Sliding Genioplasty for Recessed and Long Chin

UPDATED FROM Miamiamiax3

1 month + 1 week update

WORTH IT
I have chin dimpling when I close my mouth now, which I didn't have before. That kind of sucks, and I'm not exactly sure how or why it happened, as my interlabial gap is smaller than before.

I still don't know what's causing the lip incompetence. But either way, I don't think I'll be getting another genioplasty anytime soon.

I hear it takes awhile to see the final results. Do you have any pictures you can post?

This review is written about 3 weeks post op.
I had a sliding genioplasty because of my receeded chin, which I was very self-conscious about, and lip incompetence. I was hoping it would fix both.
I first met with a maxillofacial plastic surgeon, then an oral surgeon experienced in doing sg's. Together they both decided to vertically reduce my chin (I'm not sure by how much) and move it forward 6mm.
After the surgery and an hour at the hospital I went home with a bleeding mouth and bandages across my chin.
I was never in much pain, because of the painkillers. The bleeding stopped after a day and within a few days I regained completely normal lip sensation (yay!). I don't think I've ever been so grateful just to feel my lip honestly.
For about a week I slept in a partly upright position, to help with the swelling. Still, on day 4 when I took off the bandages, I had a huge shock. "Huge" being my jaw, which was really swollen and made me look very bad. My lower lip was also thinner, some of which was accentuated by my huge jaw and some that would come back after the swelling went by. In about two weeks it did. I looked normal again.
Final results:
-my lower lip is about 1/4-1/3 thinner
I'm happy about this, as it used to be way too large and stick out before my top lip from side view. Now they stick out about the same.
-my chin is more prominent, also from the front
I can see how it could bother some to have a bigger chin seen from the front, as it can look masculine, but I'm okay with it. It doesn't look narrow or long though, possibly because of the vertical reduction?
From profile view my chin went from far back to just a bit recessed. It's much better than before.
-my lip incompetence is improved, but not completely fixed
Final thoughts
I'm overall happy with the procedure, and I'd do it again. I feel much less self-conscious about my chin now, which is a huge relief. I also didn't have any complications. As far as nerve damage go, part of my chin still feels tingly and very sensitive to cold, but even if it doesn't solve over time it won't really bother me much.
I do sometimes play with the idea of having had it moved to 10mm instead of 6mm. If it had fixed my lip incompetence completely, that would have been nice. My chin is also still a bit recessed now, but much less so than before.
Besides, it's probably better to settle for a bit too short than too much, as I feel happy with the results I have now. Even if it isn't "perfect", it's much better than it was before.

This was really helpful! I too want this surgery but I'm worried about my bottom lip may get thin
can you please post some pics or send by private msg?
This is really helpful. Did you still have a lot of swelling at 3 weeks? I'm at 3 weeks and my chin looks huge! I would still need swelling to go down by 5mm to get my desired result. How was your journey with swelling?
