesn't ever really dry.

Day Nine Pictures

Here are some pictures from day nine; the clinic took some pics of my nose from different angles.

Looks a lot worse here than it does now. Here you can see the hole in my left alar and the weird detached bit on my right. Kinda freaked me out the first time I saw it now. But its getting better now!

Hey girl! What is the purpose of the incision up the sides of the nose? I don’t know much about nose jobs but I am interested in getting one. Thanks for sharing your journey!
