WORTH IT$1,300
Recently underwent labiaplasty covered by insurance. Went to a doctor located in Norman Oklahoma, Dr. Lisa Waterman. My experience was great from beginning to end. I got the trim method as my labia was discolored on the edges and I wanted better coloring as well as a reduction in size. She specializes in this surgery and went to Beverly Hills to train with the doctors that came up with this surgical technique. She's a very sharp and confident doctor. She took time with me at every appointment (i went for two consults because I'm very concerned with making the right decision). She showed me a book of before and after pictures and was very honest. I went for my follow-up consultation and am healing well and pain is subsiding.

The surgery is 1 hour, but she know I was concerned about being conservative and leaving some labia. She actually trimmed, then looked and decided to take extra time to trim a slight amount more to make sure to achieve the look I described. I appreciate her commitment to help women feel better about themselves.

Hello what insurance do you have or what did you tell your insurance company in order to get the coverage please and thank you .
February 10, 2017
I didn't tell my insurance anything, my doctor got the approval. It all depends on how they file it. Plastic surgeons will never accept insurance. The urologist/obgyn doctors will a lot of times file it as a medical procedure.

I, too, am interested in knowing what insurance you have. I have been considering this procedure for some time, but the out of pocket expenses are shocking (I'm located in Houston). Is the $1300 your portion after insurance? If so, what was her fee for the procedure? I appreciate the response :)

I have bcbs. The 1300 was my portion. For both the hospital, anaesthesia, and Dr fee.

How did t get covered by insurance? I'm wanting so badly to get it done. It's always been in the way and preventing me from wearing certaint things and riding a bike is not the most comfortable thing...

So basically it's more dependent on the doctor you choose. I had an obgyn not a plastic surgeon. They file it as health problem due to the discomfort and increased infection risk. I met with several doctors and only the urologists and obgyns would file for insurance. I have bcbs. Hope this helps!

How long did this process take? Did you have to get it documented only one time? Did only present this issue one time

You mean in order to get the surgery scheduled and insurance verified?

Post Surgery Notes

Ae611
Day 1-4: not much pain, stayed on pain medicine and iced consistently throughout the day and night. Decent amount of drainage from incisions.

Day 5-10: Some itching, soreness got worse each day. Returned to work day 7, donut for sitting and 800 mg Motrin is a must. Still swollen a good deal and drainage of blood and fluid in small amounts still occurring. Icing as much as possible when home.

Day 11-12: Still discomfort. Started progesterone cream one time per day. Pain is much better and drainage from incisions has also diminished. Still pretty swollen. Still icing multiple times per day.

It looks great already! Question-- I'll be getting this done soon and I'm a hairdresser so I stand and walk around all day at work, I'm also getting breast aug done separately so I was thinking of doing them within 3-4 days of each other so I can utilize the 2 weeks off work best I can. I was thinking of doing this surgery first. Would you say you with your experience that 1- you'd be able to handle a second surgery a few days later , and 2- you'd be able to stand and walk normally at the 2 week mark (roughly) ? Thanks!

Well, that's all subjective. I have had an augmentation which I didn't think was all that bad. That was more like severe post workout soreness. You will need to be spraying after using the restroom and getting up and down for ice regularly which will require arm movement. I would say it's doable, but it won't be fun. The good thing is, as you said, time off from work would be minimized. Yeah my two week mark was three days ago and I have been carrying on normal activities. I really think that icing is key to keeping the pain, swelling, and itching to a minimum. Good luck!!

Awesome, Thanks for answering! I can't wait. I'm prepared for torture just excited for the final outcome.

Hi how did you get this covered by insurance ?

How did your insurance pay for this when plastic surgery is usually seen as an elective procedure
February 10, 2017
That is dependent on how the doctor files the procedure. There is a category that encompasses this procedure as medically necessary.
January 2, 2017
Whether this is covered our not is dependent on how the doctor handles it. From my research, the plastic surgeons don't accept insurance because they deem it cosmetic. The obgyn doctors in a lot of cases file this as medical necessity. I was willing to pay for the procedure and went to 7 different doctors in my area that did this procedure 4 plastic surgeons and 3 obgyn and picked the one that made the best impression as well as had the most experience. I think it's very important to not look at only using plastic surgeons because my Dr had one in her book of before and after pics that a board certified plastic surgeon mutilated and came to her for help. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more info!

So far so good...

Ae611
So far things have been good. I'm still more swollen on one side and the other side is going down significantly. I was given some estrogen cream at my two week to apply nightly which has caused increased itching for some reason. I have put together some photos to help other women see the healing process and better before pictures for comparison.
